One of my fave eps this season. Great watching it with you. The point you made about Barbara explaining more fully the why when it comes to certain things, I gotta stand with her when it comes to Janine. Janine has shown time and time again in previous episodes that she's just gonna do what she wants to do all the time and won't listen lol. She's a little hard headed. Heart's in the right place, but sometimes as a grown woman and a rookie, you shouldn't need to explain everything. Like Barbara said, I've been here for 20 yrs, there's nothing wrong with the juice. Let's just stick with it. New projects = new problems. So she did explain. Janine wanted to fix that light bulb even when they told her not to. Janine was being warned about Courtney, the difficult student, but then didn't wanna listen. Barbara told her she wanted to get items on her wish list her way, Janine had to intervene again. Everyone was okay being a work family, Janine wanted to bribe them with chicken to get them to be a 'family'. I think Janine has proven that she just doesn't listen and creates all these problems for herself lol.
Barbara is a veteran but not the boss, she could tell the younger teachers what are the stakes but she also allows them to try their own way. I guess that's the way to do it when you're older yet still at the same level as the young ones.
im over a year late into watching but im still going to comment. i stand with barbara. she is a kindergarten teacher not a 2nd grade teachers mentor. she shouldnt have to teach them anything or even explain her whys once shes set a boundary, they should just respect it. if she said "stop using my kids bathroom" they shouldve stopped. even if she didnt give a why, its obvious. 5 year olds are needy and dont think things through and very obviously might wait till its in emergency to finally use the bathroom so they should have the right to their bathroom. they didnt drink the juices so why should they suffer the consequences. the bathrooms at abbott have also always been a problem so why they didnt think something could happen to them makes zero sense. they need to grow up. some of this was common sense and not teacher experience.
Always love seeing new comments pop up on older videos! Thanks for watching with us. Just rewatched the reaction and I hear where you're coming from. It's not her job to help other teachers understand. But she's also not an independent contractor. She's a part of the faculty -- and they're all trying to do what's best for the students. From that perspective alone, they're a team -- even if they have different responsibilities. On the whole, I agree with your point: if a boundary is set, respect it. But this was a unique circumstance that negatively impacted students. Everyone should be trying to find a solution at that point. I won't go as far as to say the teachers/students are entitled to that bathroom because it's the closest -- no waaay. But to have such a hard line (without context or explanation) in this situation, is a bit much for me. I'm glad they ended it the way they did with a bit of give on both sides though.
