- In this episode I built a vehicle that uses pure electric power to generate insane acceleration. Gas engines are great and everything but electric power is clearly superior.

Yeah, I keep using combos because the available gear ratios are too close. Having one electric gives the car serious grunt on the low end until the gas engines are spooled up.

seeing him skip the tutorials is maddening, especially because 20 seconds later he says "this makes no sense" and it was explained perfectly in the tutorial.
To be honest, the parts are so cheap that I think watching them is more hassle than the part is worth in currency, compared to just doing one race and earning enough to buy any part multiple times over.
Can you also tell him to change the graphics settings to Medium?
The image quality just stays the same but it removes all these annoying flashes on metal parts.

For a vehicle with no transmission you are correct that the power curve of the electric motors is ideal, but once you add gear shifting you want your peak power to be at the top of the RPMs for each gear, which is what the gas engines do better.

And using a small electric motor or two to act as starter motors would make the need for low gearing a lot less, allowing for more efficient transmission setups.
In the game the electric motors only have more torque than gas engines in the low rpm’s(with Kan’s gear ratio in this video, near 30 kph is where the torque curve of the tier 1 engine has superior torque compared to an tier 2 electric)
From how Kan raced in this video he never really used the low rpm higher torque (which can be seen in the bottom right corner during the races in this video where the white line remained in the right most 2/3 of the torque curve(the range of the curve where gas engines have higher torque compared to electric on a 1 yo 1 ratio))
Meaning that Kan doesn’t need the better low rpm torque of the electric as the rpm never drops that low and even in a single gear ratio setup like in this video the torque curve of the engines would have provided around 10-20%increase(something like that) in torque(acceleration = more time at higher speeds not to mention the max rpm stretching further)
Also from other YT research that I have done on the game it also seems as though a bunch of stacked tier 2 gas engines might even yield better performance than the use of tier 4 gas engines in terms of size and maybe even power(however I haven’t actually tried comparing any of those things myself and I think it really just might be the smaller engines more convenient size as compared to the larger tier 4 ones)
I myself also found myself doing the campaign with only electric engines, however this is because I knew that they were technically not as good as the gas engines in the game and would provide more of a challenge and I wanted more challenge
I also believe that Kan built an awesome electric build in this video which in many ways was OP in comparison to the handling of my electric builds(though I also believe that I severely lack in skill in the driving department at least after watching how Kan just crushes the skill portions and just about never fails a turn :)
After beating the last monarch a chest containing the best electric engine becomes available. You can also get the large versions of the wheels in chests.

15:24 that acceleration race is where you want you car to have a higher top speed. But all electric can probably do it without gear shifting.
But you need to reach this high speed, so acceleration is important. You can have a car that has 1000mp/h and takes a year to reach it :P
best way is hybrid, I did two of the best gas engines through gearbox and two electric engines connected directly to wheels for low speed acceleration
The electric engines will majorly limit your top speed doing it that way

@@thetruetri5106 they will turn off and become dead weights on your vehicle. Electrics are not good option for top tier performance because they are too fuckin heavy and give less power than smaller combustion engines.

@@thetruetri5106 People seem to underestimate the importance of weight and size when design the cars.
Heavier vehicles will need more power to accelerate, will take longer distances to break and will lose grip more often on tight corners. If your center mass is too tall your are more likely to roll and if its not centered longitudinally, your car will have uneven cornering.
If you make your car too tall or too wide you will increase air drag which massively reduces acceleration and top speed.

Chasing records can be kinda fun when they haven't been flooded by insanity yet. I've been doing Windmill Castle. Currently #1 in D and B classes and #14 overall. Its a wacky and frustrating course that really benefits from a specially designed vehicle.

kAN, I'd love to see how you create transmission. I'm having so many problems with figuring out the building of such a thing, and I've always looked to you for guidance when I get into those situations

something very important a short wheelbase will make you steer really fast
4 wheel steering will as well, but can be twitchy and extremely unstable at times.

To beat the campaign you just need small short vehicle with some down force, awd/rwd, 80-ish hp, 2-3 gears and primarily gas engines
you can use more than 1 gear shifter to get more gears.
also yeah stepper motor works like a scrap controller where you can set a desired angle.
recommend doing part intro after you win the new stuff. this way you get one for free.
A shifter will allow you to accelerate faster (you are a bit slow) and reach higher speeds. It's worth it. Trust me. Even if you just have 2 gears you wont go back.

@@lees4416 You're miscalculating in that there's actually 4 combinations. Let's just say 1 means the shifters "in" and 2 is it being "out". The combos are 1:1, 1:2, 2:1, and 2:2. Even though by default one of those is always engaged, it's technically a 4-speed as that would be considered gear 1.
Sure, but it'd take up an unholy amount of room. It's difficult to get a system like that to work without causing gear interference. So either you have that axis-9 to make room for every gear to have adequate space and redundancy to work for every other gear, or you can at best get only a 3-speed on a compact scale. You're not wrong, it's just that for the purposes of this game, it's difficult to do without blowing up the size or over complicating the system.
Every time you beat a monarch, GO EXPLORING. You get some crazy good stuff later on

I wonder if you could use winglets on hinges to gain extra distance on jumps -- downforce when you're accelerating, then flip them to provide lift while you're in the air.
Perhaps even gliders are possible...
The problem with electric is that it doesn't have as high of RPM's which is why you had the huge drop off at the climbing the hill part at the start of the video. Gas has much higher RPM's just not as amazing acceleration. If you combine Gas and Electric you get best of both worlds
The car classes in Screw Drivers are kinda vague. If I recall correctly there is a visual graph showing how vehicles will be defined given their horse power, weight and downforce, but I can't remember how to get to it... Playing the secondary campaign mode is a great way to familiarize yourself with these classes, as it requires you to build some funky power train + weight + downforce combinations.
From what I've observed this far:
E class - Pretty much anything with a terrible top speed (top speed below 100kmh?)
A class - Light vehicles (below 2000kg?) with high top speed (above 100kmh?) and moderate downforce (below 1.0?)
S class - A class but downforce above 1.0
C class - Heavy vehicles (above 2000kg?)
Take these numbers with a grain of salt tho. They come from me evolving a car during the second campaign, so it may be horsepower instead of top speed and, for example, minimum weight for C class may change depending on the other factors.
Either way, if ur looking for a fun class to drive in, C class is probably a good point to aim. Heavy vehicles make them quite challenging to drive so it's likely not as dependent on car quality.
Vehicle always wants to turn around of its center of mass. If that point is too close to vehicle's front or rear axle, it will have hard times to turn. :) (little note)
You would hate real power curves, most times they are not so flat
That straight race, thats where we need a gear box in electric vehicle, lets say the first gear is the 1:1 ratio, and the next gear is a higher ratio for more speed, coz all that torque at higher end is just useless

There is one chest towards the end I believe you need a helicopter or specialized climbing vehicle to get to... that is annoying me. I suck at the driving part but I managed to get through the full career anyway.
I may have build a car with 12 of the best and 4 of the second best electric engines and I found no way to make it controllable.
Adding more motors is a stupid way to "improve" your vehicle, specially electric motors because you eventually reach a point that the drawback of the weight you add is bigger than the pros of extra power.
Weight have a very big impact on acceleration, if you want to have a car with high horsepower, do it with combustion only, combustion engines have way better Power to Weight ratio than electrics.
Weight also affects breaking and cornering, heavy cars will have a harder time breaking and will understeer more often, specially with FWD or AWD.
The biggest advantage you can get from electric engines is simplifying your powertrain since you won't have to use too much brainpower design efficient gearboxes.
Multiple modern electric cars have gears, often just 2 but still has gears
I'm really enjoying this series, myself. This game has a great mix of complete building freedom and good driving mechanics. A lot of games are either a bit off in the physics (say, KSP's ground vehicles) or don't have much customisation (like just changing engine power and grip, maybe)
10:00 Nah, totally disagree. You only need offroad suspension to drive off-road. Street suspension would be better here, 'cause even if you don't drive on asphalt, the road is flat, with no potholes or bumps.

BTW your understeer is caused by your suspension being far too soft in the rear causing weigh transfer and lowering the front tires friction. Furthermore it's not just your rear but all of your suspension isn't setup for turning at speed. Load shifting would only add weigh making the problem & overall performance worse.

It's funny, but in the game it's the electric motors that suck. And gas engines show maximum characteristics to achieve better acceleration and maximum speed.
Am I wrong in that it seems like the game is ok with different motors being at different gear ratios at the same time? That would allow you to have high torque at different ratios without changing gears since you can basically add as many motors as you want.
Maybe you could try up gearing just the gas engines to give you a bit more top end, while the electric ones are there for acceleration

Add downforce and maybe double the tires. This will help grip and acceleration. I would do gear shifts... one after the other. Also do the tutorial as you get some parts for free. And some EV do have gears.

i finished this career mode in about 99% on first standard suspension and small dirt wheels, the rest felt more like an extra stuff.
If u ever built something in this game, please don't cut it out.

love the vids man, as a suggestion, try making a car that shift from electric to gas. Like this you should have low end torque and high end power.
I have tried chasing the top spot in the last monarch race in s+ class. It is hard, I got to 10th.
Use hybrid system such that there is 3 speed electric power 1st < 1:1 2nd = 1:1 3rd >1:1 directly power ice output then 3 speed at their combined output such that 1st = 1:1 2nd > 1st and 3rd > 2nd here at every ice gear their is electric power to pickup lower end of the gear this will be an amazing system to see
the one thing I really really wish they implemented is the ability of turning off depth of field

what I find works best is using gas engines on a 1:1 ratio with electric engines geared for top speed. What this does is basically flip the games intentions where the gas engines provide smooth, strong mid-range power while the electric engines give a solid top end and clear top speed. mid-range acceleration is extremely important in this game's physics engine as it helps maintain speed in a corner, which is where a lot of time can be made up against the AI's and monarchs. ofc the ratios should be adjusted relative to your tier, the blaze 1000 won't need to be 1:1 like the igncores would
After completing the campaign you should look on the workshop and try out some cars
I agree that pursuing records on C or B class is more interesting, above that things get too crazy. Also interested in seeing your solutions for transmission! I'm struggling myself to create something efficient with 4 and 5 gears

You really should just keep your throttle full and use handbrake to modulate your speed. That will solve the understeering too.
I wish the game would give you challenges to make you build better vehicles (not like the tech-tree). Because you can just Bronze everything, and get everything.

Sorry Kan, but the car class rating system does not work in its current iteration.
I built a 4tonne truck with 7 motors, and it still gave the same sort of class rating as literally anything else I build
The peg connectors and spoilers have 0 aerodynamic resistance but still block areo points

I would like you to watch the tutorials for the parts lol. You keep missing fundamentals that you then spend 30 minutes trying to figure out, when it's explained in about 10 seconds in the tutorials. Also you get free parts from the tutorials.
Also the road suspension is better on anything that you're not going over bumps on. that includes dirt, just not 'offroad'.
And you can use steering on all four tires to get tighter lines. Quite hard to control though...

top tier gas is better than top tier elec, similar power at 2/3 the weight if you gear it correct.

The best engine on a weigth vs power ration is the second gas engine it is crazy the speed you can get with that

I managed to make a car with 195 top and 35 acceleration, and great horse power but it is bulky. I think if i use yours as referance i can make a really good one

You definitely want to be able to switch gears even with all electric engines. Btw, is it just me or you never tried scrolling up or down while building with nothing selected?

The small electric engines are better then the small gas engines but the big electric engines are massive and annoying to work with so the big gas engines are the best big engine option
Kan it seems like the bit rate may be a bit low on the video? I know YT compression can cause problems with that but when you are in a menu or not driving it's fine but everything moving everything has lots of compression artifacts. I just watched a few other 1080p videos on this game and it was just yours.

Second gear shift is automatic shift to the good way like bigger gear into smaller gear will increase accelerator one it reach limit then it auto shift smaller gear into bigger gear to getting more speed but I warming you it only chose smallest ratios to 1 or biggest ratios to 1
You need to use the gas engines with better gear ratios to get better top speed that is acutally achievable

kAN, it's probably painful to a lot of us, but if you're going to continue to say, "Yeah, this understeers like crazy. I really need to do X, Y, and/or Z to fix that." and you don't through out the entire video either do it or don't mention it again. I'm not harp'n on you. It's just that after the first time you say it and don't do anything about it it sounds like a complaint. The third time it sounds like an excuse. After that, it's just you yapp'n on about, "I could have gone pro. I was the starter quarterback for my high school team when we took state champions all 3 years and was scouted for Alabama and we won every bowl I played in. I just decided to pursue a different carrier, but I had offers from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns to be their QB's starting my college sophomore year." Like you struggle bus-ing due to your own machinations isn't as fun to watch as it is to see you actually solve the problem. I get it, you like to race. But seeing you problem solve is also entertaining as you actually do teach some stuff that isn't taught in the classroom.
you just proved that 8 electric engines have more HP than 2 combustion engines. in more high end vehicles i feel pure electric falls off quickly and hybrid is the way to go.
