There are very few singers who make me feel genuinely sad that they passed. Everyone dies. I feel like Robert Palmer was way too young and had many more years of music left in him.
I feel the same way. What tends to get me the most is his interviews. And his 1978 live appearance on the Midnight Special. Awesome live performance of Every Kinda People. Watch him closely, you can see how much he loves to sing. I can listen to this man sing anything. I love his voice.
He didn’t need to rely on choreographed dance moves, he just has charisma and a voice, and a passion for his work. I like this arrangement better than Gap Band and I love theirs.
@@magra453the Gap Band original is special, but this comes a very close second IMHO. He certainly put his own brand on it and it worked in different ways to Charlie Wilson’s OG version
Sorely missed, very clean cut, a complete gentleman always impeccably dressed, superb artist, put out his heart on each stage, I wonder what his favorite cologne was? Very well loved every where

@@ColtraneTaylor Nothing to do with Palmer himself. Anyone who knows anything knows Palmer was awesome in his casual days as much as his formal dress days. The point is most of today's performers are classless slobs.
Palmer was a semi regular on Letterman, this was at least his 2nd appearance that year (1988, he was on just before his Heavy Nova Tour started, and here just after it ended, at least for the year as it resumed over seas in 1989). In fact, Letterman was one the last TV appearances Palmer made in the US, during the summer of 1999 (promoting his R&B album, performing the single "True Love").
He did a great job of the Gap Bands classit hit. Also did a awesome job of Marvin Gaye's hit, Mercy Mercy Me and I want you. He was just a great singer not to mention he looked so good especially during the 80's when everyone had the big hair and god awful clothes; he had a nice hair cut and wore great suits. A classy guy gone too soon!
Good live performance. This is one of the songs, where I like the original more - at least the album version. Production just sounds more "crisp", if this makes any sense. But I like Robert's voice more.
I like the Gap Band and their major hits. Although there's a revival these days, I know many people, who hated 80s synth-laden funk to guts. For me, this is what I grew up with - both the Gap Band and Robert Palmer. Palmer made quite a list of cover songs. He made some songs his own, by making something new out of it, but most of the songs are very close to the original. I don't think he was jumping on the bandwagon of other people's success, I rather see it as a hommage.
He did plenty of original material too. Robert Palmer was a great vocalist, songwriter and producer with a very eclectic range of musical influences dating back to his childhood in Malta.
The worlds most dangerous band . Paul and the boys could rock. Robert Palmer had some sexy soul. Hall of fame wake up.

God, the sex appeal on this man...love Power Station, too!
I loved Robert Palmer I was fortunate enough to get to see him in concert and I listen to his music every day

Can’t forget !

He always made singing look effortless.
He was such a simple, modest man. Good performer.
Robert Palmer was such a terrific musician. Sadly, there will never be another like him
Music itself is a short lived thing of the past. It's only use was to hypnotize the population with the addition of drugs. It worked.
One of his best songs in my opinion. Looking extremely handsome too - easily THE most desirable man to have walked this earth.
This is not his song though. This is yet another one of his covers that he did. I like RP, but the Gap Band original is better.
@@magra453 one of the few covers I prefer over the original.
It's a cover but better 👌
@@RageTVHTX this get it on some guys have all the luck and respect yourself are better than originals

He did The Gap Band proud.
This man.... I could marry him for his voice alone, Miss you.

'Definitely, ALL OF THE ABOVE, And Also SO SO VERY, VERY SEXY'!! ❤❤❤❤

Heavy Nova is a fantastic album
They sure as hell weren't just going through the motions on that one. Created a new version right there.
RP always brought it when he performed and this was no exception.
He had a great voice. RIP. Robert.
True style loved everything he ever did...way toooo young...
Rest in peace Robert! I loved everything about you!
Classy dressed cleaned cut artists need to come back in vogue.
No they don't. Robert Palmer was great before he had these suits, the suits are not what made him.
He sure scrubbed up well

Keep coming back to this video.......so full of energy....what a voice so full of everything. What a great collaboration. So nice!
For a ‘Letterman walk on ‘ version I love this simple easy performance . Letterman: ‘this looks like fun ! ‘

Classy guy. RIP
One of the legend singer songwriters of our times not like the fake crap that keeps coming from studios nowadays awesome live singing
Man, what a guy.
Just ran across this awesome video. Thanks for posting.
Wil Lee, bassist, must have been born awsome.
Wow! Very rare to see him perform this song live. Also great to see him on Letterman's show. Thank's for the post.
Only one Robert. Rip love you
I really miss him : (
In my opinion one of the best RP's covers, next to "Respect Yourself." Just great.

Very catchy
NO TE PERDONAREMOS NUNCA ..Q' TE HALLAS IDO...GRANDE ENTRE LOS GRANDES...
Maybe someday a record company will put out a decent Palmer box set. EMI has treated him like shit and Island no better.
hopefully his masters weren't lost in the UMG fire back in 2008
Two cool dudes!
Is that back-up singer's (the lady) microphone on? Will Lee's bass solo is killer.
Jamming
kewl style,,

This performance here seems a little stiff but, this guy was a PERFORMER! !! rest in peace brother ROBERT ♡

Ain’t many people can do a Gap Band cover as good as the original, but RP was definitely one. Gone too soon

I get up all early so I can walk the hood looking for lovers .
The music reflects the slug thethe singer is going through due to the wrong descions.

He has a very bizarre accent. I always expected him to speak with more of a Cockney-esque brogue.
He was from Batley, West Yorkshire, that's why. Not too far from Leeds
No Cockney Londoner. He was a mix of Yorkshire, Malta posh English and a tad transatlantic.
Not as bizarre as David Letterman's accent to be fair.....Robert Parlmar.... a preformer (!)
John F. Kennedy's love child.
Bull, don't say crap like that.
