I think this song is about coming to terms that there is a God, that he didn't believe in Him but there is something deeper wanting more. That even when we don't want to believe we all have that inside of us to believe and at the we end up praying to Him. Beautiful song.

He saw how tragic it was and after realizing what was happening to the rest of the world quoted from the lyrics "I lift up my head and the world is on fire", instead of writing broken hearted love songs, he'll write a prayer for those in need even if he doesn't believe in God. Also, he doesn't believe in Him because the church shunned him for being gay. He is not welcome in any religious organization because his sexuality is an abomination according to the Bible.

As a Christian, who believes homosexuality is wrong, but who doesn't judge because I, too am a sinner, I think this song is something any Christian should love to hear. He's captured that "rock bottom" moment that many of us must hit before we look up to God and begin our life on His terms. He confesses sin... Something we all do at that moment. I don't care if he's gay... That's between him and God and God will straighten him out if he chooses.

Doesnt contradict with
"But (overrules the previous statement) im gonna pray" indicates whats gonna happen in the future.
So basically what it means is that even he thinks that hes not a Christian but in hard time he would still pray to god because Hes such a powerful force that ppl just know he somehow exists. So even atheists with the very least faith, they would seek for help from the Lord in hard time, when anything physical in the world cant or wont help him anymore. When hes alone, everyone has left him but jesus is always there for him.

Am, because he sees the way the world it's right now so, he doesn't see any other way of trying to turn it around so, even if he doesn't believe on him, he's gonna pray, just in case, he exists.
