John passed on April 8, 2022. He was age 97. Prostrate cancer took him.

John continued to fly until age 91, for anyone interested. On August 8th, 2017, John flew his 150 up to Ludington, Michigan -- the last time he flew a plane.
I learned today (08-24-2021) John also used to race stock cars in his younger years. Said he flipped his car twice during those races -- get out of both without a scratch. ( - Norm Rasmussen)

I'm (only) 67 and learning to fly, also in a Cessna 150 and today, watching this wonderful video... I learned the easy way to get into the plane! Thanks so much !!

Good for John ! Take it from me also one who loves to fly a C 150 ( I come into this world in 1940 ) , the C150 is or has to be the easiest and most fun aircraft on earth to fly.
yes, together with its sister ship, the C152, which I trained and got my PPL on!! 😁

I'm watching this video as we get ready to roll into 2019 in another week and see this video was made 6 years ago and can't help but wonder is he still flying or is he flying with the Lord now.
At the age of 88, my Dad, John Scholtens did decide to sell his plane to a friend and continued to fly with him for a few years. Dad is now 95 and doing well, no longer flying but still enjoys each day in his own home. He plants a large vegetable garden each year, plays guitar with his friends each week and maintains a wonderful circle of friends. We all are very blessed to still have him in our lives 💜

John flew his last flight on August 8th, 2017. That would have put him at age 91.

Dang, for some reason i thought the 150 was a tail dragger and the 152 was tri-gear. OH well it's fantastic to see this gentleman is doing what he loves... Hope he is still flying today 8/17/21...
Brought back good memories of Uncle John flying with me, and my ferrying that airplane to GR for him before he had his license. What a blessing to still enjoy and be proficient at flying at 87. Nice job Uncle John! So glad you didn't get into ultralights...
Jonny I think the same thing often… I still remember when he was about to build a trailer to haul his ultralight. Neither my Mom or I were real excited about that prospect. I know you were instrumental in his decision to get a “real” plane. I’m so glad he did. What wonderful times we each had flying with him.

Exactly, quite amazing! I'm just getting into my early 40s and my hope and prayer is to be just like this gentleman, if and when I reach his age!! He is truly an inspiration!
Harry said he needs to take more respect for that prop he's was actually hugging it while pulling it through there could be things like broken wire.I was taught to expect it to fire any time.

John passed at age 97. Went to his funeral yesterday. Believe he said that he flew his last flight at age 88. Someone saw this video I took of him and bought the plane from him. The plane flies ON as far as I know.
