Great video brother. It was nice to see and hear an explanation of price caps and products that fit those price ranges . And also for the new shooters to see a few items that are close to mist have stuff to be competitive. Thank you
Love this video! I really like how you take a position and explain it with price points. I’m studying before buying my first competition precision .22lr rifle.
I use an MTR with a Swampfox 4-14x44 Scope. The Swampfox is basically the Vortex Diamondback Tactical, but with a lower MSRP to keep me within the $1200 range for NRL base class, as well as well under the base class for PRS. So far the set up has worked out great, and I'm able to compete in both.
I've been shooting in a few PRS matches a year now for a few years. I started with a Savage MkII FV-SR which offers a lot of rifle for the money, but have been wanting to step up my game and move up to a better rifle. The CZ 457 platform is a no brainer since it is a solid reliable action and trigger as you mentioned, but because it's also so popular in the sport there are a lot of aftermarket stocks and barrels out there for it. To start off with a 457 i knew i either wanted a Varmint barreled option like the Pro Varmint, Varmint, one of the AT-One version, or the MTR. I would have loved to get the precision trainer MTR with Manners stock but not ready to commit that much money, and theres a string chance i might get a chassis diwn the ready. The crappy part is now thst I've been ready to go to a 457 Varnint or MTR and have the extra bit of money to do so, I haven't been able to find any for the last few months, LOL. Until yesterday that is. I found the MTR version you have in the video in stock finally and ordered it immediately. I think it's one of the best bag for your buck in a factory rifle. The wood stock looks nice and comfy, and you get an upgraded match chamber on the Varmint barrel, and it really isn't much extra over the AT-One or Pro Varmint models. I can't wait to start trying out different ammo to find which one it likes and what type of groups I'm capable of (because I'm sure that for a while this rifle will be way more accurate than I). I think that between a CZ 457 or maybe Bergara B-14R there is no better rifle until you are at the point of investing into a Rim-X or Vudoo.
Great info. I really want a CZ, sadly they are not very left hand friendly with only 1 model. I can't find any great routes to build one regarding a chassis either. No left hand love out there!

I love your video. It is informative and direct with no fluff, so thank you. Was wondering what brand/size scope rings you used? I bought a PDC chassis for mine and will do the 30MOA area 419 base. TIA
Prices have changed. The CZ 457 MTR list for $865.00 so that leaves $635.00 maximum for the scope. Could you revise the scope recommendation due to the price increase in the 457 MTR. Thanks for you help. I hope to shoot PRS production next year.

Yes a hard rig to beat for the price and stay within regulations
For sure
Any experience with how the Arken SH4 Gen2 4-16x compares? At $400 MSRP it would fall into Base/Production class on this rifle in both NRL and PRS.
I have not tried the Arken but i have seen 1 or 2 people running them
I’m getting ready to shoot my first match with a ruger 10/22. If I like it I will be looking for a better rifle but still would like to stay in production class do to budget constraints. If I start with this base setup, if I decide to move to open, will this still be competitive with some up grades are will I pretty much need to go full custom at that point?
Thar combo is no longer base legal. Mtr and the arken ep5 would be legal and still be competitive
This combo in the video isnt legal? How come?
@@anonymous_friend The MSRP has increased in price and no longer falls with in the price range set for NRL or PRS
Back when the cap was 1,050 mine came in at 2 cents under the max
Haha nice
Hello sir,
What cleaning rod and jags do you recommend for my MTR. Anything else I should gather?
I run boretec jags and 1 or 1 1/8" patches
Oh and boretec 22rf proof positive rod
@@PursuitofAccuracy no way, they're 5 minutes down the road from me. Do you use a bore guide?
@@krajus83 i also use their bore guide 🤣🤣
@@PursuitofAccuracy 😂 last question...gunna be a questionable one...what length rod do you have? 😂
Tikka T1X with Argos BTR Gen 2
The tikkas are awesome rifles. I want to get my hands on one soon.
Do they make one not in the plastic stock now?
Thanks for commenting Manuel
@@PursuitofAccuracy The Tikka T1x is now called the Tikka T1x MTR. And, they still sell it only with the plastic stock, which is not so bad if one buys and installs the target handgrip from the Beretta website. I can't tell if the addition of the MTR designation to the name means anything; it still sounds like the same rifle I bought over a year ago.
But, any stock that fits the Tikka T3x models will also fit the Tikka T1x, so there are many stocks out there to fit to your new T1x!
¾ MOA is ¾ moa no matter what the distance.
Have you tried or used the Vortex PST Gen ll 5-25x50 FFP MRAD? thoughts.
I have not. Vortex makes some good stuff but i am completely happy with the Athlons
Where did you get that throw lever?
Anarchy outdoors sells them
@@PursuitofAccuracy weird, I specifically asked them and they said they didn’t. Even sent them measurements after that and they told me that nothing they made fit it.
@@chrispensinger174 They definitely do make one. I have two polymer anarchy outdoor throw levers and an aluminum throw lever on the cronus. Which Athlon do you have?
@@PursuitofAccuracy Gen 2 Helos BTR 2-12 and 4-20. Maybe I got the wrong person. I sent them the link to this video today ha, thanks!
@@chrispensinger174 I will take mine off and get the part number to ya
Shooting mids + and center x.
i just checked CZ USA"s site (1-8-2022) and the CZ 457 Varminter MTR now has an MSRP of $865 which puts this combo $77.49 over the MSRP cap unless they have raised the cap. I just ordered the Athlon
helos gen2 4-20x50, Area 419 rail, and Athlos rings too...😐
That's crazy. Not sure why they would raise the MSRP of it after this long in production.
This gun only leaves $335 left in the tank for optic to meet nrl base rules.
Yeah msrp has changed since I made the video
@@PursuitofAccuracy do you have a recommendation on a scope with an MSRP under $335?
Building the same thing in canada (just can't use an MTR version for production here) Using the Helios gen 2 6-24 as there are no 4-20 available anywhere, same 100moa travel.
Question is should I pair it with a 30 or 50 moa base, courses between 15 and 300 yard range.
Great video. Let's Go Brandon!
Try the arken 6 24 50 sh2. You might never go back to athlon. Seriously
Fast forward to 09-2024, this combo's cap no longer works. Rifle is a grand and the scope is 700 ish.
Yeah got to hate inflation
These rifles are $ 850 msrp as of the end of 2033
Yeah they like to change msrp
Probably uses an Aimbot too. Reported for hacking!
Lmao!
An now you can’t get one… so whatever
Cant get the mtr or the helos?
@@PursuitofAccuracy the rifle.... im about ready to just get the b14r but i really would like the cz...
@@samuelw.3992 yeah finding rimfires is crazy right now. My local shops usually have a few but the mtr are hard to come by
@@PursuitofAccuracy yeah just my luck i guess'
@@samuelw.3992 keep your eye out at local shops, they pop up for sale every now and again
