Great video. A couple possible followup tests: Both rifles using the same scope, to test just the difference between the rifles. Next, the Vudoo with both scopes to test the change in accuracy due to optic quality.
I am a pedestrian shooter. A long time ago, I put a lot of rounds through break barrel air rifles. I own a CZ .22 I purchased more than twenty years ago. I don't even know the model. What I do know is that I went shooting with my nephew. I have a decent scope mounted on it. We were shooting outdoors at 100 yards off a card table and I don't recall what we were sitting on. I was shooting Elay Match ammo. I just had one try with five shots. They drifted in the wind about an inch or so but those five shots could have been covered by a nickel. I have been a CZ fan ever since. Great gun plus great ammo with decent everything else (young man's eyes and hold and grip) and groups get admirably tight. I love that memory.
CZ baby!! Honestly I think a well practiced shooter behind a CZ can definitely hang right there with a voodoo or rim-x all day thanks for the content brother!!
Great Video as usual, Josh. I own (and enjoy) both a near stock Varmint MTR and a full custom Vudoo 360. I'd concur that the Vudoo has the edge in a few ways but not by a factory of 3. It would be interesting to see if the MTR gained that other point if the scopes were swapped.
I was actually at my local gun shop, trying to order a CZ 457 MDT XRS with a 20" Barrel today, only to find that it's not sold in the USA, but is sold in Canada. I could, however, order a MTR, but I decided to wait. Thanks to this video, I'll be going back to the gun shop when it reopens Tuesday to order my CZ MTR, and purchase the MDT chassis separately! Thank you!!
If you plan on going with a custom barrel you might want to consider getting a basic model 457 and save the money. Also I believe the mtr 16” barrel will sit flush with the mdt forearm.
I work a a gun shop and i just ordered a cz 457 “chassis” model with the mdt acc chassis 24’ barrel. These were supposed to release in 2023 and they just became available in the last 2 weeks, limited production of 500 units as well. Two of out of our 7 distributor’s had them … theres only 10 left from one of the largest distributors and in the US. other distributors may have them allocated so they may hold them for their higher volume spending clients. Msrp is 1900 . Currently 34 of them on gun broker, make sure you buy from a user with feedback. If you live in Maine you can come to our shop and we’ll order you one. Or we can ship you one to your ffl
Josh your honesty is above average and so is your shooting. I can say for sure I spent way to much time working when I was your age and should have spent more time enjoying life.
As a side note I have to say that I think far too many people--especially men--become so habituated to work that they continue it obsessively right until the ends of their lives and then regret that it's all over for them and there's no going back.😐
I was really excited for this video! It’s nice to see how good a CZ is compared to the Vudoo. I was on the fence about getting a Vudoo. After watching this, I think I’ll keep rocking my MTR!
Every time I think about upgrading to a 700 Vudoo/RimX, I take the trusty MTR/Midas Tac and a box of SK Rfile Match and hammer steel with it. Never jams, always ejects, shoots ~1-1.5” @ 100yds, etc. But it does take more effort to drive the rear of the rifle since the balance is off…
CZ fan here. The MTR is incredible for the money. A little added weight and balance, with equal scopes. It will be just as good as the high dollar rigs.
Mirrors what I see at my range - plenty of high tech wealthy folks who can buy the best gear to help level the playing field against more experienced shooters, but in competent hands with the right ammo the difference is negligible out to 200 yards. It’s really at the mercy of the human pulling the trigger and the wind. Beyond 200 yards it does seem that the more expensive rifles tend to show a better return on the investment. Since my range maxes out at 200 and I can hit a penny or clear a KYL at that distance with my 457, that’s good enough for me. If I was competing - especially at longer distances I’d probably make the investment just to take the gear excuse away
I don't care how much money you put in a rifle it's hard to beat a cz bro. I have three cz457s and i would shoot with any kind of of a rifle and i would like to think i would do alright. Beagleman
I have the savage markii in the Boyd's at one chassis. Ive been shooting half inch and under at fifty yards with it with sk riffle match. And 1 inch most of the time at a hundred yards. Im sure i could do better if i lot tested. I have not had any trouble with it yet. I know ive shot at least 2000 rounds through it. I have the Bushnell 6 to 18 legend scope on it.
Josh - great video, the only problem is that the 457 MTR is effectively out of stock nationwide. I looked for one for a couple of months, but could not secure one. I ended up getting a Tikka T1X.
Good comparison Josh. I'm a CZ fan so my bias may be showing. For the money, I'd go with the 457 with very good optics and spend the difference on a variety of above average ammo. Thanks for the video!
I would not mind seeing another video where you put the riflescope on the Vudoo on the CZ and the CZ scope on the Vudoo. I wonder if it would make a difference in the outcome. Great video by the way, as usual.
If only some of the production manufacturers would get on the big ole barrel train… Balance and position building seem to be huge keys to the sport and I’m unaware of any production rifle that is easy to get the balance point right on.
The difference in bolt chambering noise between the two guns is outstanding. The voodoo is clearer “slickier”, so to speak. I don’t know if this word exists in english tough 😂😂. Nice video greetings from Brazil
After watching a guy win a prs with the 457, and the one guy..Zane maybe winning nrl22 with a tikka and a 1k scope, I’d say in bench money is going to win, when you put human factor in gun helps but a calm/straight shooter is always going to rise to the top

How about a head to head shootout with Vudoo vs Build at home CZ with Modacam barrel and a good scope? I get the purpose of factory out of the box low dollar vs Vudoo, however I would like to see the other.
My view has always been, can your NRL22 rifle hit the 1/4" on the KYL at 50y consistently? If your answer is yes then your rig is good enough to compete with. Thanks Josh for making that so clear for all to see.
True, its likely the hardest target (moa) we shoot at in competition. The real kicker is people think they need a .25" group gun to do it. To hit it everytime you need a rifle that can shoot .48" groups
Shooters love the “it’s the Indian not the arrow” adage but ignore that the bow needs to be good enough to win. Anything past “good enough” is personal preference limited only by budget. The 457 might not give up much in absolute performance-pure static accuracy-but I bet it’s a lot nicer running every course with a heavy gun that has a perfect trigger, ideal weight distribution, and crystal clear glass. Peace of mind is worth the price of admission.

Kind of bothers me that you rest your left hand on the scope all the time...when shooting for targets not much bigger than the bullet, any kind of mechanical, even thermal, change in the scope tube...
Supposedly the best of the rimfire rifles against a factory rifle with a lesser scope? You proved once again the voodoo is not worth the price. Too bad voodoo is the only simi custom made match rifle we have to choose from! The vodo is only marginally more accurate than the CZ at best. Rifle competition is not unlike most other competition in that money won't buy you a win.
Vudoo is absolutely worth the price once you use one. The mags, the feel of the action, being able to copy your match rifle. CZ’s are nice and to get in “the game” they are great but they are not in the same category. There is more to a rifle besides accuracy. Savages are accurate but they are absolute trash behind that.
I don't know how much money every one else has in their cz but i have a lot in mine zeiss scope modacam barrel timmney trigger 419 rail. I bet i could give that poo poo a run for the money. Not much better equipment anyone could put on a rifle than what i have on mine. Beagleman

@@jdodd06 I would love for him to fly me and my Bergara out so he can show me that his Vudoo is so much better. One caveat. I get to pick which Vudoo he shoots. CZ needs a 24" heavy profile barrel. I had an ATOne with the 24" barrel. It is way too small in diameter - .730". The Varmint is .865". I stuck my Varmint in a CZ chassis and added a Harrells tuner.
Thanks Josh. I liked the comment made by @livinginswva1965 Nothing like great glass !!! Best to the family Chief
