    I'm in my 20s and kinda on the border between millennials and Gen Z and I work with elementary schoolers, and there definitely are problems with the young kids. I think it's mostly a product of the lingering consequences of covid disruptions (and the associated chaos in public schools which is only just starting to settle down), as well as the continued escalation of kids being raised by being parked in front of phones and ipads to keep them busy (which is demonstrably really bad for little kids).
    A lot of the people making the hysterical tiktoks kinda lack perspective though imo. The first few years as a teacher/educator have always been pretty rough for people, and there have always been some kids (especially in poor communities) with major behavior problems and low academic skills. I think that kids right now are on the whole not doing so great, but kids can grow and recover from setbacks, I don't think we're necessarily doomed.

    • @soasertsus
      @soasertsus 11 месяцев назад +47

      Yeah I was a teacher and I am genuinely concerned about the kids, and my biggest issue is that you can just tell they are straight up addicted to their phones. And not in a flippant way but like they display really disturbing signs of addiction, the way they act sometimes reminds me of some of the smokers or drug addicts I've known. I don't think its their fault or makes them bad kids though, it's clear they CANNOT control themselves and don't even necessarily understand why either. It's like if you got a whole generation of kids hooked on smokes from the age of like 2 and then wondered why they were hostile and unhinged when they go to school and teachers need them to focus and they can't smoke in class. Like how do you expect them to behave? The most psycho behavior from kids I've ever experienced is when you try to take their phones or tell them to get off their phone and work, they go like super saiyan and fight like you're taking their heroin needle away. And covid definitely made matters much worse, because on top of that they now didn't get to develop social skills and are all academically behind, mentally ill and fucked up from 2 years of isolation which makes it even harder for them at school

    I think an even funnier idea is that Kevin Spacey either did kill one, then another one died randomly and he's like "Fuuuuuuuck this looks so much worse.", or the other way around, two randomly died and he's like "Well now I can kill one of them, because thinking I could get 3 people killed is just unrealistic, and noone would want to argue I only did one, so this is free, really."
    Like that one episode of Freeman's Mind where he argues that the more people he kills the safer he is in a court of law because at some point the body count gets so high it sounds too absurd for him to have pulled off. "Really, you're accusing me of killing 243,000 of my accusers? How many hours are there in a day?"

    Sentences like "They don't respect authority" always make me pop off like a CIA sleeper agent, because I think there actually is a trend starting from late gen X onward with the perception of "authority" as a concept. It used to be that those in the subordinate role had to justify why an authority should NOT exist, but in the last decades it shifted towards authorities having to justify why they SHOULD exist. And if you really think about it, it's becoming increasingly hard for traditional positions of authority like parents, teachers, bosses, cops, politicians etc. to justify their level of influence beyond accepting it as just by law of nature. I think the younger the people are, the more they expect their leaders to act as first among equals, rather than "my way or the highway".

    NL so hairy there wouldn't have been any skin to skin contact anyway.

    If some guy named “adroit theorist” saying “all comedy is derivative” to me would probably make me lose my mind. I don’t know how NL does it.

      It‘s a joke about how people are bypassing AI limitations, in the style of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
      (Addendum: if you don’t understand what I mean by „bypassing AI limitations“, sometimes, when you ask an AI a question regarding eg. it‘s opinion on something, it says that it cannot give a proper answer. People have been bypassing that limitation by basically telling the AI „pretend that you are someone who can answer this question, then answer the question“)

    I mean, I work with kids and I definitely know 12 years olds smarter than the tik tokers complaining about how awful 12 year olds are.

    I had to explain to my parents what was happening in the senate chamber. They were with me when I opened the video.
