  • Hey plant fam!!! Thank you for coming back to my channel! If you're new here WELCOME! 🌱💕
    Today I'm showing you my journey over the last few weeks battling thrips on my plants. So this is a long one, but I'm taking you along for the ride as I learn how to manage and kill these pests, as well as a few others. So naturally I had to go all out and order predatory bugs to help me win this war! It's not over yet, look out for a more comprehensive part 2 that will be a straight forward "how to" video as opposed to this vlog style as well as updates. ☺
    Hope you enjoy going to war with me fam and that you learn something from it 💕

    I’m battling these little shts also. I’ve got captain jacks concentrate on the way, I Amazon primed that sht immediately. Super bummed. They got to my Philodendron Gloriousum, silver sword, Painted Lady among others...so many of my faves. This video is so helpful. Just know you’re not the only one! We’ve got this!

      It's definitely good to know what to look for. I had remembered what thrips looked like and their erratic flight pattern from seeing other people deal with them. So as soon as I noticed them it was pretty obvious what was going on. The Captain Jacks is definitely my new go to for killing everything! I think it even killed my mealy bugs 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I haven't seen any in weeks!!

But I really like the leaf shine combo too. I don’t use Neem at all. I don’t like it! But you sound so happy! I have used the dead bug on my orchard also amd you wouldn’t even know it! I watched the same video you mentioned from the Liquidirt guy a few weeks ago and actually just treated my plants with his formula a few hours before watching your video! So far the only plant that had a bad reaction is my monstera Peru - the leaves now have black dots on them. Otherwise, my other plants seem ok so far, but it’s only been a few hours. Thanks for showing how thrips look like! I went and sprayed some of my Pothos and Philodendrons with my neem oil solution. I’m hoping the yellowing on them it’s from something else, but who knows. I’ve only used the neem oil once about 2mo ago and burned my Monstera, I didn’t notice the sun was hitting it after I had used the solution! I’m going to order that dead bug as I read it works differently than the neem oil.🐞💚

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  3 года назад +1

      The burning could be coming from the soap you're using too, be careful to only use pure Castille Soap. I made that mistake with a few. And to avoid the sun burning them or them getting tacky I just leave the neem oil on for about a day and then wash it off. It's not great to leave on because it clogs up the plants pores.
      Don't stress the yellowing, that could be anything, usually inconsistent watering or the plants natural process of sacrificing old leaves to make new ones 😊

    I am ordering the Captain Jacks but I’m also going to my parents house tomorrow for a systemic treatment. I have only seen a few questionable larvae on the leaves of one plant and I have sprayed and wiped them twice a day for the last few days since I found them. Hopefully I am on top of it before it starts.
    I hope your plants are super happy, healthy and clean! 🐞🐞🐞🐞

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  Год назад +1

      Thrips have a 2 weeks life cycle. So cleaning and treating on that schedule is sufficient enough. They're not as scary as people make them seem. If you stay on top of it they're not an issue. I use beneficial mites now and I don't have to do any of the work. Captain Jacks isn't really effective anymore, they've started to become resilient to it. So it's good to switch it up. But if you plan to use systemic you don't need anything else. Just please educate yourself first on how to use it and why it's really dangerous. Use gloves and cover your face when using it, these products have been linked to cancer. Treat your soil, plant, and water runoff like the bio hazard that it is and dispose of it properly. Don't put treated plants outdoors either or you'll kill a lot more than thrips.

    • @Lela-plants
      @Lela-plants Год назад

      @@jaclynns.jungle Yes. I read up on it. But thank you for the warning! It does look pretty caustic As they are in pots I didn’t need to apply too much and I watered thoroughly after. It’s good for 6 weeks it says. They are strictly indoor plants as I do not want to deal with outside bugs getting into the soil. 😖
      I want the Jacks in case my more delicate ones show signs of problems later on. I am recovering from fusion of 2 vertebrae in my neck and am still restricted on what I can lift and do, so systemic is much easier for me at the moment; especially with my bird of paradise plants.

    Very educational if i ever have that i will know betyer and i now know what they look like. Sprinkle cinnamon on your soil work i about a inch or 2 it will kill the larve to fungus knats and you will slowly see them dying down. Then sprinkle monthly to refresh it. I get mine for plants at Dollar tree for a dollar i have over 200 plants in less pots cause my succs and cacti are in mini garden containers for space and cause they look better and i have less rot that way.

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  3 года назад +4

      Great question! Since the captain jacks only works if the bug ingests the plant, it's completely safe for the predatory bugs! They don't nibble on the leaves so once it's dry it's completely harmless to anything that lands on it but doesn't eat it. That's why it doesn't work against fungus gnats. I hope that makes sense!! Great question! Might pin this to the top 😊

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  3 года назад +2

      @@glennacrabtree7788 also a solid question. It shouldn't because the bug that eats it will die fairly quickly and I want to believe the predatory bugs instinct would be not to eat a sick or dying bug. 🤔 it's such a small amount and the bugs already digested it so I feel like it shouldn't be a worry. I was more worried about them landing on my sticky traps 🤣

    When you sprayed with Captain Jack's Dead Bug you did that in your bathroom? The directions make it sound like you need to wear a haz mat suit. I'm doing my 3rd spray tonight on my 45 plants. I've already put the Bonide systemic insecticide granulars in the top soil. Removing damaged leaves is heart breaking. I've had plants die but not like this.

    • @jaclynns.jungle

      The systemic is actually the one where you need to cover your face and hands. Deadbug Brew is non-toxic. Systemic can cause cancer, so be careful with using it and don't put those plants outside!!!

    I'm in the middle of washing my 40+ plants in my living room since I discovered thrips last night. Ive got some Capt Jack's Dead Bug from my last thrips trip. It was a new plant in quarantine thank goodness. Im using neem oil this time so I guess I'll have to do several treatments. I'm not sure my calatheas can handle Dead Bug. Can you olease give me your recipe with the castille soap you use to clean your plants. I've always just used water and a rag. Thanks!

    • @jaclynns.jungle
      @jaclynns.jungle  11 месяцев назад +1

      The calathea can handle the captain jacks just fine! Just remember to re-apply every 2 weeks. I also started using beneficial mites to help prevent and keep infestations small. For my spray I mix a tablespoon or so of castille soap with warm water and a bit of isopropyl alcohol. If I'm feeling fancy I'll add in a few drops of neem oil. Don't have a specific formula, I'm Italian so we just eye ball everything 🤣

    Not wanting to be an ass or anything but most houseplants are severely toxic to cats and can kill them if they end up consuming enough, they cause mouth iritation, diarrhea, confusion and respiratory complications, a friend of mines cat literally chewed on a monstera leaf, didn't even eat much and started having seizures and unfortunately passed away before we got her to the vet
    Please please please keep your plants away from your pets, they don't know any different, possibly get them some that they can ear like wheat grass or cat mint so they don't feel the need to chew the toxic ones 💜
