Sorry about all the cussing. 🙃
Oh Pam, so sorry. Gurl, cuss your ass off! My heart is breaking in the 1st few minutes, so wanted to pause video and send you love.
❤️ Did you cuss? 😉
Talk about dries out too fast, I live in the NM desert. One plant needs water every other day. It’s called a Purple Waffle plant. It falls down absolutely flat without water like a wilted iceberg lettuce leaf.
We like it!
@@ironicly__iconic we do!
don't be sorry for cussing.....I cuss non stop fuck lol
The fact that you just said "whatever" and just left that spilled out string of hearts where it was and just moved on is a whole vibe I completely understand and feel often.
SAME 🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼
Walking around and berating yourself for being forgetful, now that is some relatable content!
39 years of being me and I’m over it 😂
RELATABLE CONTENT!😂💯🔥
Hahaha ditto on buying way too many plants, too quickly! Love this vid :D
Too relatable 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you! thank you! thank you!
I've had a pest problem for years and I didn't know what it was...I just thought it was little pieces of spag. moss. But, my plants were suffering and through your special show on RUclips I found out it was thrips, now I know how to handle it, hopefully. You are a fantastic teacher! Thank you so much again your loving admirer.
Louise
I wanted to watch this last week, since I discovered my thrip infestation but I didn't have the time so I saved this video. Finally getting to enjoy you destroying those little pricks while laying in bed and drinking my night tea. Love ya Pam! 😘
Awww thanks for answering my question!! Good advice about easing into plant care. It can def get overwhelming!! Wishing you good luck with the thrips 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And your honesty is refreshing
Pam you are a GOAT in the Planty Social hemispheres. This too shall pass. Thrips included! You’ve got this!
I'm so sorry! After my great thrips war of 18 I was devastated. I was ready to burn them all. I lost 60 plants before I realized what they were and there was nothing on how to care. I'm so glad people share their methods now. I hope you get it under control. Bonide systemic granules and captain jacks made it for me. Captain jacks (from your recommendation a while ago) every 2 weeks and systemic makes the plant toxic. Sending you all the love. You got this!
I can relate to the smiling trying not to cry lol.
love you ❤️
Great video, I really enjoy watching someone thats down to earth and tells it like it is. Thank You
Absolutely enjoyed this and watched the whole thing! That bit about not being able to nail consistency on RUclips really got to me! I keep thinking that since all the advice articles list that as one of their top tips, that it would never work for me because there are weeks when I just can’t. I think you gave me a lot to think about just regarding general neurodiversity and mental health, and why I tie so much of my self-worth to being able to function ‘normally’ when I can’t (and shouldn’t). Lol sorry that’s so long but I just really appreciated this video. Thanks for the great content as always!
Do you know how long I've been searching for a good thrips video? Geez, thank you. Good job. 👍
So glad to help. As an addition to this video, I ended up using systemic insecticide because I couldn’t keep up with the cleaning routine (it’s doable but I’m just too ADHD lol) and that killed them off. Haven’t seen any in months. Don’t give up! It’s possible to win!
Omgggg wuttt I just found your channel and I swear you didn’t even get out your first sentence and I already knew I love your vibes! New subscriber here!!!
Awe Pam! Sending you some encouragement! Wish I could give a hand and help de-bug your plants.❤️
Nice to see you pam. See you in the next. Thanks!
Omg you answered my question! Thank you!
My first time here and I must say I was very entertained and awesome info be blessed keep growing
You are rightfully in distress, but I have learned so much from you, no matter your content. I’m grateful you shared this because I can be prepared for thrip now. I wooly wish I or someone you called a friend that loves pants was available to help.
Dude. This is my second of your videos and I am SO sold. As an a-typical plant parent who is doing my best and often told “if I just tried harder” or “applied myself” I could be better at ________ this was so helpful to hear from you about the 10 hrs vs. 6 hrs. YES! I’m gunna see if you have more videos in this topic! You rock!

Sister, my sister. Come sit by me. 😂 I like to think we just burn 50% brighter and more creative and therefor burn out faster during the day. 🙃✨
Just watching your videos but fell asleep dreamt we went to your place we got along so well you curled up n slept by me we’re just those kindred spirits n I just adore your videos!!! My million reasons don’t include thrips but I’m battling cancer n my four hour days just can’t keep up w my plant room lately!! Hang in there girlie. We’ll make it thru!! Again love your videos sister!!!
Agreed on throwing the plant gleefully and dancing on its grave. Calathea are so beautiful but since all of them are struggling and I'm tired of struggling with them. Onto plants that get what I am giving them and are happy!
OMG! I just found you today as I thrip bastards have decided to visit my home. I just lost it when you said you purchased way too many fucking plants. So true! Your amazing
Hahaha hello welcome to the dive bar of plant tube channels 😂
Thank you for making this. Thrips tore through my collection a few years ago and there was almost no content on how to treat them then. I ended up looking up their life cycle to figure out why I couldn't get rid of them. It was months before I found someone else dealing with them and they told me about Captain Jack's. I lost some of my favorites to them.
Glad to see that P&J doing good! My pothos are pretty resistant to pests! I just spray the leaves off with water every now and then to keep them clean.
Also I'm getting over a bad thrip infestation too! What really helped me was a lot of insecticidal soap every few days and Bonide Houseplant Systemic. Since thrips lay their eggs INSIDE the leaves it kills them! It's safe to use on all kinds of indoor plants. Where as Captain Jack's Deadbug brew says on the label its NOT for indoor use! It's not safe for all indoor plants and can cause harm to them because it's so strong. So please be careful using it. Always read the labels first to make sure it's safe for indoor plants.
Aw, you answered my question! Thank you ✌
When that string of hearts fell and you just moved on...relatable! People tell me often that I’m so chill blah blah but the thing is if I acknowledge it right away, I will def cry and shut down. Another great video even tho the subject matter (thrips) are a diiiick 😹
Happy Early Birthday!
I freaking love your normal, so I Am subscribing.
I foumd thrips for the 1st time ever yesterday. Went to Jacilynns Jungle to see what she said. She had linked ur video so here i am. Thanks for all the info
I’ve had to move to using systemic to eradicate them, just so you have an update! I managed to keep them somewhat fought back with spray and predatory insects but they were relentless. I started using systemic and I’m finally not seeing them anymore. Hopefully you don’t have a large problem and none of this will matter. May the odds be ever in your favor!
❤️for this video.
Out door gardening is just good for the soul. I’m sure your an awesome best friend.
Happy 39th birthday! I'm turning 38 this year, I feel you on the concerts
I have 3 plastic pots and I don’t like them cause it seems to hold moisture too long compared to the terra-cotta and I use the same soil mix and stuff. You’ve got this. You’ll get through this.
THANK YOU so much for doing this video! So nice to see all pretty plants BUT when things turn to shit then what do we DO !!! Someone tell me!!!! Thank you now i am getting a clue. You are not alone and i appreciate this so much. But I am so sorry you are going through this though.
Thank you for the Q&A ♡
Thrips have gone mad this year. I've been getting rid too. 🙄😅💕
Yes i missed you :)
Much love xoxox
Totally agree on the gardening!!! I started my first garden this year and decided to document it and that’s how I began my plant journey here on RUclips!
I planted entirely too much. Entirely too close and got entirely too overwhelmed and didn’t even care about eating anything I grew because I was content with the fact I grew it haha
And weeding a garden?! No ma’am. I’m not the one. Hahaha it was so full of weeds and grass!!
Thanks for sharing 😊
Omfggg and the being disorganized in your brain! Giirllll RELATABLE AFFFF!!!! meeeee hahaha I swear when I’m filming I have to cut out like five minutes of silence because I’m literally sitting there with a blank mind trying to figure out wtf I’m even trying to say haha
Omg and the being tired?!?! YES QUEEN!! and with two kids here. Finding the time to film and the time to nap is a battle! I have to pick and choose which one I want more haha
i feel you .. having exactly the same thrip invasion right now :)
So sorry to hear about the trips! It is such hard work getting ride of pests! Ganbare, as they say in Japanese!
I gasped and died a little inside for you when you dropped the string of hearts 😭😂😭😂😭💔
You're a badass. Keep laughing so you don't cry.
omg i need to roll one up with you, you’re so cool and down to earth i feel like it would be life changing lmao
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Im so sorry lady 💜 Beneficial bugs saved my sanity. I release them every 4-5 weeks to keep the thrips from being able to start a new lifecycle and cause damage. I've been doing it since December and I havent lost anymore plants since then.
Good luck. Take it easy on yourself. Thrips are the tiniest little assassins- and you dont know whats happening until its way too late (*the first time. But then you know, and you get in the habit of actively fighting them and its okay)
OMG!!! I function (…well, not function) the same as you!! Same exact sequence of dire events. Taking an unpaid day off to try and flip this B around! …and to take care of my neglected and spider mite ridden plants 😬
Nooooo... Fuck thrips! They are the worst as they require consistency to beat back. I relate so hard to you walking back and forth looking for the thing that was just in your hand. It's one of the reasons you are one of my comfort youtubers!
watching you randomly grabbing leaves and then also brushing them gave me anxiety 🤣
Thrips cross contaminate extremely easily, avoid touching plants at all cost while they are being treated.
I feel your pain, systemic pesticide is the only thing I’ve found works. Wishing you the best and sending positive thrip killing vibes
Thank you I Am going to hit the store now
I bought a peperomia from a greenhouse I was warned used only natural pesticides. Sure enough, after never having thrips, thrips showed up and I was shocked! But so far only on these. Put the plants in a plastic bag after treating them and check all the time. Thanks for your videos!
google scholar is the website to look up research papers that aren’t bias. love you pam and i hope your okay. dealing with pests is always trash
Awesome video
Thank you!! 🥰 appreciate your time 💚
Hey Pam.. new to your channel and am also from MA!!! 😊
Hey neighbor!!
I’m so sorry, I feel the same when my plants are dying due to pests, I’m debating to put them all in Leca instead of soil.
Today I had a plant with millions of spider mites, I sprayed and wash out the plant outside with the hose and changed the soil.
I also take cutting in case I completely loose my plant. Take care Pam and stay safe.💖💖💖💖💖
Ps: for your orchids change them to Barck they will love it. Once a week you soak them in water with fertilizer for 15 minutes.
Lecca is good for fungus gnats. I have almost all my plants in leca but spider mites and thrips don't seem to be impressed by it. Most trips lay their eggs in the leaves so if you doing it to avoid pests...
Girl I completely get the buying too many plants too fast!!! You definitely learn that MAJORITY of those you bought you end up hating 😭
Why did we feel we needed them at the time?! Ahahahaha
I have missed you! I want to hop through my screen and help.
I‘m sorry you are dealing with thrips! 😣 Wish you will get rid off them soon! 🤞
I’ve been gardening for 20 years and indoor plants just stress me out like nothing else can.
Rosemary Gladstar has some great beginner books on medicinal herbs, how to know, grow, and use them! I use her as a reference A LOT!
Lmao, you just said it after I typed this 🤣🤣
Pest related… I bought a huge orchid for my daughter we reported it watched it bloom. Beautiful for a few months. Walked by it one day last week and it was covered in mealies 😳 where do they come from? Not a sign of them before? How long do they lie and wait? How long can eggs just sit and wait before they hatch? it’s mind blowing.
Also when the string of hearts fell I felt your pain- so something that would Happen to me 😬
Get glazed terracotta maybe? Also for slugs I use Monterey lg6575 sluggo plus. Wildlife, human, and pet safe. Plus I don’t like killing them. They just avoid the circle
I love the foliage on the fish peppers…did you plant those seeds in your garden? My monstera is so sad. I moved it to get more light which helped me get some split leaves. Now it has brown spots on all the leaves and the new leaves are mottled green. I think it must have a virus or something is definitely wrong. I’m not sure what to do…I need to learn about copper fungicide.
Beer is a good way to kill slugs. Put a puddle of cheap beer in a container with low sides and rounded edges (lids of plastic containers work great) and place it in the garden kind of away from the plants around dusk. The slugs will go for the sugar.
Yep. Never had thrips. Then I noticed plants dying from bases of the leaves and thought wth? Then I saw the little squirmy ba5t3rds! So now I have to regularly spray for mites AND thrips ....ps... And I haven't filed my taxes yet either sister. And I usually get money back and still am somehow slacking on it. And we're the same age! I feel like we would've been friends in high school. Let's pretend we were so we can also not ever have time to call each other now, but still consider each other a friend, that we never see.
How cute 💖💖💖
Massachusetts here too!! Once I heard you say that it gave me even more positive vibes for my plants haha I've been plant struggling and your videos have helped
Hi. Do you can sell coleus cutting? For you I’m love with this plant. I’m looking for the dart purple one.
Hey Lady, Ques. What were you doing with the brush? I didn't see you cleaning the brush while going from plant to plant. I was a little nervous and said to myself, I def gotta clean that brush before going to the next plant. What say you to me? Don't worry, you'll get through the plant cleaning. BECAUSE LOVE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH. Play music, Fill the house with music if nobody is home while you cleaning your plant village. Or keep the plant videos on youtube playing. Have a blessed Year!
I use this method from Heart Shaped Leaves too and I usually just swish the brush around in whatever mix I'm using before going to a different plant, but it's probably more for my peace of mind because there's already so much of the mix on the brush that if there's anything on it then it's probably dead anyway🤷
@@laurenervin1404
I agree that it's probably peace of mind on my part as well and that's because of a small feeling that what if. Wouldn't it just be better even if it may be overkill. At least that's my thinking. Have a blessed Year. JOHN 3:16-18
I don’t think I’ve ever stuck around so long for a chatty video but here we areeee. 100th comment later haha but agrreeed about you think you come up with a video idea then all of a sudden it’s all over the place hahaha
Honestly I just film whatever I get the chance to or feel like filming. I’m normally a pretty quiet person so putting on that “happy go lucky” face for a video really isn’t me and I feel like it still isn’t me in my videos 100% but that’s also cuz I’m camera shy. I like being on the other side of the camera lol
69th comment 🤪 I totally know how you’re feeling. I had a nervous breakdown last year when I first came across mealy bugs, then aphids, then thrips. This is why I don’t buy expensive plants anymore 😭
🌻
Thrips are the devil! I've been using different systemics on all my plants for a few weeks now and I still find thrips every now and then... I'm using Captain Jack's directly on any bugs I see.
I used baby wipes, jacks, and neem and beat thrips.
Hey Pam! I had an idea for a video. Plants you are killing or plants you've decided you dont like to grow.
Hey again. To combat slugs, we have great success with beer, yes gurl, beer! I save my lil' single serve plastic fruit / applesauce cups, fill 1/3 with beer and put in ground in-between my plants and every morn. I get those lil fuckers, and refill every week or so. It keeps plastic outta landfill too. Good luck amazing lady. I swear u and I would be friends if we lived in same state. I relate to you so much. Or we'd be so alike you'd hate me...lol
Head up, you got this shit!
Maybe your plants will come back stronger because trimming stimulates new growth.
Sorry you're going through this... Thrips are horrible 😬
Oh no!! This is so dramatic! I sympathise with you.
If you're into science and you like to try herbalism I would recommend Thomas Easley. He's science-based, very open minded and all in all a great dude. I also *love* Renee Crozier she talks about about how do science and herbalism coming together in her classes as well as super empowering. Rosemary Gladstar is amazing but not super science based.
I feel your pain.
Where do they come from? Like i’ve had spider mites on cuttings in water. I check the front and back completely submerge the cutting in soapy water. Spray with alcohol/water massage the leaves and rinse. Still find the occasional spider mites -I don’t get it.
I have even released beneficial insects and I swear they did nothing. I don’t even know if they even existed 🙄 at one point I wondered if they put bad bugs in instead of good so people would keep buying the beneficial.
At one point I think I got rid of the thrips-then I brought home a Lowe’s Monstera🤦🏽♀️ thought it was clean isolated for over 2 months then bam- thrips!
Cut flowers, through screens, on you, pets, they pupate in soil, they can come in potting mix… and then there’s no predators in our homes generally to balance it out. It’s an inevitable struggle I’m afraid.
I just found a thrip and chucked that shit in the trash lol now I am side eyeing all my other plants. the ogod thing is I have always been paranoid, so I keep them in islands so if one place gets infested at least its harder to get to the otehr ones. I will NEVER purchase on etsy again if the plant was raised outdoors. only lab grown smh
Watching while I clean whatever the hell is on my plants 😑 is this captain jack stuff biological or chemical?
😂 What a title 😳
My first thrip victim was a black cardinal and it did not make it. I knew what adult thrips look like but I had no idea about the larvae. Now a bunch of random plants have them and I have not seen any adults but they must be adulting since a I’ll keep finding larvae on random plants. I keep dousing the plants in captain Jack’s and can control them enough that I don’t get so many deformed leaves anymore but I’m trying really hard not to use systemics 😭.
I feel you. The systemic didn’t even work for me. I’m trashing a plant a week with no signs of relief. I’ve tried everything but I have too many to nail down the every week consistency! Honestly what’s helping the most is the stupid lint roller. I roller off every larvae I see. It’s an actual nightmare.
I wish this on no one.
RIP to our plants 😭
Go for predator insects before systemic. Those helped way more. But once again… I didn’t get more in time now I’m losing again.
Cutting all my vining plants back seemed to help a lot too. Less eggs. I wish you good luck!
@@PamsPrettyPlants Thank you! I think I’ll go for lacewings and not tell me housemate 🤫. Yes good luck to us 😰!
Why not rub with alcohol? I pour hydrogen peroxide diluted with water in the soil...
gurl it has been 5 years and I only have maybe 4 followers so I kinda do not even care about doing videos, I just post when is something important to share other than that I do not care for youtube.
I F*@king HATE thrips so much! I feel like they lay dormant for so long and then when you least expect it wake up and start to multiply.
I quarantine plants for so long and check before I bring a new plant in then all of a sudden their infested. I treat treat treat 🤷🏻♀️.
sad about the baby coleus
Now I don't know what is going on. It looks like thrips but also spider mites but maybe scale? 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Kill me
Our corn was doing fine until we found caterpillars eating it 😅 same with the brussel sprouts and whitefly. I threw a spider plant outside recently cuz of thrips. It's doing fine on the porch for now. Maybe it'll recover 😜 I hope you are able to get rid of the thrips. Every time I find them I say Mother Fucker 😑
Girl, I know first fucking hand what you're going through....I am also dealing with the little mfs and I'm ready to lose my shit.....losing plants over here too ffs lol also, I grow cannabis indoors and outdoors lol
I follow she of the woods but you speak my language better 😂 🤣🙌 these fuckn plants my experience of thrips so far on cannabis they took to 2 phenotypes & didn't bother anything else until the overspray shot them to another fuckn plant. I'm debating on what to do with my soil after harvest💔💩🤘 I'm fan already from this video 💚🍀🔥❄️🌲🍄
Ugh they friggen love cannabis plants, I actually get my predatory insects as leftovers from treating the family pot garden 😂 I follow She is of the Woods too, she cracks me up. It’s weird how hard it is to find normal people on social. Like please drop the work personality and speak to me like a human 😂. Guess everyone didn’t grow up in Boston though, my normal is prob not very normal lol
@@PamsPrettyPlants I tried ladybugs as well but by time they arrived from California there was bout 2 dozen out 3000 left alive💔 they didn't win that war
Bitchhhhh…. Same.
Shhhh..just keep the plants you love.
