De Blokkendoos - Mat '24 - The Dutch 'Blokkendoos'- EMU'24

De trein van de week is niet de mat’36, want die is al een keertje trein van de week geweest. Nee het is mat ’24, oftewel de Blokkendoos. De bijnaam ‘Blokkendoos’ krijgen ze door hun vierkante uiterlijk en omdat alle rijtuigen als blokken te combineren zijn. Het waren de eerste serie elektrische stalen treinen van NS. Het zijn ijzersterke en zware treinen.
Een andere bijnaam van Mat ’24 is ‘stofzuiger’, door het zoemende geluid die sommige treinen uit de serie maken. Mat ’24 bestaat uit motorrijtuigen, stuurstandrijtuigen en tussenrijtuigen in alle drie de klassen. De Blokkendoos kan je natuurlijk zien in het spoorwegmuseum te Utrecht.

The train of the week is not the Dutch (EMU) mat'36, because it has already been train of the week once. no it is the Dutch EMU mat'24, , or the Blokkendoos (Block box). They are nicknamed 'Blokkendoos' because of their square appearance and because all carriages can be combined as blocks. These were NS's (Dutch Railways) first series of electric steel trains. They are strong and heavy trains.
Another nickname of Mat '24 is 'vacuum cleaner', due to the buzzing sound that some trains in the series made. Mat ’24 consists of motor carriages, cab control carriages and intermediate carriages in all three classes. You can of course see the Blokkendoos in the railway museum in Utrecht (the Netherlands).
