As I've gotten older, my respect for Tully, Arn and Ric has grown. Why? Their contribution to the business paved the way for so many current guys to enjoy a great career.
I don’t understand your comment. He was a main event singles wrestler before going to Crockett. When he joined he went into a feud with Dusty (the top baby face). Then he joined Arn and had a long run with the tag belts. They even had the tag belts in the WWF for a time. Cornette has stated that they made way more money then the Midnight Express and the Midnight wasn’t cheap. So, saying he is underrated just isn’t accurate. If anything he got every bit out of his smaller (compared to other wrestlers) frame. One of the best talkers of his era. Arn and Tully were a couple of the very few wrestlers who did their own talking after being given a manager. Also, they wrestled under their own names as champions in WCW/Crockett. Giving them a tag team gimmick would have damaged what they had built. I can’t think of another team that did that. Even Dusty and Magnum were known as America’s Team. Of course they were the Brainbusters in the WWF but that was what Vince always did.
Can you imagine "what could have been" IF Gino Hernandez would have come to JCP with Tully Blanchard? The 4 Horsemen stable of Flair, Blanchard, Hernandez, and Arn managed by JJ Dillon??? WOW...
i remember when the horsemen started flair was still liked and got cheers, arn and ole got booed, but tully got the serious heat. everyone loathed him. he and cornette drew heat like no others. i really enjoy these interviews and constantly think how ironic it is that arn and tully are both such wonderful, humble, polite, and generous people .
"Well you know Tony, all the wrestlers that want to wear the gold around their waist. They all want to be like me Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair or the Andersons and you Dusty Rhodes........you know that I'm always coming after you. 1-2-3...1-2-3 Dusty Rhodes and there is Tully Blanchard on top of you. You might be a big man in some peoples eyes Dusty Rhodes, but... but Tully Blanchard like Baby Doll the perfect 10 is top shelf....nothing but 1st class. Tony I have nothing else to say"
I'll never forget that one cover of Pro Wrestling Illustrated with Ric, Arn, Tully, and Barry (along with J.J.) with all of the major championship belts. God, what a time to be a fan.
***** The cocaine problem surely didn't help Tully's argument either....he was a bit out of control back when he was "let go" by then WWF....he has admitted this on numerous occasions so to now hear him say he was NEVER rehired by another promotion isn't all true on many levels and him being such a crusader on his faith I'd think he'd "hear" what he is saying as well.....just my take.....awaits the onslaught that will be coming my way.....Cheers All
Jonathan Turbide Thanks Jonathan, much appreciated! I would like to think that at some point Tully has over the years remembered his own drug use when hearing of yet another former wrestler dying at a fairly young age and thinking to himself what a blessing it might have been after all to get out of the business back in the day....who really knows. Cheers man
As a kid growing up in the 80's i liked the horseman as a whole but i wasn't a fan of tully...but i sure respected his personna and his awesome ringmanship...hell of a wrestler..
The Horsemen were never the same without Tully. I think Benoit could have replaced him in 89/90 but it would have had to be the Benoit of 97-02 so the timeframe never matched. As Tully once said he was the spark that got the fire going. Without Flair, Arn, & Tully as the core it never worked. Ole, Windham, Pillman, & Benoit were all great legitimate members though.
+Matthew Collins Orton definitely has asshole written across his face like Tully did but he is so damn big he doesn't have that " little bastard who does he think he is " quality
To me, there were only two iterations of the horsemen that appeared to actually gel as a cohesive team: the original with Ole, and Barry Windham. The original 3 of Flair, Blanchard and Arn were the de facto non-negotiable parts of that faction. The 4th kept changing, but Barry & Ole were the only ones that seemed to me to be great fit. Luger didn't. Benoit (though I truly liked his in-ring work) didn't. Pillman was okay, just not great yet. Mongo was a travesty (rest his soul) as a wrestler in general.
I think it was the drugs and maybe he just talked too much. Dusty wanted him gone, WWF didn't want him but they wanted Arn to stay. Then WCW just took Arn back but not Tully.
Blanchard and Rick Rude- two of the greatest heels ever. Some wrestlers alternate between babyface and heel but these two made awesome careers strictly as heels.
Tully & Wahoo was one of hell of a Two Man Power Trip team known as the Awesome Twosome because they would destroy the faces like Dusty, Flair, Steamboat & others. Wahoo cut a promo when they showed clips of him & Tully beating up Flair & when the faces came to make the save & was standing over Flair. Wahoo had said "You want to know what they're thinking? We better leave this alone because we don't want the same thing happening to us" LMAO
He preaches a lot on his faith with God inside many prisons and such...not really sure on the scope of where he goes as far as States and cities....I'm guessing if googled something would pop up ....Cheers
metalbornmetalbred I'm probably thinking he lives "close by" to be around his kids when they were growing up. As the years have gone by they all have obviously figured out a way to make this situation work....but I'm sure you are right about the awkwardness part, at least in the beginning. Cheers
No, Tully beat Mark Youngblood for the TV title, not his brother Jay. Strange I got this right and he didn't...LOL. Of course, anyone can get a name wrong.
I am in the minority but I thought they should have kept Luger instead of Windham . Barry just couldn't work heel and did not fit the horsemen . I am not saying he stunk just that his quality was different , biker or cowboy different . Luger couldn't work very well at the time but he had Frat Boy Jock written all over him which made him a natural heel .
I thought Windham did a pretty good job being a heel as part of the Horsemen. That's actually my favorite incarnation besides the original version with Ole.
The biggest crime was Crockett letting Ted Dibiase go to the WWF, because from what I understand they had always planned on a Flair / Luger program from day one so he was eventually going to split from them. Dibiase would have been great in that spot even more so than Luger. Gino might have been even better had he been alive by that point. Also dont laugh but I think David Von Erich would have been great in that role as well. But I agree, Windham was a better face.
Hate to say I noticed this but I couldn't tell what it was about Tully that was different other than his age and his faith. That dudes teeth are not gnarled like they were back in the day. He got his choppers straightened. Seriously
A lot of times I've listened to these interviews and there is always a question about Lex Luger. Basically trying to dig out the dirt on him. Most of the time nobody usually has anything bad to say about him. I'm just curious as to what warrants the Curiosity?
Well also there has been some talk in the past about him having a bad attitude in the locker room. But yeah I've also heard as many good things about him as bad
Yeah basically he looked good in a suit when he was with them. And I did like him as a heel in late 92 and 93, but in 1988 it seemed like he was just shoved in there almost like it was a last minute decision. Although his in ring talent made him passable. But definately didn't have the heel quality that Ole or even Luger had and certainly not the promo skills of Ole.
no dusty rhodes was in florida in 84 n didnt get 2 jcp until late 84 maybe august. ric flair DID NOT run thru 84 as champion he lost to kerry von erich in may and von erich reigned for 3 weeks. ric ran thru 85 completely as champion
Tully Blanchard is talking out of his ass (nothing new). Crockett has Ric Flair already signed, Tully's trying to get the job while he's drunk and then tells everyone Crockett wasn't making money. Who the F*** does he think he's kidding?? Now Tully's getting "kidnapped" at "Circus Freak Wrestling". This guy NEVER quits with the bullcrap, and you know what?? His daughter is 10 times the wrestler he was in his prime.
Oh and Tully Blanchard is one of the all-time best heels ever.
As I've gotten older, my respect for Tully, Arn and Ric has grown. Why? Their contribution to the business paved the way for so many current guys to enjoy a great career.
Tully was one of the greatest heels ever. The man could draw heat and he should've had a title reign against flair that would've been great
the most underrated heel of all time could talk wrestle and get heat perfect heel
+cKreepy Jones Yeah because most promoters kids stunk up the place , Mike and Chris Von Erich , Eric Watts , George Gulas etc
How is he underrated?
I don’t understand your comment. He was a main event singles wrestler before going to Crockett. When he joined he went into a feud with Dusty (the top baby face). @@robschumann9665 Agreed. Tully had a Stellar career, and as you stated, he Killed it for a guy his size.

Tully is the best - he wrestled Terry Funk @ Slamboree WCW 1994 in Philly ECW FANS WERE GOING NUTS !
Barry Windham was the best version of the 4- Horsemen with Tully, Arn and Ric
Agreed when Ole left they were the best 4horsemen, Barry was way better than Lex was, and Lex was clumsy.
@@BACON-l3t
Agreed!
All the way
@@BACON-l3t Lex was better than Sid

Tully said it best "your job as a heel is to get people to pay money to see you get your ass kicked!"
I enjoyed whole interview with Tully thank you.
Not many could get heat like tully. Thank's devon
I hated him the most lol
Man, I really hated Tully back in the day. His heel character was great and he worked it to perfection.
dusty used to get so angry and shout "tulle blanchud"
"If you Wheel Gordon Solie".........Dusty did have a way with words and pronunciations and thrown in that lisp and boy howdy you had Vintage Dusty
Jonathan Turbide Good point ....always hard to pinpoint a "best ever" but your pick has to be included on that "list"....Cheers

As a kid growing up in the 80's i liked the horseman as a whole but i wasn't a fan of tully...but i sure respected his personna and his awesome ringmanship...hell of a wrestler..
I used to watch wrestling on tbs the super station in the 80s
One of the best wrestler of his time and one of the tougest wrestler

Tully created heat from the fans. Benoit was a great in ring talent. His mic skills were sub par. Randy Orton reminds me of Tully
+solomon hui I agree Orton does remind me of Tully also. Great worker and heat getting machine
Benoit had no heelish properties .
+Matthew Collins Orton definitely has asshole written across his face like Tully did but he is so damn big he doesn't have that " little bastard who does he think he is " quality

Tully and Ric Flair had a great feud pre horseman days most fans are unaware of this history.
Bet Tully really knows why Ole was fired, he just ain't telling. lol
He should have been NWA World Champion.
He probably would have been if Flair had not become the face of the company at the same time.
mightyblack1 abso friggin lutely
Had Magnum TA won the title it might have happened
Ric Flair held too many deserving people back
I think it was the drugs and maybe he just talked too much. Dusty wanted him gone, WWF didn't want him but they wanted Arn to stay. Then WCW just took Arn back but not Tully.

I would to have seen him and Harley Race
Love these stories!
The 4 Hoursemen were at they ZENITH with Flair, Tully, Arn and Luger !
Replace Luger with Barry Windham and your statement is accurate.
@@patrickcleary5949 Windham is not THE TOTAL PACKAGE!
Tully the man
Tully could teach some heels down in NXT a few things about generating heat
Tully was Amazing glad he is doing well God bless him!!
seems like a great bloke , very well spoken was a great worker.
he swear he didn't say i quit!
He only yelled " Yes "
I have Tully doing battle with Magnum TA in a Dog Collar Match later tonight on my PPV. Great times!!!!!
This man right here was better tha a Horseman sidekick. He had it to be World Champ.
His Daughter got to be a World Champion on Impact.
Miss you Mr Blanchard. Top 5 heels
I don't believe Tully when he said he didn't know why Ole got fired. He just don't want to talk about it.
Tully and Arn were probably the greatest tag team in terms of being legit in the ring.
I despised Tully in the 1980's, lol. That meant he was doing his job. One of the best heels ever!
This guy is great
He was honest enough to admit the lod beat them up a lot......
Does anyone know what Tully does for a living today. I know he is retirment age but does he still work?

In my mind the horsemen died when Tully was fired.
Have they consider making a female version of the four horseman. Starting with Charlotte Flair, Tessa Blanchard, Allie, & any female bad ass?
please don't
They already had this in NXT , with Charlotte and 3 others , Google it.
They had a lot of the same talent that was there in the late seventies all of whom where great but had gotten stale .
Anyone know who conducted this interview? Kinda sounded like Chris Jericho.
