This was such classic stuff! Here in Philly after the cartoonish WWF would end at 12noon, we would have to wait 2 hours until 2pm to watch NWA World Wide Wrestling on Channel 17. Insane crowd heat, amazing interviews, and spectacular angles! This stuff was hardcore before the term was en vogue.
My Saturday was religiously centered watching NWA World Wide Wrestling at 2 on Ch 17 and then waiting for World Championship Wrestling on TBS at 605. To cap off the weekend, NWA Pro Wrestling at 10p Sunday on Ch 57. Man, they were the good ol' days and going to matches at the Civic Center.
@@smarkslowplay3512 I met Ivan once. He had a table setup at Walmart in Pigeon Forge Tn. For $5.00 he’d take a Polaroid with ya. My friend didn’t think it was a big deal but I was star struck. I couldn’t even come up with one worthwhile question and lost the picture over the years. He was very gracious to us.
@@maximumeffort2729 I met Ivan at a wrestling show in Wilson NC in the late 90s. Got his autograph, and talked to him for a while. What a great man and legend, very nice guy. Still have the autographed pic of him and Nikita on my wall in a frame.
God, that brings back memories. I saw that at the time. I left during the interview to get a drink and got back just before Nikita clocked him. I hadn't even gotten sat down and stood there dumbfounded. Those were the days.
I was cheering for Nikita at first when he was feuding with Flair because Flair was playing the mind games with Magnum TA about The Suit and bragging constantly. Then I realized that Flair was sort of the good guy in this situation. It wouldn't last that long as Flair would then injure Dusty Rhodes after Rhodes saved him from an attack by the Russians.
When I saw this as it happened back in the day, I had no idea David Crockett had been trained as a wrestler...I thought he was just an announcer. But, damn...he took that bump and sold it.
Yeeehaaa! What a great memory. Channel 36 or 18 out of Charlotte, my brothers and I were glued to the set Every Saturday afternoon to watch the best wrestling in the history of wrestling. We'd be so hyped from the action, we'd usually end up in the backyard having our own matches. I got to meet Nikita in 2012 at my sister's church, what a humble, gracious, kind hearted hulk of a man.
I remember when Uncle Ivan introduced the world to Nikita. Nikita was an absolute animal and that Russian Sickle was devastating. People underestimate how good Uncle Ivan was on the mic.
Of course we all knew rasslin' was fake..........but then along came something like this that put just a liiiiiiitttttllllle doubt in our minds and a glimmer of hope that it was real.......
kevin baker actually it WAS unscripted. That’s why it cut so quickly. Crockett legit injured his neck and had a cracked jaw. Watch at the end of the sickle how Ivan looks at Nikita. It’s as if to say “what are you doing, idiot?!”
I was never a Crockett fan so I didn't mind him taking a ride on the Sickle train. I couldn't see this happening to Gordon Solie or Mean Gene. Great story line during a great time in wrestling. Outstanding post.
This is such a great angle by the NWA. The slow build up. The viewer is focused on Ivan Koloff and David Crockett going back and forth. Ivan moving David Crockett's hand away. Suddenly, Nikita unleashes the Russian sickle without warning.
Wrestlers that really seemed crazy. Nikita Kolloff, Abdullah the Butcher, Bruiser Brody, Ox Baker, Missing Link. Honorable mentions Kamala and early George the Animal Steele
Three things: 1.Why is it that almost every single interview from 30+ years ago better than everything going today?, 2.Nikita stole all of Barbarian's heat, and 3.LOOK AT HOW F'ING JACKED BARBARIAN WAS THERE!
Nikita just became my favorite wrestler of all time. This was about a year before I started watching the NWA so I missed this. Props out to Crockett for taking the bump though.
I briefly turned into a kid. Everyone remembers this one. channel 53 oh the memories. I love it. Man wrestling had a cast of characters. As a kid I bought everything they said LOL Classic tv. I hope they are all doing well. You had the koloffs the samoans, Abdullah the butcher. Thanks for the memories.
The Barbarian seemed pleased as well. When this happened I LOVED IT!! Listen when I went to matches they sold LOTS of Nikita shirts. I wish I got one but between Catholic school bill...all the metal cassettes and records, Cowboys jerseys, hockey equipment...I got my Baby Doll shirt, a Dusty Shirt (old one no face just his name on it) but my money for wrestling went to everything ROAD WARRIORS.
The Barbarian had some weird facepaint designs in his early years but his best design was when he was one half of The Powers of Pain. He looked like an alien. And when he stuck out his tongue... Yikes.
Great angle to set up the Flair - Nikita rivalry. For all the talk about David Crockett being a terrible announcer - and nobody should ever argue the he was the best, he sure knew how to get angles over.
While Stone Cold Steve Austin has done that more than enough times. it would be awesome if someone sickled McMahon while he was still just an announcer and not an on-screen character.
Eric Maltbia, that can NEVER happen too many times to him *lol*...it was the early 90’s in two instances; 1.) McMahon gets in the way of chair shot that was meant for Flair, by Piper on ‘SuperStars of Wrestling’. 2.) Randy Savage hurls him to the floor (going after a newly turned heel Crush) on a broadcast of ‘Monday Night Raw’.
Finally a David Crockett interview I enjoyed
What dedication to the business. Say what you will but David Crockett loved wrestling and it showed. He should be heralded for his commitment
No fan of Crockett but this is how you do a promo Barbarian and Paul Jones laughing in the ring was priceless !!
I think Mcmahon was behind it all. dusty rhodes different matches and others told a better story.
David Crockett was the best heel ever-without even trying to be.
So annoying. Only Tony Schiavone made these shows watchable.
@@jamie.777 David Crockett only got the job because of his last name. But if you like him, more power to you, my friend.
@@gladfan1989 You're full of it ..David was 10 times better than that puts Schiavone

philaman1972 It sold wrestling as a fight, not as a circus. Great stuff. Love it!
philaman1972 absolutely 1p can't deny it, I got hooked into it when RNR EXPRESS defeated the Russians wow
philaman1972 the civic center
Philly is a Blue Collar city and that's who Jim Crockett promotions marketed towards.

Haha, even The Barbarian approved of what Nikita did.
The Barbarian was yelling “Tommy Young!!!!”
Me too lol!
Looked like he was doing a little dance lol
That is hilarious.
That look on Nikita's face the whole time during the interview is priceless.

That Russian Sickle wasn't no joke
Don Peterson CORRECT!! Nikita Koloff was awesome!!
That Russian sickle was grimy Lmao!!!
David Crockett remembers that Russian Sickle to this day.
Facts. I remember he wrapped a chain around his arm and sickled Magnum T A with it.
@@lemondishonor7736 He also did that To The Road Warriors and he also busted Sting open like that a few years later.
The moment Nikita became a babyface in the fans' hearts.

If only someone would’ve done that to Russo, bro!
I Totally agree!
Ivan Koloff, the man who made talking in the third person cool!
No, that was Dusty Rhoades
No, that was The Rock.
this third person's better than this Dusty Rhodes. Ain'tnobody better
I remember watching that as a kid!!! Great Times there! !!
The Golden Years of Wrestling. Great Memories Nikita Ivan & The Barbarian
"Oh my goodness..somebody check on David Crockett" LMAO!
One of my favorite childhood memories seeing David getting sickled.
RUSSIAN SICKLE WAS SICKKKKKK
Especially when they folded up like a chair.
I liked David Crockett and he was on that plane with Flair too
An all-time memorable moment in the history of pro wrestling.
After that the Barbarian agreed with the action.
One of my favorite moments in the history of wrestling
Tony didn't sound too put off, did he? Looks like The Barbarian liked it, too.
Deep down, Tony was probably cheering Nikita for knocking David right out of his shoes.
Right! He didn't sound upset at all.
Crockett had it coming. Interupting interview AND telling Koloff to shut up.
In that one moment, Nikita Koloff was all of us.
You could see Nikita's limit break fill up during the segment before unleashing The Sickle.
I will forever remember this moment back from my childhood. The 80's where simply the best time in wrestling... in my opinion.
Schiavone just dripping with insincerity with the “Oh no! Somebody check on David Crockett!”
At that time I was no fan of the Russians, but David Crockett had that coming.
WORD!!!!
Did Nikita knock his head off with that move? That was something else. Reminded me of AWA when Jesus Christ was shouted out after a melee brawl.
Walter Schivo i also thought his head came off at first. what a vicious shot
Michael Warren Honestly, I liked David Crockett but, he definitely had it coming. I'm actually amazed that he didn't get his ass kicked more often.
I might have slapped Crockett's beard off him, too... LOL
he's one of my closest friends now, but back then, Nikita scared the crap.out of me
Nikita's a great man..I wonder what he is doing nowadays?Last time i heard i believe he was still in the ministry.
he's doing his ministry work and having phenomenal work with his nutrition business
I remember sitting in the first few rows when he took on Dusty and being scared for Dusty. Monster heel in those days.
Good for him . Nikita is a wonderful immigrant success story...
If immigrating is considered moving from Minneapolis to Charlotte.
As Booker T used to say, "Some Sucka just got smoked!".... lol
camp168 who's Booker t? I only watch ole wrestling
CROCKETT IS DOWN, CROCKET IS DOWN
When I saw this as it happened back in the day, I had no idea David Crockett had been trained as a wrestler...I thought he was just an announcer. But, damn...he took that bump and sold it.
That brought back great memories. He got hit pretty hard for something that is supposed to be scripted. Thanks for the clip.
Nikita looks like he's dressed to go cruising Miami Beach with the top down with Crockett & Tubbs!

Ivan was a great talker.
Crockett had it coming.
"Oh my goodness. Somebody check on David Crockett. Oh no." Geez, Tony, Joe Buck thinks this was a bit undersold.
Tony was probably pumped that David was put on the shelf by the Russians.
lol Barbarian is like "Heck yeah Nikita get 'em!"
Nikita was a beast ..Huge How did he manage to fit into John Travolta's Saturday night Fever Suit Jacket
He was on Flair's nuts so hard. Thank you Nephew Nikita.
Pretty sure he still is. It’s insane. Watched a couple interviews with him recently.
When Uncle Ivan speaks you listen!

Funny thing is I quote some of the things Ivan Koloff has said. It's low-key hilarious.
Poor David Crockett didn't have a choice but to sell that one, Nikita blindsided him

I remember watching this and thought he killed Crockett 😂😂
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

I can watch that over and over!
My favorite part of the video was the barbarian laughing at the end. Love it!
I remember watching when this first happened!!!! I love the good old days of wrestling!!!!
The more David Crockett talked the More angry Nikita got even the ref had a smile Tony was trying not to laugh 😂
I was there for TV taping at the Shelby City Park. Crazy times when Flair showed up for his interview.
I'd say Nikita was pretty restrained compared to what Crockett deserved.
Ivan Koloff sound like the Cookie Monster on Sesame Street😊
