He was really from Minnesota. He trained with The Road Warriors, Rick Rude, & Barry Darsow. He was hoping to debut in 1983 like the others, but had suffered an arm injury, delaying his debut. It was determined that he would portray a Russian athlete who was supposed to be in the 1984 Olympics. They used the Soviet boycott as the backstory. To me, it was a play on Brad Rheingans of the AWA. He was on the US team that boycotted the 1980 Olympics.
@@MarcillaSmith Had Scott not gotten injured and debuted with the others, would he have had another gimmick? Also, they were going to make Rick Rude "Hawk" at first instead of Mike Hegstrand.
if you think that Steamboat had only two 5-star matches, then you obviously haven't seen many of his throughout his career. It's no coincidence that so many greats say that Steamboat is the best they've ever worked with in the ring--his work ethic and skill level was out of this world
i miss this time in the wrestling world, i miss the great nikita as he was a monster. but mostly i miss the dream..there will never be another like him..rest in peace champ.
I think your mostly right about Lex being better than Nikita. But Nikita as a heel in 85-86 he was more over than Lex ever was as a heel. Basically he was the #3 most over heel in wrestling 1) Flair 2)Orndorff when he was battling Hogan 3) either Nikita or Tully, probably Nikita.
I'm gonna go on a limb here & assume that this had to take place right around the time that Barry Windham turned heel & became a 4 Horseman, cos I have my NWA wrestling game, & Windham was a Horseman by then, & both Koloffs along with Rhodes were also included in this set. So based on all that, I would have to assume that this clip fit that time frame.
bull864 That sounds about right right. Its been a while since I retraced the time line of it. Thanks for the heads up on it. As for me, in 15 minutes, it'll be time to have my NWA raise some more hell with the new show to counter the silly WWEs. Mine is called NWA Monday Night Wars On TBS Then Tue-Thu its back on tour with some house shows before heading back to home base Atlanta at the TBS studios for the stars vs the jobbers for the weekend. Just like old times again. I even have up my own website where I post up all the action. Sure beats the crap that's on TV today. I've been doing up the NWA for 30 glorious years & I love it. By the way, happy holidays to you & yours this holiday season. Its getting close to BELL TIME!!!
Bryan Allen OK dude Calm down ....sorry. That's not what you said before. The time you talked about would have been Wndham' s heel turn in '88 This is not '88 - Windham didn't become a main NWA staple until he fought Flair at the Crockett Cup '87, won by Nikita and Dusty a few months after this interview - and Nikita lost the US title to Luger at Bash '87 Sorry if I offended you
perry mason I only took offense, on the remark you made in your prior post about putting my game down. As for my very first post on the subject, I said "If memory served me right" I never said that it WAS right. Magnum TA had his accident in 1986 of October & after that, Dusty as the booker, lost his top "face" for the company & came up with the idea of having Nikita turn "face" due to TA's accident. As for my previous post, lets just call that, a misunderstanding on my part, & I'll leave it at that.
A lot of wrasslin fans are critical of both Luger and Nikita. I think the Bash 87 cage match between them is one of the best matches I ever saw. Two big juiced up guys slamming each other, looked real to me. Like an NFL game. Maybe they weren't great workers and they hurt each other, but it was entertaining. Promo skills were weak, but they looked great - real athletes not fat and sloppy. Both were better as heels.
Hey Guys, you have to watch this video with the close caption on, it's funny as hell. lol It can't make heads or tails of what Dusty is saying so it's just making up words that don't exist lol.
Best of Seven Series against Magnum T.A. The Russian Chain matches against The Road Warriors. The War Games: The Match Beyond against the Horsemen. His classic Starrcade match with Flair.
Harley main carded the flair for the gold card, but left shortly after. Nikita and the super powers was a main stay up until around 88. The RnR express were trying to feed off the rock n roll wrestling connection. The midnight rockers were good examples of copy cats. They had a good match with the andersons at starcade 86, but pulled out that dreadful scaffold match at 87 . Morton was not better than Nikita. Don't forget that the Road Warriors and the Russian's also had some great matches.
Coolest fat man that came close to flair behind the mic. He shot some real good shit talkin promos. Dusty talked with a lisp but his lisp was his trade mark.
This should be called I can't make it as a heel and Flair can't carry me in every match. Nikita was lucky Magnum got hurt or would never have been in this role.
The way Nikita Koloff holds that belt shows how the belts were held in high regard. He's also standing as a champion. I stopped watching wrestling because rhey have terrible story lines and the wrestlers don't kniw how to carry the belts as champions.
The days where wrestling was simple and kicked ass. No stupid gimmik characters, no stupid halloween costumes, just basic tights and boots, ass kicking wrestling. Now WWE turned it into a circus side show.
Dusty, like Stevie Ray Vaughan, is a black man who was born in a white man's body. Also, like SRV, I dare you to find someone better at what he does, if you weeeil. Looking at Nikita today, it is amazing how much he looks like Stone Cold! (Or Stone Cold looked like him.) Down to the stare!
These days can never happen again
What a beautiful time when Wrestling was King.
I hear ya! EVERY Saturday morning and Saturday evening, I was tuned in to WTBS, The Super Station! 👌🏿
The Russian Nightmare teaming up with the American Dream was just perfect
The Super Powers (Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff) later won $1,000,000 in a tag team match in the Jim Crockett, Sr. Memorial Cup in 1987.
The American Dream classic jive talking....Miss that dude R.I.P. Dusty
@jim Moore He reminds me of my pops...R.I.P. to both....
Dusty invented the Russian Nightmare gimmick; recruiting a Minnesotan was close enough to Siberia.
"you always find a dog at 3:00 in the morning"....lmmfao!!! real talk!!
Damn im gonna miss my man Dusty there will never be another
I wish wrestling was like this again. The audience is so pumped.
Some of the best mic skills EVER.

That's what the KGB wants you to think. "Scott Simpson" - yeah, right
@@MarcillaSmith Had Scott not gotten injured and debuted with the others, would he have had another gimmick? Also, they were going to make Rick Rude "Hawk" at first instead of Mike Hegstrand.
Closed Captioning on Dusty is down right hilarious

Dusty Rhodes: Texan, Floridan, legend of Charlotte's Jim Crockett Promotions and Atlanta's WCW, owner of a coat suited for the Hudson Bay.
"The heartbeat of america" and the current "bull of the woods" if you will

Koloff sounds like Oscar from sesame street lol.
this was the U.S. champ..and look at what we have today defending that glorious title..very sad.
+brian centi I backtracked to see who you were referring to, and YES, I agree with you 100%!
Karl E Paul LOLOL..sorry KARL i should explained it a bit better, my bad :)
Why do they bother with this title, US Title was an NWA title , they should have retired it with dignity
Awesome promos! Thanks for uploading and God Bless!
If you ever watch The Dusty Rhodes DVD Set, then you know that Dusty grew up in an integrated neighborhood. White, Black and Brown.
Now that is a Pimp Coat! Dusty Rhodes was a badass...
Dusty looking like a Boss
Lol Nikita having to follow The Dream on the mic? Dusty set that man up!
Dusty and Flair are the best promo guys of all time
I'm putty! Blue eyed soul pimpin 101! Haha Rip if you wheeeeeiiiiiiiillllllll!
I don't see how nikitta kept a straight face at Dusty's dog comment, Tony started laughing , you can see the mic shaking
Hell yeah. I'm watching Dusty in this interview LAUGHING! 😂
Gotta love Dusty wearing the fur coat with a cowboy hat.
RIP Dusty
Look at that stare from Nikita! Intimidation!
A personally autographed Nikita Koloff photo is one of my prized possessions!!
No!!! Bill Goldberg was inspired by Nikita! You at the explosiveness of Goldberg on WCW Nitro, and Look at the explosiveness of Nikita Koloff!
i miss this time in the wrestling world, i miss the great nikita as he was a monster. but mostly i miss the dream..there will never be another like him..rest in peace champ.

i love me some dusty rhodes
This was the greatest time to be a wrestling fan!!!
I’ve always said, Dusty’s spirit was a black man in another life!
Rhodes said "Tully Blanchard is wearing something that belongs to me"....Pimp talk!!!

Studio wrestling was the best and will always be the best no doubt about it
Nikita Koloff was explosive in the ring. Look at the Explosiveness of Bill Goldberg, back during the Nitro days of WCW! Similiar.
Rest In peace American Dream Dusty Rhodes

Nah, this was shortly after Starrcade '86. Windham joined the Horsemen in the spring of '88.

This was right after Starcade 86, November 1986. Nikita won DQ against Flair, and Dusty lost to Tully. Know your history and put down the game

If UFC was around 20+years ago...I wouldn't be surprised if Nikita Koloff made it.
Duty is out there pimpin

Best of Seven Series against Magnum T.A. The Russian Chain matches against The Road Warriors. The War Games: The Match Beyond against the Horsemen. His classic Starrcade match with Flair.

Dusty had the best Rap in all of Wrestling, Rick Flair was always trying to be cool as the Dream but he never got the job done!
I never was a Dusty Rhodes fan at all. He was just good enough to defeat the bad guys. Nikita on the other hand was awesome!
dusty had the best promo ever
Hey Dusty!!! Pimping ain't easy, PLAYA!!!
You can always find a dog at 3 o clock in the mornin.Good one.
Didn't know you could count that high.
Nikita sounds like Triumph the insult comic dog. @ 2:56 I though he was going to say, "For me to poop on!"
Makes me want a long Fur coat.....

Great stuff!!!! Uncle Ivan...LMBO!!!
Big Dust says he is so putty, lord is he putty. To bad Nikita never got to win the world title.
Nikita Koloff just looked like the baddest dude in the land.
when they teamed up with the road warriors the wrestling world exploded
superpowers
you are wrong. koloff was a great heel who got tons of heat. the only reason they made the switch is because of ta's car accident.
Dusty really sounded like a southern black preacher right here. LOL
Ric flair promoting Nikita
We
Crockett promotions was always the best.
Dusty should have borrowed some of Nikita's steroids. LOL Vintage clip
Together, they have the equivalent material for one shirt.
Dusty is a great wrestler.
Big Dust the America dream, the dream will always stay alive !
Joe Namath of professional wrestling.
Nikita should've been a World champion
Classic!!!
"Yeah I'm puttay, I know I'm puttay"
Dusty was using ebonics long before they became cool....
Coolest fat man that came close to flair behind the mic. He shot some real good shit talkin promos. Dusty talked with a lisp but his lisp was his trade mark.
All of them.
This should be called I can't make it as a heel and Flair can't carry me in every match.

@tmattrope Dusty was the booker at the time, IIRC. That's why.

Have you seen any footage of Nikita going against Ivan? (solo or tag)
USMC Like Dusty says he know he pretty my boy R.I.P American Dream
You may be cool but you'll never be Dusty Rhodes in a fur coat standing next to the Russian nightmare cutting promos with Tony Schiavone cool 😎
Nikita Koloff looks like Henri Sattler of God Dethroned, LOL! He is all buff though!
Looking back at it, WCW's first lady baby doll was kind of sexy. "Besides every man there's a bad girl"
RIP Nikita.
Only for Cuba Link
Yeah, Dusty looks pretty and Ivan Koloff has no right whatsoever to talk bad about Nikita.

David Powell someone better than SRV? Hmmm, Hendrix, Clapton, jack White, Buddy, Guy
DUSTY DEFINITELY TALKED LIKE A BLACK MAN DIDNT HE, I THINK HE WAS THE BEST TALKER EVER IN WRESTLING 😊
Nikita Koloff reminds me SO MUCH of GOLDBERG WHEN HE(Nikita)first started as a HEEL😊
Love that fur coat
@Kramer135 what fight skills did he have?
