  • Hundreds of Kenyan police officers arrived in Haiti this week at the start of a UN-backed security mission. The Kenyans touched down in Port-au-Prince just as their own country faced its worst unrest in decades. Their mission in Haiti is to try to curb the gang violence that has overrun the country.

When asked about the UN attempts at restoring order in Haiti from 2004-2017, all this jounalist spoke of was that there were some human rights violations perpetrated by the peace keepers. What type of violations ? Can any be individually documented ? 10,000 killed. By who ? The peace keepers had responsibilty for killings ? These are not answers and the interviewer should have followed up.

This is going to be extremely difficult. The armed gangs play by their own rules. The gangs will have to be neutralized, and members will possibly want to fight. The amount of bloodshed can only be guessed. If you can eliminate the gangs, you must find something that will provide stability, security, and a reasonable chance of bringing the population out of poverty.

Haiti has been a failed state for decades, its more like Somalia. Hopefully, the Kenyan police can help stop the violence, but they probably need two full divisions to stop this crisis. Basically, Haitians cannot govern themselves and have consistently demonstrated this for years. They probably need an outside dictator to make their country work.

I think they just need to keep a shared presidential system for several decades to allow the country to get back to its feet.
There's just too much conflict with a 1 President system for them. They don't trust each other and that vibe spills into the legislature. Gangs became part of the political landscape and were maintained in part to suppress political opponents.
A shared presidential system (like it is under the current transition) will be the perfect Haitian solution to a Haitian problem.

Our coastline features a diverse array of landscapes, from pristine sandy beaches and rocky shores to picturesque bays and coves. The lengthy coastline offers numerous opportunities for tourism, fishing, and maritime activities. Additionally, Haiti's strategic position in the Caribbean makes its coastline a significant asset for trade and transportation. Haiti's potential also lies in its rich cultural heritage, vibrant art scene, talented musicians, fertile agricultural land, stunning beaches, unique biodiversity, historical significance, energetic youth, entrepreneurial spirit, untapped natural resources, potential for renewable energy, strategic location in the Caribbean, robust diaspora, and resilient community.

The Kenyan police have begun a UN-backed security mission in Haiti to help curb the country's severe gang violence and restore order. Hundreds of Kenyan officers arrived in Port-au-Prince this week, with more police from 15 other nations expected to join them for a total force of 2,500.
The mission's mandate is to provide operational support to the Haitian National Police (PNH) by conducting joint security operations against gangs, securing key infrastructure, and ensuring safe access for humanitarian aid. However, the mission's exact rules of engagement and concept of operations have not been made public, raising concerns about transparency.
While some Haitians welcome the foreign intervention, many are wary given Haiti's troubled history with past UN missions. The success of the Kenyan-led mission will depend on how it relates to the Haitian government and civil society, as well as its communication strategy.
Ultimately, whether the Kenyan police can effectively end Haiti's crises remains to be seen. The mission faces significant challenges, including the entrenched power of Haiti's gangs and the country's complex political and humanitarian situation

Haiti just needs to keep a shared presidential system for several decades to allow thto country to get back to its feet.
