    Hallelujah! Someone who *actually* does functional planning! And, the best part - not a sticker or strip of washi tape in sight! Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! I’ve been watching a TON of videos on the Hobonichi planners and functional planning the last few months and yours are BY FAR (!!!) the best! There is absolutely no comparison. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas and for taking the time to teach how to use them in such clear ways. I hope you’re well!

    The waiting on and kiv sections have literally just changed my life! I've never been able to figure out how to lay out content that isn't day-specific but I need to see throughout the week. Such a great video, thank you for sharing!

      As always, thanks for watching, Serena! =) I'm glad that this video was helpful for you. Just curious, why did you change to a Cousin? Was there not enough space in the A6 or you just wanted to try something different or...?

    • @serenatodd1785
      @serenatodd1785 6 лет назад

      Yes, right! Not enough room in my A6 and I felt like my hand was always hanging off the page. I'm a little intimidated but also really excited to try the cousin. Even just holding it in my hand feels right:)

      I know what you mean! I really hate that feeling of my hand hanging off the page! I really hope you like using the A5. Other people tell me A5 is too much space... It's so hard to find a Goldilocks planner sometimes.

    This is great! I haven't used the weekly pages in my cousin avec very much, but I'm getting some good ideas from you. I don't have very many tasks or meetings scheduled, so I'm working with the ideas to adapt them to my life. Most of my tasks are not time sensitive, so I need more of a running to do list (which I like to write in big bold marker pen! eek), but I also like to track my time as a diary + journal + pictures. I got burned out lately doing journaling and a kind of scrapbooking in my daily pages, so I'm looking for new ideas to use for next year. I'm thinking it'll be some kind of homemade hybrid between a Traveler's Notebook and a Hobonichi with an extra booklet for a reading journal. At least then I can change my mind as the year goes on and try out new ideas. I love your ideas for how to use my hobonichi right now though.

    • @olivemaycards
      @olivemaycards 6 лет назад

      I haven't used my Sharpie markers in my hobonichi - I'm sure it would bleed through. I use really big post-it notes for those lists right now. I'm pretty sure you're right about tomoe river paper - water based works but oil based bleeds. It's the same with stamping inks and with pens - Copics bleed through, but watercolor brush markers are OK.
      I'm still figuring out what I'm doing next year but I think it will all be in homemade booklets. I need to look at hobonichi's website again and see if they have anything that will work for my complicated plans. The Cousin is too much space for me right now but I don't love the A6 size. And real TNs are too narrow for my liking. I'm so picky!!

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад +1

      From the description of your plans, I think you could consider a Weeks or a Mega Weeks. Running lists on the right, and any appointments on the left. Additional pages at the end for notes which you can use for reading journal. I'm not sure if the Weeks is a real TN size but you could wrap it in your TN. You will have to measure it =)
      At the risk of sounding like a crazy person who spends all her time on the Hobonichi site, Hobonichi sells memo books that MIGHT be useful for you?
      For Weeks: www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2018/pc/detail_toolstoys/tt_memo_w.html
      For Original (A6): www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2018/pc/detail_toolstoys/tt_memo_o.html
      For Cousin (A5--Currently out of stock): www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2018/pc/detail_toolstoys/tt_memo_c.html
      You can use the memo book for Weeks as reading journal. I personally think it might be a bit too slim but maybe you don't write that much?
      Just my two cents!!!

      @@yukikosakamura6498 Hah -- I use the Weeks as my Every Day Carry and those little memo books as a daily bullet journal when needed. One memo book seems to last for about a month. Portability is really a priority to me, because I am now retired and am on the go all the time (playing music, studying, volunteering). The Weeks fits into my crossbody purse. My Filofax Personal planner is too big for that, and stays on my desk, Weeks slides in front. Really enjoy your videos.

      Do i need a pencil board for the hobonichi? I don't write super hard but currently i write in the midori md and i sometimes see lines from the previous page. Also, i currently use muji pens and i am afraid to use them in the hobonichi? what pens do you recommend? thank you so much!!

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад +2

      On pencil board: I use a pencil board because I write super hard and the ink from the back page transfers to the facing page. If this is what you're seeing from your midori md, then I recommend you cut some cardstock paper to size and use it as a pencil board of some sort. I only recommend buying pencil boards if you're writing on paper without grids. Since the Hobonichi already has grids, no reason to spend money on a pencil board--unless you want to! =D
      On pens: I do not recommend muji pens in the Hobonichi because they take a long-ish time to dry. (All gel pens do.) So far, the following two pens do not smudge in the Hobonichi: Jetstream pen (which comes with the Hobonichi purchase) and any felt tip pens (e.g., Sakura Microns, Staedtler Triplus Fineliner). You can also use a pencil. I personally do not like the Jetstream pen because the ink in the barrel dries up quite quickly and I can't use the ink -- what a waste. Also, after some time, the ink bleeds through the Tomoe River paper (probably because it's oil based, not water-based). I also do not use the fineliners because I write super hard and I blunt the fineliners within a month--it distresses me that I have to replace my fineliners every month! I do not use pencils because I like dark lines. Also, pencils give me that graphite transfer issue that I talked about earlier. I currently use a Pilot Metropolitan with a Pilot Kakuno fine nib, inked with Noodler's Heart of Darkness. The Pilot Kakuno's fine nib produces a thinner line than a Pilot Metropolitan nib. The finer nib allows my fountain pen ink to dry faster. While writing, I also take extra care to overlay the pencil board/ink blotter if I think I might smudge some writing. Fountain pen inks I have used include Waterman, Parker's Quink, and Pilot Iroshizuku. These give me minimal smudging problems. Only Heart of Darkness gives me so much problems and I think it's just because Noodler's inks take a tad longer to dry because of their bulletproof properties.
      Sorry for the long response but I do hope this helps =)

    Great way to plan a week and a day 😊 I would also want to see a video about how to plan for a week if you have 1 project that have inside a lot of tasks that will take a week or even more to make. Need to write everything about a project on separate page? To break it on smaller tasks? How do you do it and how to track it? Thank you!

    • @yukikosakamura6498

      Hi! Thanks for watching! And thanks for the video idea! Yes, I actually write the project on a separate page (one of the daily pages) and break the project down into tiny steps. I'll see if I can make that video sometime end of next month, when the crazy busyness has died down =D

    Lovely layout. Watching this, I was thinking I'd need to separate the sections with colour as my brain processes colour-coding so easily. :) Have you considered or do you feel the need to colour-code the titles of you sections?

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад

      Sadly, my brain doesn't process colour coding. Colours make my brain swim coz I have to pay attention to both the colours and the words. I'd love to see how you colour code. Maybe there's a better way of colour coding and I've just not hit upon the right way!

    I love your ideas. Thank you for sharing. What pen are you using? It looks like there's a white glow behind the black ink! It's lovely.

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад +2

      Hi! Haha, I think the white glow may be the lighting I used! I don't think the ink has any special properties like that. In my Hobonichi, I use a pilot metropolitan (with a pilot kakuno nib), inked with Noodler's Heart of Darknesss. =)

    • @Organisedvicar
      @Organisedvicar 6 лет назад

      I hadn't realised the nibs were interchangeable on those two pens, thank you! Do you not find the ink needs refilling on the Metropolitan often?

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад

      Yeah, Pilot nibs tend to be interchangeable, is what I heard. =) I only use the Metropolitan in my Hobonichi Cousin. For writing on normal paper, I use a Pilot Kakuno inked with Parker Quink, muji pens, or uniball signo dx. So I only need to refill the Metropolitan maybe once every week, sometimes even once every two weeks.

      also I love the "KIV" keep in view task list. I've just been transferring a stickies note to each week for future to dos

    • @tiffanyliu9841
      @tiffanyliu9841 6 лет назад

      I currently use a midori as my planner. The left has day specific tasks and the right has to dos that I want done in the week. There isn't a super ton of space to journal so I will just draw out and label the highlights of my week (usually during the weekend). I was thinking of going with an A6 for the new year because of it's portability but I adore how you are able to get a 'weekly forecast' of all your tasks in the A5.

    • @yukikosakamura6498
      @yukikosakamura6498  6 лет назад +4

      Hi! Haha, thanks for watching and for commenting!
      I do not decorate my Cousin. I tried washi taping at some point but didn't enjoy the process of measuring the length of washi tape and then trying to reposition it. =p And stickers bulk up the hobonichi. But I want to try to learn how to doodle again, so maybe I will use the A6 for doodling practice, who knows?
      Yes, I love the KIV section too! The KIV and the Waiting On sections are my fave sections!
      Interesting, the way you use the midori... Sounds like the Weeks would be suitable for you? Left for day specific task, right for week specific task, and memo pages for journaling? Alternatively, you can get the A6 with the Weekly Supplement. I'm testing out the A6 with a Weekly Supplement layout for this week. I'll do a video comparing the A5 (with its inhouse weekly layout) and the A6 (with the supplement) if the experiment goes well! =D

So I'm not sure if the shipping is gonna cost way more than the cost of the notebook cover! At some point, I made a cover out of posters--maybe you could do that too if the cover is too expensive?
