Colin, this is the hardest video to watch but also the most glorious because as a DIYer we do what we can with what we have in our garages. The everyday man/woman inventor doesn't usually have the massive, expensive machines that companies have to do the work in next to no time so we struggle on but make something that no machine will ever make. The imperfections make it a piece of art. If you have a little bit of brain then eventually you can make anything.
the regulater will be sort of covered in next video and again in the final one (i say covered but you'll see the set up) as for the maths bit the original plans were of a 55lb jet and i upscaled its size so if apply that to thrust measurement it comes to around 70lb but ive yet to do a practical test.
Of all Colin's videos, I like this one the best. Some others may show more insane ideas being tackled, but what I love about this one is the way it shows the ingenuity and problem solving - all the attempts to get that cone formed without using flash tools. Simply awesome, and a glimpse into some of the thought processes that are bouncing around in the mad plumber's head. I'd love to see more of this kind of content.
normal youtube with a homemade pule jet: "DO NOT TRY THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!!!" Colin: "ok so in this video we are going to be using a pulsejet, click here to see how to build it."
you can use either but tig you have finer control and welding thinish stainless control is good. Tig welders tend to be more expensive to so most people have migs
The most impressive part of this video is just the sheer effort and ingenuity to get the cone rolled. I used to work in a sheet metal shop and I'm very impressed (but not surprised considering the man) with what you were able to accomplish with a 6" bench vise!
its another set of bottles with more rental n i'm to tight but yes would have made it easier. i tried using the tig to soften it abit but its to concentrated
Man Colin, I already loved your channel, then you go and pull out the Pismo Beach shirt! Well, as a Cal Poly engineering alumni (San Luis Obispo, CA) I gotta say, you just hit legend level 9000... Shout out and much love from the Californian Central Coast Mr. Furze, and keep on with the amazing homebrew creations!!! You're an inspiration!
Being here in May 2021 and seeing how young looking you were is hilarious, as well as how much EFFORT you had to put into the most favorite thing I see in your outro now!
Great to watch. 10/10 for tenacity! Doing anything with stainless is a challenge without professional tools! Wooden rings are a an inspired idea. Well done mate. End result is very cool.
Oh, I am SO subbed! I was directed this way by Scott Manley in one of his vids. The selling point: "Colin is a manic bundle of energy that's great fun to watch".... you do not disappoint sir!
Oh wowee watching you bend that sheet on the vise is like some kind of slow torture... when you finally get to the jack and clamps I can calm down because I don't stress out thinking it's going to spring back in your face! :)
New to your channel, love your videos, then I saw this and the amount of pain in the ass you endured to make this work, now I feel inspired and will definitely be following your future endeavors! Thank you for the excellent content and great attitude you provide!
Freaking love it! Especially the part where you looked like you were ready to give up then probably thought "screw it I've already come this far ...gotta finish it"!
Another good one, haven't seen that TIG setup with pedal on torch head over here in the states. It helps to keep stuff outside in sun, when fabbing/creating sometimes. Cheers
I must say, this guy has a really good taste in music, not just because of this video, he's done a perfect job of selecting music for all of his videos.
that would be cool but they have a very small budget n timeframe hence why we went with the pitbike noit the DRZ motor and plus you boys are engine tuners i'd smashed lol.
Well done young man! Love the fact you never give up - you've got that all important stubbornness Ha ! - this is what my lads been tying to build ! - ha ! Well done fella !
Watch Ryder hi there WR I do have one at home ! - my son Lewis - always building stuff- no stainless steel canisters in kitchen - all went to - his pulse jet project - sons latest project was quadcopters - great job of them he's done too ! About same age as the guy in vid too ! - keep up the good work men !
you have lots of tools some that have never seen but love how easily you get work done with them but for this project am surprised how come you don't have a rolling machine
Buddy, I've been watching your videos for a good looooong time now. Just came back to this one to get some inspiration on building a rocket sled here in Canada. Hope the tunnel/bunker is working out well 🤘 might be a good time to build a zeplin next and come over this way for a visit 🤷♂️
With what? a 6' x 4' oven? Cold rolling, although an utter pain in the arse will give better results. And you can actually touch what your trying to form. This guys crazy as it gets but he's not stupid.
Sorry my mistake, Cold forming is what I meant. Anyway, Id seriously doubt a heat gun would provide enough heat to make the metal more malleable. once you've heated 1 end, by the time you've heated the other end sufficiently, your starting point would be too cool to make any difference.
I used to enjoy arc welding in high school shop class. I could never believe they let us use something like that, basically, unsupervised. I was only about 15 and I got to MELT METAL with ELECTRICITY.
That moment at 2.55 where you drink a brew and just stare at it and wonder what to do next - thats me at some point in everything I ever try and make. This is classic Furze, before all the laser cutters and "proper" engineering tools, just trying to bodge something together with basic tools and little planning.
May I know which gas is to be used here for combustion. Pls let me know as early as possible . Coz I've planned to do this as my project work in my college
Hi Colin, This is the first time I have seen this and I know how hard SS is to bend because I made a bonnet for a really old Ford and it was a bugger! Love the idea of the Jack and strap though the bend has to be there first so you have something to ‘close right, but with a "CAN DO" ATTITUDE you aways seem to find a way. > > > I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HOW YOU EVER GOT INTO AND THOUGHT OF A YOUR BRILLIANT INVENTIONS? < <
Coming from someone who has just built his first pulsejet (me) bending it in a roller was hard enough, but to bend it by hand is on another level
He's a madman of all people!
What this video teaches us is: if you have a long enough lever, you can bend anything.
as long as you can avoid slippage and smacking yourself in the face with your tools :D
jdw99 "Give me a place to stand and with a lever I will move the whole world"-Archimedes
+jdw99
A little more than that.
With enough metal bits soldered on.
@@sethtaros7757 Solder?? haha
This mans channel is the most glorious and beautiful thing i have ever found on youtube,
I like this video alot, because you've kept lots of footage where you struggle, it makes it more real.
precision engineering this.
Woo 101!
Kuy
101m4n only the SAFEST and most HEALTH CONCERNED content from this man.
perfect combination of exacted planning and brute force to reach results.
Precision comment that.
2:08 careful Colin, you aren't wearing your safety tie
You're like a punk-rock mad scientist. I subscribed in about five seconds.
When you were bending the sheet of stainless steel I kept on thinking it might spring backs up and smack you on the chin.
I would have given up on that roll bend. You are the man Colin!!

... 'If you had a little bit of brain you could make anything'... 🤔 What a scathing compliment! 😑

Is it a habit of yours to misquote?
You forgot Apache Attack hellicopters

It's just an on of switch and I set the amps on the welder, you can use a pedal to but I only use that on Ali
Instructions on how to build a MASSIVE pulsejet:
1. Big elbows
2. Lots of this
3. WAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Ever heard of Orks?
You fink dis is gunna work boss?
Reb to make it go fassta

arc welding with no gloves?? shit dude. I love your stuff but seriously, I'm amazed that you have all your limbs, even your life for that matter...
+Sub Ripper I TIG without gloves all the time but wouldn't think about MIGing anywhere close to my uncovered fingers, god damn that looked painful.
Don't worry guys, he wears a safety tie! Edit: oh shit he's not wearing his safety tie in this video! COLIN ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MOIND!?!?!?
He had to get a skin graft on his wrist after burning it, then made his wrist mounted flamehtrowers right after.
You know welding produces harmfull rays?
You could be setting yourself up for a nice bit of skincancer.
Bernard Bruinsma and sunburn

I had a dream today about using the welder and making stuff like you do, and you where helping. :D
Bet you drank a whole heap of tea! Cool vid Colin.
Slow-mo Guys collab got me here
Love it, you are the man!

Love the involuntary pelvic thrust at 3:42. A real sign of VICTORY!
My deepest respect! You´re very clever, full with good ideas and a really good entertainer!
Your channel is such a treasure trove of inspiration. This makes my imagination run wild.
why do you need glove
Wow ! I fabricate stainless steel and making that cone was a fantastic feat of engineering with what you had at hand. Well done. Great vid. Cheers.
You really are amazing at what you do, It's people in sheds that we have a lot to thank for..I just think it's brilliant.
Oh, I am SO subbed! I was directed this way by Scott Manley in one of his vids. The selling point: "Colin is a manic bundle of energy that's great fun to watch".... you do not disappoint sir!
Dude i cannot believe the methods you used actually worked, you are a true engineer lol
I just found this guy, holy shit. Seriously, this is the greatest thing ever. WAY TO BE A BADASS HUMAN BEING!
why havent I seen this channel before.. incredible.. must.. watch.. all.. videos..
The proper way to bend metal right here guys! completely professional techniques hahaha
Archimedes would be proud of you for those lever and fulcrum skills.
well since making this and people hearing it and seeing it there is a firm about 20miles away which have one but at the time i couldnt find one close
This guy is a trip, love this channel!!!!
Oh wowee watching you bend that sheet on the vise is like some kind of slow torture... when you finally get to the jack and clamps I can calm down because I don't stress out thinking it's going to spring back in your face! :)
he is one of those people who took his crazy kid ideas and brought them to adult hood i love him
It is hard work to do with few tools. You did it anyway. You're my idol!
Two words to describe you colin...Crazy and Genius!
Somebody buy this guy a roller. This man needs a Roller wow you Rolled that without a roller. You rock....
New to your channel, love your videos, then I saw this and the amount of pain in the ass you endured to make this work, now I feel inspired and will definitely be following your future endeavors! Thank you for the excellent content and great attitude you provide!
This man is a TRUE engineer.
Thanks for the video. You have some really cool projects. Well done.
Freaking love it! Especially the part where you looked like you were ready to give up then probably thought "screw it I've already come this far ...gotta finish it"!
Where in the FVCK has this channel been all my You Tube Life?
Thanks Vsauce!
Another good one, haven't seen that TIG setup with pedal on torch head over here in the states. It helps to keep stuff outside in sun, when fabbing/creating sometimes. Cheers
I love the little stig watching you work
Dude, your skills are amazing!
Thank you for lessons and hello from Russia ;)
Totally better than any comedy channel anywhere!!! Hilarious!
That pipe job looks at an Urtra Bass Tuba! Something PDQ Bach would love!
Your caveman sheet metal fab skills are awesome!
Brilliant as always! Mad science is the best science!
Love your way of working out problems col.
Somewhere there's a video of him using a pulse jet to clear snow off his driveway, but I can't find it. Does anyone know what it's called?
*****
Thanks! I've looked everywhere for it.
This guys attitude is great. So crazy with positive
Gettin shit done
This is what you call dedication
absolutely crazy but so funny got to have a go of making a turbo jet engine soon
its on my channel i even made one without using a welder
colinfurze
Keeping posting videos
You should be made an honorary Fellow of the iMechE..Top work!
I must say, this guy has a really good taste in music, not just because of this video, he's done a perfect job of selecting music for all of his videos.
I have no massive gas torches but your right it would have been easier
this chanel is the coolest ever honestly i just laugh so much
not quite but it will attached to something of equal febleness so stay tuned
now that you have better tools and equipment maybe revisit the pulse engine project ??
that would be cool but they have a very small budget n timeframe hence why we went with the pitbike noit the DRZ motor and plus you boys are engine tuners i'd smashed lol.
I love your channel dude, keep up the good work!
Well done young man! Love the fact you never give up - you've got that all important stubbornness Ha ! - this is what my lads been tying to build ! - ha ! Well done fella !
He is the backyard inventor! You could probably build some mad shit with this guy around
Good to hear that Steve! I'm more the writer and woods-builder though. Plus the occasional arrow-building.
He's like a real tony stark.
Gotta give you credit for the badass welds when you were bending that. I am impressed :P
So many things could go wrong hahaha! You're the man!!
this guy has an amazing skill set,,,,,very cool...
you have lots of tools some that have never seen but love how easily you get work done with them but for this project am surprised how come you don't have a rolling machine
It was a real fun to watch your engineering :)
Subscribed.
wow just discovered this channel, best ever!
ROFL dude you are nuts, in the best possible way. Love your videos, hope you don't explode too soon!
What kind of substances do you have in your coffee every morning?! Tell me, I want them, too ;)
Try something like meth?
RICH BUTTERY SUSTANANCE
Passion
Pervertin I guess :D
He drinks the milk of success
Buddy, I've been watching your videos for a good looooong time now. Just came back to this one to get some inspiration on building a rocket sled here in Canada. Hope the tunnel/bunker is working out well 🤘 might be a good time to build a zeplin next and come over this way for a visit 🤷♂️
Coming from Florida, America here, what type of sheet metal is that.
The force is strong in that spot welding!!!
How precise do the measures of the pulse jet need to be to keep it running and not stop after one ignition?
man you're damn good at making awesome stuff, this clearly makes you my favorite FFF host!
just heat the steel sheet??
With what? a 6' x 4' oven? Cold rolling, although an utter pain in the arse will give better results. And you can actually touch what your trying to form. This guys crazy as it gets but he's not stupid.
that's not what cold rolling means. and even a heat gun will soften the steel without annealing it. And no he's definitely not stupid.
Sorry my mistake, Cold forming is what I meant. Anyway, Id seriously doubt a heat gun would provide enough heat to make the metal more malleable. once you've heated 1 end, by the time you've heated the other end sufficiently, your starting point would be too cool to make any difference.
meh - guess we'll never know. Lookin at how much he was struggling, I probably would have considered licking the steel if I thought it'd help.
Propane torch? Acetylene torch? Look up the video of Jessie James building a stainless steel bike.
Was just about to ask if you had a roller... then I read the description. Stuff swinging on that sheet!!!
Why not try to build an ultralight aircraft powered by this monstrosity?
Pretty sure it does not output enough thrust... somehow. :-/
Was thinking the same, wonder thrust to weight ratio? Thinking it’s too heavy
Pulse Jet paramotor?
@Quirin M. Maybe a engine to start off.
that metal bender and roller and plasma cutter sure were worthy invesments!
man im glad you upload a video after a while maybe (suggestion) have your next video trying to wheelie or catwalk your "fastest scooter"! :D
Think I would have spliced a wedge into at tube to form the cone maybe:) good to see you getting bigger and better!!
Colin trying to bend stainless should be it's own video!
I used to enjoy arc welding in high school shop class.
I could never believe they let us use something like that, basically, unsupervised. I was only about 15 and I got to MELT METAL with ELECTRICITY.
what gauge of stainless were you bending?
Ok first of all you are a mad scientist also good job at getting on tv twice!!!!😉
That moment at 2.55 where you drink a brew and just stare at it and wonder what to do next - thats me at some point in everything I ever try and make. This is classic Furze, before all the laser cutters and "proper" engineering tools, just trying to bodge something together with basic tools and little planning.
I love the shot of you just kneeling before the sheet metal god, defeated and drinking milk.
May I know which gas is to be used here for combustion. Pls let me know as early as possible . Coz I've planned to do this as my project work in my college
Does it matter which size all the parts have and if it does, which proportions ?
is that bow usefull?
does it have a point for it to work?
You're like a British Adam Savage from Mythbusters, but better. And more British. (yeah sorry if you've heard this before). Keep making stuff!
2:01 this guy trusts his equipment..... props on that
