Search him up if you want to see custom made jet engines: Игорь Негода
This type of engine isn't the best for afterburning, jet aircraft get away with this because a sizeable amount bypasses the burner and is used for thrust, giving the afterburner much more oxygen for the fuel to actually burn as well as additional mass that it can transfer energy to.

That temp gauge is legit... what’s your oil temp, it’s a cow
As long as it stays in the cowish zone he's good. That's common knowledge in the jet turbo scooter community :))
it refers to it being 'cowin' hot!
"Don't have a cow, man."
----Bart Simpson----
As long as it doesn't go into the chicken range... if it does, you're plucked.
That's why any turbo fan engines on planes are fitted in a cowling of course. Duckling would not suffice!
You need following improvements to get maximum trust out of the thing - next to the much needed afterburner:
a) you need to take the vibrations off the turbo (not good for the connections and weldingpoints, pretty sure that caused that problem in the end of the video)
b) you need to add a fan (think "turbofan" from airliners) in front of the turbo (connected to it), causing more air being pushed into the turbo, thus creating more trust, and even more trust by the air the fan pushes along the turbo AND it would also help keeping the "engine" cool, making it more durable and possible to "run it hotter"!
c) this thing is INSANE!! you need to build this thing in series because I WANT ONE :-)
I trust you are right
no
A turbofan is a good idea, but in real engines, the fan is powered by a second set of turbines on their own shaft separate from the compressor. To get that to work here, he'd have to basiclly build an entire engine from scratch.
The first part is correct. It does need some rubber motor mounts and some better suspension.
However, a cooling fan is useless when doing anything more than idling.
If you're moving, the air will be far better for cooling , than anything a fan could do.
If the fan where to produce thrust, yes it would cool far better than just the wind.
But no, you cant really add a fan just like that to a turbojet.
Colin is a Health and Safety man’s worst nightmare! Love him!
I still can't tell whether he never asks "What can possibly go wrong?" or whether he sincerely wants to find out.

Sorraaaaaaaay =) I really hope he sees this comment ! You can post it on the next video, that way if he doesn't see this one, he might see yours !
thats not a compound turbo and it would make no sense. it would be a loss of energy.
This isnt a diesel engine. That wouldnt work at all.
Hendrik Granna, you mean sticking turbos end on end of different sizes is not a compound turbo ?
Richard Fergusson, I was merely suggesting an idea not necessarily linked to a jet engine.. Colin has built a few vehicles that don't have jet engines (Granted not that many XD)
That seems safe. I'd totally give it a go.
You need an oil cooler my dude

@@colinfurze I'm no expert but it depends on the weight of the oil. I would heat some up to your running temperature and eyeball the viscosity. If it's watery, then you probably have too much heat

Run Nitros Oxide in the afterburner stage. Adding oxygen to the exhaust and combusting more fuel will send it flying! And the advantage of No2 is that it cools down the mixture before its ignited, so it would keep you jets nozzle from melting.
We are all still waiting for the afterburner
3:05 Dat sounded like a jet or a plane flying or taking off xD.
Greetings from Russia ! canal super ! good mood to all !
you should instal a heat exchanger for the oil, mount a mishimoto fan to it. User a turbosmart OPR to regulate the oil pressure and let that pump run at a constant speed. Make a high pressure circuit hooked up to a scheid diesel water methanol pump. run straight methanol in a nozzle injected into to where the exhaust stream is. you could make a special nozzle for it that is rated for the heat.

All these people nagging about wearing a helmet. Really!?!? He's got a propane tank not even 3 feet away from a turbine operating at a bit of a cow temperature. If something went wrong, do you think a helmet is going to help?
Yeah if he fell.
so true. People parachute with helmets. Hitting your head is the least of your worries when you're jumping off a plane and heading toward the ground at hundreds of kph afterall !
It would catch some of the bits.
I’m more worried about that tarmac than his build...
if you get a partial failure of the parachute, you will have a rough landing and having a helmet helps when hitting the ground at 30km/hour (something like 20 miles/hour).
These are the kinda lads that’ll save us from the zombie apocalypse
What a crazy guy! No helmet, no protective clothing, sheer balls!
Colin i have and idea for the oil feed on the turbo.
when building high horsepower track or drag cars you would sometimes depending on the application, use a high pressure oil pump on the turbo feed to help with oil temperature and also component temps, if fitted with a oil cooler this helps tremendously as well. this could take the stress off the components. just a theoretical idea haha. if it works for 1000hp drag and track cars it should work for a turbojet haha.
this one is normally used as a feed to the engine block oil feed but you could get your hands on the radiator at lease and make your own A/M lines.
images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51zdoL5eX1L.jpg
love the videos.
It doesn't look like the problem was oil temp, but rather leaking seals. Therefore a high pressure oil pump would worsen the problem, not fix it.
@@Tornadic_Outlaw Hmmm true. But oil seals tend to leak as well when subjected to extreme heat. Defiantly right a high pressure pump may make it worse, but like I said it's a theory. R&D is needed I'm just spitballingideas here haha
CAR AND MTB I think what he really needs is a turbo with a water cooled center-section. Oil doesn’t transfer heat that well. He probably has one, just needs to plumb it up
ah yhere i didn't think of a water cooled turbo that would work
Hope you never burn your leg on that. You're definitely going to need hearing aids after riding that.
Why would he have aids after riding this?

Maybe heat shields using aerogel.. soundeadener also..
@@garystinten9339 you'll just melt your setup if you do that. A heat shield may protect you from burns in the case of contact, but you still want to dissipate that heat away. What you're proposing is effectively insulation.
