1974 backpacked Mt Whitney on January 1st, with minimal gear for 4 days. Long story short, plan ahead, use cold weather gear, prepare for for worst. Sleeping was awesome, down sleeping bag, down booties and one man tent with Louis L'Amour western, whiskey and flashlight (remember 1974). What a awesome trip 47 years ago, now 78.
Stinks you couldn't make it all night but with the house 30 min. away you made a smart move. Here's what I prefer to take along- a space blanket, and the best sleeping bag you can afford with a rating way colder than what you think you will ever need. Sleep with no clothes on and let the bag do it's job. FWIW I've never camped any colder than about 15-20 deg. F. but it was under a lean-to, no tent and a nice fire near my feet. Enjoy the channel as always, live and learn right? Looking forward to your next attempt!
My sleeping bag is a 0° bag but I feel like I would have been fine warmth wise, the drifting snow would have had ne stranded for a while. It was fun any way. Thanks for the advice and thanks for watching.
I do moto camping with my dual sport. I usually don't go camping in the winter because I hate cold weather.... Once I took my truck and was able to bring a generator and a space heater, it worked well, it was 28° outside.
This is what makes your channel stand out! You do very cool stuff, and always tell the truth. These days, deception is everywhere. I said it before and I’ll say it again, you video, I’ll watch! I’m never disappointed. Let us know if the blanket was drawing too much electric or the power supply was faulty. Thanks for taking us along.
It's always a good idea to go with the "GUT FEELING"! I am one that tries to listen to those feelings. I do appreciate the fact that you didn't try to "coat it over" so to speak, and told the truth about your inner most feelings. I know you will be back doing these kinds of things in the future, and I will always watch your excellent video's!
I agree with New t30, I wouldn't rely on propane heaters or heated blankets, gotta get the right sleeping bag and a sleeping pad with a high enough R value .... or get a hot tent and burn wood in the stove all night. Cool vid.
Winter camping is great! But then again I live in south Florida..... you my friend need better friends, ones that won’t watch you freeze to death on RUclips. A for effort though! Most will never challenge themselves to these extremes to know how to survive in case their house isn’t 30 minutes away. Good on you! Love the videos.
with military surplus clothing, level 7 gear which is real cheap compared to name brands and much better. Paired with your heat buddy and a proper insulated mat you should have survived.
Never totally rely on Technology. Get yourself a 0° sleeping bag and some handwarmers. When it’s really cold out put the handwarmers inside your sleeping bag and you’ll be toasty warm.

Down sleeping bag will keep ya warm in a tent. But, the blanket is almost certainly drawing too many amps for that power bank.

Ya, a hot tent would be sweet. That's definitely on the short list. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing! Was the Mr. Heater Buddy not working?
It worked but due to the size of the tent it would not run for long before it shut its self off. Thanks for watching man.
Good call. Go with the GUT FEELING. We all need to learn this side also. Stay Safe.

himalaya sleeping bags.....! but, comon sense is important and saves situations. !
Propane heater Batteries will not work well in the cold Stick to propane
Did you not have the little buddy heater? Could that not have kept you home?
The space was too small. It would run for about 10 min and shut off.
👍
You have a buddy heater......:.........................
Yep. It would for about 10 minutes and shut off. Too small of a tent for it to run properly. ..................
@@rockymountainbackcountry1588 my ice tent is smaller. Just vent your door and you’re golden
