They ask for your email and phone number then keep sending you unwanted messages if you haven't logged in to their site for a few days. Facebook and Instagram also re-order your messages. So you'll be waiting for a reply from a friend, and they do reply, but its hidden to make you stay anticipating it and watching their adverts in the meanwhile.

Where information which has passed through the entity about users, indicates that the users are involved in illegal activity then the entities themselves must make all information about these users available to the police in the country where the user is residing and in the country where the illegal activity occurred. The fact that entities like Facebook are not UK entities at the top levels cannot be used as a legal escape route if they have users in the UK.
