All I could think was PLEASE PET STAR 😂😂😂😂 My kitty, Haru, is absolutely in love with mt plants, she protects them and stares at them (never bites them or bumps them over). She also absolutely lost it when I pruned some of the leaves, she was so upset she fetched my husband, constantly tried putting herself between me and the plant and when I finished she went to check on them every few minutes refusing to let me anywhere near them 😂😂😂😂 It was the cutest thing... Plants and Cats are a beautiful thing
I know this is an older video for you but as I'm not a Hoya person I didn't watch this when you first posted it. My variegated compacta grows like a weed, but I keep it in a room close to a south facing window. And every few weeks I'll give it a small spray of orchid fertilizer. Its blooming now 4 me

I’ve started using systemic granules on my plants to help prevent infestations. I also treat all my plants once a week with a homemade insecticidal soap (Ivory dish soap mixed with water) As they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It has worked well on all my houseplants outside…namely keeping the aphids at bay. I hate those things!!! I recently got a Piper and about a week after getting it home it was covered in aphids! Despite my best efforts to keep them away. Guess I need some lady bugs!
I used to use them but I swear it made my spider mites go crazy. Sorry about the aphids! I haven’t really had to deal with those before 🥲
@@plantsbymelissa they have a formula now specifically for houseplants. Not sure if that makes a difference but maybe the formulation is a bit different? I’d have to check the label, but I am not sure mites are one of the pests granules control. It does work on thrips and aphids for sure. Pests are such a hassle! I want to try some ladybugs, but not sure the hubby would be a fan of them flying around the house, LOL.

Would love an update on your compacta after a couple weeks. I have some large Lowes/Home Depot Hoyas that need repotting. Last large hoya I repotted was a heritage carnosa and she almost died. Now I have several of them to put back together into one pot

I despise mealybugs worse than most other pests. Neem oil takes care of them but it can take some time. Also I haven’t experimented much with other brands of slow release fertilizer but I swear by osmocote plus for basically everything. I think dynamite makes good fertilizer too but I don’t use it. Im new to Hoyas so I have no idea how much nutrients they really need and what they will take up readily.

Star is so cute!! ❤ We have a farm kitty that's really rubby like that. I love it. 😂 When you find bugs, do you worry about cross contamination through the soil or your tools? Or is that not something to worry about? I found spider mites on a newly repotted Ivy and felt like I needed to toss the soil mix in my bin because I filled the pot with it sitting in the bin. Luckily I only had a little bit in the bin.
Thank you! She's the cutest! I think I worry more about touching in between plants and spreading them that way. I'm such a leaf petter! I don't really worry about my soil getting spider mites but I don't think they would live very long without feeding on a plant. If it gives you peace of mind then toss it!

I just found mealies on my pubicalyx yesterday. Yuck. There were just a few but my poor plant got an alcohol spray bath in the sink
I have fungus gnats so so bad right now. I thought it was because I put too much worm castings in my first try at a soil mix But now I'm thinking maybe it's because I have all of my favorite plants in the sol soil super chunky mix. I'm trying to let all my plants dry out this week So I can use peroxide on the soil because two weeks so far of mosquito bits has done absolutely nothing. 😢 I'm so sad

Out of curiosity why repot with fresh soil opposed to not disturbing the plant and just using soil additives for a soil boost?

i recently got a hoya and it had been cut at each new growth point and it hasn't shown any signs of new growth. Do you think it will grow eventually, I'm still new to hoyas. Love all your vids ♥

In regards to your Hoya Compacta. I feel like I need to repot all my hoya when i get them home because they pot them in that peat and I've actually killed/overwatered quite a few hoya because of it. How do you water it when its in that peat mix?
I tend to neglect them honestly. I underwater my hoyas a lot. I usually wait until I see wrinkling or softening of the leaves then I give it a good soak. It seems to work this way for me!
Are stratum roots more similar to soil roots or water roots? You're giving me the motivation to pot up my stratum props. I've been so scared to put em in soil.
Definitely more like soil than water. I’ve had pretty good success moving to soil from stratum ☺️
@plantsbymelissa do you think its too much stress to pot up a plant, stratum to soil and then make a cutting to propagate? Its like 6 leaves long.
Do your cats have an outside enclosure or do they just stay in your yard?
Just on the patio and it’s enclosed. I don’t trust what’s out there because we have hawks and alligators and I would I worry something would happen to them 😭

I’ve given up on most of my Hoya, just couldn’t get most of them to do anything😢
Light has helped mine grow so much and maybe check for broad or flat mites if they seem stunted. They’re really tiny so you need a microscope to see them and they love hoyas!

Wait baby leaves mean peduncles are coming?
Sometimes I have a vine grow in that already has a peduncle forming but the plant usually has them growing already. But new leaves coming in are just new little leaves ☺️
