I’ve ran Santa Gertudis, Beefmasters, and crosses. I believe the Angus were the craziest in the pens. I have used kids, dogs, and horses to get them up for working. Finally wised up and use a feed bucket. That works best for me. Always enjoy your videos.

He sure has some good pens to work them in, and he needs them too. I had a dog about as good as his. His favorite spot was in the middle of the gate. I had a couple of cows that would fight you when they had a baby. Old Butch would go check out the baby calf and when the cow chased him, he came right to me with the cow close behind. I had to crawl a fence a time or two.
My dog suddenly can't hear when she's around cows.
You are amazing having a farm in where you live. I grow up in the farm in the Philippines with cows, goats and pigs so I can relate and miss my place where I grew up. Thank you for sharing.

Just started watching you , loving the videos. To heck with the folks that didn't like the abscessed tail, I love watching stuff like that . Got some good looking charolais there hope theres some heifers amongst them as they will be good replacement heifers but the brahma croses were a bit crazy
Back years ago I raised Beefmasters , I thought they were rough . Man they didn't hold a candle to your Tiger Stripes. Have to be tough,fast and young. Stay safe!!

Maybe if you ever get time ... you could take Buster in to someone that trains herding dogs and the two of you could learn basic signals and commands. Buster could be a big help with a little direction. Anything you can do to make it easier on yourself. Not a hater.
I agree. Buster understands what needs to happen, but maybe not how best to do it. Herding is hard to learn, imo.

I hear ya. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to carry a new born calf a half mile in the snow because it was frozen. I would put every cow in a corral I thought was going to calve and get three or four on the outside that didn’t show any signs. I remember one time I was calving where I had no calving shed. Just my fifth wheel. Had the cow calving in the corral not in the straw but in the mud. It was a blizzard. The cow was a mean one and she had the calf right next to the fence. Every time I would try to get the calf she would charge stomping the calf. So I was yelling and screaming at her and she took off to the other side of the corral. Seizing my chance I jump in picked the calf up. She was already on her way back. I had a portable feed bunk in the middle that I ran too. I was in that bunk for about twenty minutes when she went on the other side. I had the calf and ran in the mud leaving my boots there. Got the calf in the trailer. I got around back to the bunk and got my boots. I had open the front side door of the trailer and she chased me into the trailer. Went out the side door and locked it and then closed the rear door. I hated that cow but she would raise the biggest calves.
Stories like this that people don’t see! I truly understand. After all that work it makes you feel a little good inside for what you’ve done. Risking our well-being for theirs. Gotta love it 👍

Can give you just a little hint? If you try get them calfs running on to the trailer in that chut, don't try to push them by standing behind them. The easiest way to get them running is to just walk against the direction they are supposed to go (walk from head to tail). By walking along them calfs they will take off on their own. Try it out and it will make life a little easier. But otherwise very nice video, pretty exciting to watch.
Life is full of ups and downs on a farm, especially in Texas. I watch a farmer called 'Tom Pemberton Farm Life' here in the UK and he has Cows.. You might enjoy his channel in comparison. Love your videos.

Is there a reason you don’t have a drafting gate on your race leading up to the crush? In my experience makes sorting cattle a whole lot easier and once the cattle know which way they are going they just keep heading that way. Better than putting them in a pen then trying to get them to go back the way they came. Just curious, you keep doing you but I reckon you could make the whole experience easier on yourself.
lol As soon as you mentioned that most ppl have no idea about all of the times/weather/dangers/conditions/environments, etc. that you guys are out in, reminded me of something that happened a few weeks ago! My Granddaughter is 4; my son & DILOVE (I don't use 'in law' label!) are AMAZING parents! My son was tested for the 'gifted program' in Kindergarten!! I didn't even know that was a thing! My DILOVE is incredible!! And, that's coming from a MOTHER IN LAW!lol. She's a HS Ag. teacher & FFA sponsor!! Anyway, when I say their daughter is 'smart,' I don't mean just counting to ten or knowing her colors!lol. This child can IDENTIFY PLANTS!! DISSECT A PIG UTERUS!! lmao. Anyway, a few weeks ago, she was being a turd & got in trouble, or my DILOVE told her NO about something! She told my DIL that she was 'being mean,' so she was gonna lock herself in her bedroom for the rest of the night!! My DIL asked her how she planned to eat supper!! She said "Well, you'll just order it online, push a button, then TA-DAA! IT'LL SHOW UP AT MY DOOR!!" lmao. So, apparently, getting a burger is NOT as HARD as you all make it out to be!!lol. Just push a button & TA-DAA! lol

as far as being reliable
in breeding back...is the Braford or the Brangus your best cattle for your farm...this is a city guy who works in the hospital who lives the adventures thru you (asking this question)...
That’s a good question! They are all pretty reliable in breeding back. As far as which makes the best calf is a good debate. This year we’ve had some good calves come off the brangus/angus cross cows with the charolais bulls. The Hereford bulls on the other brangus produced some pretty nice calves as well so it’s really tough to say! Lol thanks for watching.

Agreed, invest in a really well trained cattle dog to handle cattle with temperment like theirs. That dog (buster) should stay at the house.

If you use two pulleys and two ropes and stand behind Bubby at home away from cattle you can teach him right and left on voice commands

Great video. That’s the major downside to Brahman influence cattle. I’m a registered angus operator and I appreciate the docility of the angus.
There is a lot to be said about how they are raised and worked as young cattle and how you go about working with them. If you want to see how Brahmans can be on a shoestring budget check out a couple of my cattle working videos.

In very surprised there wasn’t any that tried going vertical! There were a few times I thought they were gone try it but never did. Fine looking stock though nonetheless!

yep, with ear you never know. I was a 4-H leader in Arizona and after the 70's was hard to find anything without ear. One rancher we got calves from had F-1 cows and had Limousin bulls, everyone of the calves jumped the pens that first night most were tough clear to the country Fair.

We are from mn always get western cattle in was wondering if u wanted to sell
When I use to work cattle, we would roundup aa thousand at a time at the Farris cattle co. We used horses to pen them. We would brand, casterate, and vaccinate all at he same time, There would be 25 guys and gals working these cattle . We had fire brands, and used pocket knives to casterate. A lot of the time it would turn out to be a real rodeo. I enjoyed roping, branding and casterating calves. It was ruff and tumble.

@@TheFarmGuy This was west of Willis Texas, on a 4,000 acre ranch and was in the early 70's. I worked my way through college and this helped pay for some of my education from Sam Houston State College. I did this every summer and had a great time doing it.
Tiger stripes are some crazy bitches.Them suckers are a pain when we work them at the sale barn.One time we had 5 or 6 head bits out and go running down main street

North Texas. I’d say the charolais calves do pretty dang good. We’ve had more of them come out looking like show calves rather than the black ones but still.

Hi. You have NICE and WELL looked after livestock. I lived in TX and unfortunately have seen some animals in poor shape to say at least.
Thank you. I have seen that as well. These cattle are on some amazing grass pasture that we can even cut and bale and still have an adequate amount of forage!
Brother you will never be able to bridge the disconnect between farm and suburban life. Kids now a days have no idea where meat comes from let alone the work to produce it. Great video anyway lol.
