  • We had a cow in one of our pastures that raised a great calf, but got very aggressive when she had a calf. We have tolerated her for a few years but decided it was finally time to send her on down the road.

Cow is what I call an old school cow, what I was raised with back in the day. Todays cows are new school cause you can walk right up to their babies & they could care less

Most of ours are like that. Don’t mind if you walk up to their calves. I guess we still have a few old school cows thought because some of them don’t want you around their baby.

We live on a small farm in Ky. I am a retired machinist. We have had pretty good luck with chickens. We just fenced in 8 acres and have been working on getting the pasture ready. A guy on a nearby farm had a cow for sale that would not let her first calf nurse so we got a good deal on her. She is not a friendly cow and I really don’t trust her. I don’t have any experience with cattle so your video was a eye opener. We were thinking about having her bread back in June but I am not sure now if this would be a good idea. She might be headed to the butcher this fall. LOL

Sometimes when they get bred and have a calf they will calm down. Other times they go the other way. If she’s all by herself I’d recommend getting another cow to go with her. A lot of times being alone can make them act crazy

Dang! We have had/have mean cows, but they always calm down and they never ran us out of the pen unless we were messing with their calf. At least we could get in the pen and move them around. I do have to say, get yourselves some sorting sticks. Good stout ones. Then when a calf/yearling challenges you, like the red tagged calf, you can smack them HARD on the side of the nose. Make sure it is the nose and not the top of the head, they can ignore that. Notice I didn't say do that to the cow. If you miss the nose or aren't fast enough with the stick ......ummm yeah, not pretty. 🤔🥺

    • @FarmerHunt

we’ve never had one like her before. We’ve had them get upset if we catch their calves to tag or work them, but never charge us for being around them.

Cows like her are bossy by nature and have learned that they can bully people as well as other cows. As for the other cows living in fear: They have no idea where that cow is headed and they don't care! Not one of those other cows will look for her or even notice.
