If you print in abs instead of pla you can soak the peices in acetone and they will become smooth(er) it won't be perfect but it will help a lot. Although if you did this you might want to build an enclosure for your printer because abs is more heat sensitive.
3D Great video, when you do manage to make a speed cube I'll try to buy it! My Favorite song is: All I Want For Christmas Is CUBES! (by TNL cubing) I know you read these comments and I hope I win, as it would be great for my Videos!💪🤞
I know the title says you want to just make a speed cube from scratch, which is cool enough on its own. But in the video you do talk about wanting to make something better than a gan cube. That’s an interesting goal, but what are your plans to get there? To make something even on par with a gan cube? Of course there is a lot of room for your to improve, but I’m interested in what the plans are which make you think you could improve this to the point where it competes with the best speed cubes out there. Also if it’s possible, you should consider a resin 3D printer. Even if you don’t get one of your own, see if there is anyone you can use for a later prototype, you could get something a lot smoother.
To fix your issue with the center piece. Redesign the screw slot's stem to be skinnier than the spring so that the spring goes around the whole thing while the screw can still enter it. That should fix your entire issue.
i love watching these cause usually its not that good of a youtuber that makes these sorts of videos but cause you have expereince it makes it very enjoyable to watch
There are flexible magnetic surfaces that you can use to make it easier to take parts off after you finish printing. Also, before you commit to metal molds for the final design, maybe consider trying to make a smaller first run on resin printed molds after you're done iterating on FDM printing. They don't last nearly as much as metal molds, but they're WAY cheaper, which means if something didn't go as planned, the financial setback of having to make new molds will be way smaller than if you went straight to metal and faced a similar issue.
i would probably sand down the insides and "polish" the outsides normally, how i would polish my cubes is press it down hard on a piece of a4 paper and rub each side 5 to 10 minutes, but by taking in consideration that it is *3D* printed, i think it might be too fragile my favourite song has to be iridescent from linkin park, quite a chill song, helps me sleep if i cant for whatever reason, and for some reason, the only song that doesn't cause me to mess up clock memo
Pretty interesting. If you want ideas, something that I saw on cubes it's that the layer that you turn ups a bit while turning for less friction. I don't know if it's something on the internal part of the piece or if it's a curve aiming to the corner with the center pointing to them to push it a bit when turns. Also something similar can happen if you print a the pieces where they touch with a bit curve or concave form to just touch the perimeter of the pieces to less friction.
"3D" I recommend you to sand down the pieces of the cube so it can be smooth for turning. (Use sand paper to sand it) Also use some inspiration from other cubes for the parts. My favorite song is never gonna give you up
Thank you sir! will use sandpaper once I get it working good with springs and all, but dont want to waste a ton of time on it if im just going to print a new one! and will do, I may do this for the core, but I want the cube to be entirely original, so doing what I can to (not) be inspred from other cubes lol!!! but more taking the best thing from each brand
3D, before making a whole other version I would sand down the pieces and re make the center pieces to fit the springs better, then but lube in it and see how it turns out.
It is tough, but if you force yourself to use RHINO for a few hours, it is a lot easier to get used to... I am only good at it because I use that software as an architect
thats a really good video im exited to see the future episodes also mabye try using some fine sandpaper to sand the peices to stop them getting stuck on eachother 3D
My only 3x3x3 is a GAN cube I am getting I new cube soon that’s a 3x3x3 and I have a 2x2x2 witch is not GAN and the cube I am getting soon is a yoo cube made by cubehead it’s a yoo cube 2 deluxe
This is good I’ll thing of some tips to help I don’t see any mistakes rn but you could try different filaments like different plastic types and or print the pieces in two colors with notches and holes to make it potentially easier
3D I think I will be a good idea to make moulds for the final version and use a more solid plastic instead of 3d printing it. I would also recommend a pattern for lube distribution. Fav song is still We Fell In Love In October by Girl in Red
Thats the plan, molds all the way. Im just 3d printing to quickly find what design I like best. but once I get the final product, I can send my 3d software model in to get accurate molds made. And thank you!! once I figure out my piece design, ill add a pattern on the pieces. What cube do you think has the best pattern for this?
@@Opulent_Vision1Well, you need a good mix between good lube distribution, maintaining lube for a long while and it being easily cleanable. I have only had the tornado v2, the gan 356m and the guhong pro. The tv2(lines from the magnets and circles around the magnets) has good distribution, and maintains lube for a long while, but is hard to clean. The 356m(hexagons on piece and torpedo's) is easy to clean, and helps evenly distribute lube on the torpedo's, but will dry up really quickly. The dayan guhong (a few squigly lines) maintains lube for a long time and has good dustribution, but I haven't ckeaned it yet so idk how easily it cleans. I think how deep the patterns are matters more, im not an expert tho. Definitely get some patterns on the torpedo's.
Little tip for 3d printing: Put hairspray or rub a glue stick on the printing plate to stop sticking. This helps the print get off the plate easier. 🙂

Try adding sockets in the foot of the pieces for future core magnets
