So if I'm traveling from brampton to Toronto I don't have to pay an extra fare now is that only for 2 hours or until I go back to Toronto to pay another fare I'm confused 🤔
So you’ll only pay once both ways. Let’s say you go from Brampton to Toronto, that’ll be only one fare no matter how many services you use, as long as the transfer is within the 2 hour period.
It would be even cheaper to not collect fares. Look at the infrastructure and staff required to collect. It would definitely take more cars off the road and reduce costs for the lowest earners to drop fares entirely.
you still have to tap on and off for the transfer to work, like reduced fare from any transit agency to GO and Free transfer from GO to any transit agency.
What am I missing? I'm not from here and have been riding this one fare, way already? Lol if I get on a street car and transfer to a subway, particularly , union subway. I don't have to tap and pay the subway. So does this mean if I pay to take a street car to the subway, I don't have to pay to get in to their subway? Transfers between subway, bus, and streetcar have always been free within that 2 hour window.... The extra cost would be for GO transit and other municipal buses like York region, Mississauga, Brampton transit .. Now all of those are included as 1 fare now within the 2 hour window.
@mpbell3218I imagine this system may backfire in a way for some people living in the northwestern extremities of places like Mississauga or Brampton, who may be tempted to walk relatively long distances if they can't connect with their second Miway\BT buses within two hours if they come from downtown.
@@ALuimesI mean they already had to pay extra for switching between regions. The two hour limit was always a thing within regions anyway. If they weren't already doing it, the probably wouldn't resort to walking.

Funny that people think they're saving money by having the government spend more money....there's no such thing as government....it's all taxpayer money
Provincial taxpayer money being used to subsidize a few cities worth of public transit. I'm sure the people paying taxes everywhere that is not the south Ontario GTA-ish area are pleased as punch to fund the voter base that Ford is buying in advance of the next election.
Everyone knows that the government is funded by taxpayer money, it's not some big secret dude. Instead, people want their taxes to benefit them, which this does. It is much cheaper for everyone to have a good public transit system compared to buying a car, buying gas or charging, paying for parking that car, and not wasting time in traffic to save maybe a few hundred dollars at tax time. Do the math dude, you'll find that funding public transit is much cheaper for almost everyone.
This isn't going to get people to give up their cars....saving seven bucks a day isn't worth giving up your car....I pay enough in taxes, I don't want to subsidize your bus ride....
@@JJUnohu It won't make people give up their cars, but it'll likely reduce the number of pwople making trips using their car. This sounds good but if riders save up to $1600 a year who is going to cover that short fall? Even if it is only a few hundred saved each year there are millions of riders each year that means millions less in fares for GO, TTC etc. Every year they are short money and cry for more so if they have less fare who will cover this short fall? I am going to guess all of us taxpayers. Maybe the people riding the transit should stop taking money out of everyone's pocket and actually pay for the transit they use like the rest of us.
if thats what you want, maybe we should also start charging for parking anywhere in city, cancel all the fuel subsidies, and pay for every road expansion by toll instead of us taxpayers who pay for all of it even though we don't drive. the province and federal government already spends more per car owner to cover the shortfall than it does for transit users.
@@_framedlife 1- we do need to pay for parking everywhere in the city. 2- no such thing as fuel subsidizes. In fact it is the opposite. Half the cost of gas is taxes that is supposed to subsidize public transit (so going to my original point tax payers are already paying to support transit. Why should we pay more) 3- taxes pay for road expansion that public transit also uses. Transit on the other hand not only gets subsides to pay for its expansion it also gets subsides to continue to operate compared to a car owner that needs to pay for the cost and maintenance of their own transportation (insurance, gas, repairs etc) while on top of that funding the subsides to public transit (i.e. the transit user doesn't pay enough in fares to cover the cost of their transit use) 4- show what report states the govt pays more per car owner to cover short falls than it does for transit users? Everyone including transit users use roads (unless you are trying to argue your bus flies). And everyone pays taxes that covers the cost of those roads. Transit users however pay a fare that doesn't cover the cost to run that transit system. The taxpayers have to make up the difference and with this change to fares the taxpayers will need to pay more. Enough is enough. Let transit users start paying for the cost of their own transit like the rest of us do Or are you trying to argue that you pay for a car owners insurance, repairs, gas, car payments etc?
Exactly....it's funny that people think they're saving money by having the government spend more.....there's no such thing as government money, it's all taxpayer money.....this is a political shell game...they will get that money by taxing you somewhere else
A large portion of transit users are people who can't afford their own vehicle. The subsidies are in place to benefit those that need it the most. You're essentially saying that poorer people should be taxed more for using a system that pollutes less and transports more people per vehicle.
Pacman you have to understand roads are subsidized by EVERYONE's income, even for those people who don't own a car. Your gas tax cannot pay paving the roads since the 80s. Look at how many billions of dollars are spent on building, expanding, and maintaining 400-series highways, and you realize funds allocated for public transit is a tear drop. Also, your car (mostly single occupant) takes more space per person, damages more roads, than a 30-person bus at capacity, by a long shot!

It would be even cheaper to not collect fares. Look at the infrastructure and staff required to collect. It would definitely take more cars off the road and reduce costs for the lowest earners to drop fares entirely.
Still more complicated than the Great Montreal transit fare program...
so do I still need to tap on and off in go transit ???! or one fare works fine for 2 hours ??? pls reply
you still have to tap on and off for the transfer to work, like reduced fare from any transit agency to GO and Free transfer from GO to any transit agency.
UPEXPRESS part of this deal too?
OCTranspo it’s now your turn… it shouldn’t cost 4 dollars for 4 hours of transit ffs
More funding for public transit please. More cars and urban sprawl are not the way forward. For our wallets, and the environment!
One fare program works in MiWay monthly pass in transfer with TTC??
But very expensive monthly compared to Montreal the best city in Canada
I have free pass in Durham region, does that mean I can travel free of cost in all these ?
What am I missing? I'm not from here and have been riding this one fare, way already? Lol if I get on a street car and transfer to a subway, particularly , union subway. I don't have to tap and pay the subway.
So does this mean if I pay to take a street car to the subway, I don't have to pay to get in to their subway?
Or if I pay to take a street car to the go train, I don't have to pay the go train?
@@Ash_Wen-liMy point is that before you could always reach your destination in Peel once you paid the double fare at Islington or VMC. It was only an issue if you came all the way from Markham or Newmarket on YRT.
But if you came from downtown (and are too poor or cheap to take GO which costs more than two city transit fares) and you live at Wanless and Creditview in Brampton, you might walk from the Zum stop at Mount Pleasant GO to avoid a second fare after two hours.
What about the transit pass
Isn't PRESTO good enough?
It’s about time😂
I'm never getting out of my car. Too many damn weirdos on public transport. I don't feel safe anymore.
okay then so what you’re not the primary target or market for this change, why even bother sharing
I think the theory is, if price goes down, riderships goes up, revenue goes up. More revenue to fund more security services
A lot of people doesn't even pay at GO Transit and TTC 🤷🏻♂️
More people pay then don’t…

As someone who lives in Ontario but not in the GTA I love the idea of paying for transit for those in the GTA. Maybe it could be free.
Yes, and yours too
The GTA generates the lion's share of revenue in the province, which funds the sidewalks and roads in your little town.
Shouldn't this be titled India
Can we get reimbursed for years ? :);
More Taxes - on the payroll
NO NO NO
🦎you can save 15% or more with Geico🦎
I don't have to spend $12 a day anymore lol about time

is this one-fare system already in place? like as of this comment?
yes
@@TheRandCrewsthank you, i saw on go bus they said something like one-fare, too bad i still have to tap on and off go bus, and it's not a fixed fee
It's actually of no use... Lost of us use monthly TTC pass and there is no offer on that when you change trains... Hence we will still be paying full GO Train fees.. Only benefits the 5% population who don't use monthly pass..
good start
So who is going to make up the lost revenue? All these wages and fuel have to be paid for some how.
lost revenues will come in the first phase of implementation for it will change transit patterns of commuters leading to different routes fluctuating in amount of riders either needing to be increased, decreased, improved, rerouted, or redesign for better catchment. Practically just testing out new changes
@@TheRandCrews Thanks for the reply. From my experience governments aren’t very good at handling their money, but very good at handling ours.
I thought doug ford died
Woohoo
Thank you Ontario Conservatives.
The ttc board looks like a bunch of DEI hires
1600$ a year wtf? 😂 so expensive. In Montreal we have a fixed fare system. That means monthly pass, unlimited use. I only pay $1116 a year. That is insane 😂 not to mention it 3.75$ for one ticket to ride any commuter train, bus, metro (subway) or light rail across the entire island of Montreal with a 2 hours transfer window.
Also you say you don't want to fund other people's publuc transit yet want everyone else to fund your road and highway expansions? And your gas station infastructure? And your road repairs?
@@TheAircool1 This is a perfect response! I couldn't have said it better myself! Seriously, thank you for helping me fight misinformation and logical fallacies!
I will keep driving my car until the crazy people crackheads are gone from TTC and the unreliable delays are resolved. Until that, I will take the burden of driving my car. Public transportation in Toronto is a joke.
Thank you government Canada. Mr Ford is powerful help peoples low income . Thank you All your help us. Save money living is going good life. Good hearh and can buy food more happy life. Thank you Mr Ford.
Driving is better, who wants to deal with people all day.. ugh 😩 💀
Yet TTC is still dirty, messy, smelly and full of weird people that puts everyone on their toes.
defund the cbc
@@_framedlife
1- we do need to pay for parking everywhere in the city.
2- no such thing as fuel subsidizes. In fact it is the opposite. Half the cost of gas is taxes that is supposed to subsidize public transit (so going to my original point tax payers are already paying to support transit. Why should we pay more)
3- taxes pay for road expansion that public transit also uses. Transit on the other hand not only gets subsides to pay for its expansion it also gets subsides to continue to operate compared to a car owner that needs to pay for the cost and maintenance of their own transportation (insurance, gas, repairs etc) while on top of that funding the subsides to public transit (i.e. the transit user doesn't pay enough in fares to cover the cost of their transit use)
4- show what report states the govt pays more per car owner to cover short falls than it does for transit users? Everyone including transit users use roads (unless you are trying to argue your bus flies). And everyone pays taxes that covers the cost of those roads. Transit users however pay a fare that doesn't cover the cost to run that transit system. The taxpayers have to make up the difference and with this change to fares the taxpayers will need to pay more. Enough is enough. Let transit users start paying for the cost of their own transit like the rest of us do
Or are you trying to argue that you pay for a car owners insurance, repairs, gas, car payments etc?
