Yo Jake. Your technical presentation is excellent, way better than those fluff RUclipsrs like that bald guy who self-promotes himself as a shredder.
Amazon lists this as a $200 guitar. I bought it for $144.99 on 2024-Jan-22 white only.
The closest guitar of decent quality near the sale price of the DMT-100 is a Fesley ST Morandi for $150 but it only has a maple fretboard, which is lame for shredding but OK for pop and country.
One can buy a Jackson JS11 for $160 and with a purpleheart fretboard (excellent for shred) but it only has 20 to 21 playable frets realistically.
The closest comparable guitar also with a hard tail bridge is the Leo Jaymz Monsoon for $240 but that only has a rosewood fretboard, which is OK for pentatonic rock,, pop and country.
So the Donner is $100 less than the next best guitar of its kind while on sale but with better specs!
*You're right Jake, you being an amp guy. *
Sound comes from the speakers amplified from an amp and picked-up from the transducers. So your speaker magnets, power supply, etc., are the source of good sound.
Sticking to the guitar though, it is three things: pick-ups, tuners, strings.
String vibrations are "recorded" by the pick-ups and sent down the wire to the amp. Weak transducers ups mean weak recording.
Tuners are the hardware that holds those strings at consistent tension when strings get excited, i.e., plucked. Lame tuners means inconsistent string tension.
After the electronics and strings, Fretboard wood counts.
Fretboard wood is important because it will affect resonance of an excited string to a degree, but more importantly, will affect a player's skill at legato and vibrato. The harder the wood as measured by the Janka hardness scale, the better to play.
That is why best freboards are made from ebony first, then purpleheart, Indian laurel, bocote, and wenge. The next tier woods for fretboards are jatoba, rosewood, cocobolo, maple. The worst woods are poplar, pine, though some guitar makers have the temerity to sell fretboards from those woods. In spite of beliefs, body material is irrelevant for an electric guitar.
Irrespective of sound, the most important qualities for playing are fretboard wood, neck shape, neck finish, fret type, the number of playable frets and the guitar weight.
Guitar body wood is irrelevant. Scientific studies have shown this to be true.

I've seen other reviews on this guitar but none of them brought up the fact that those pots were on a circuit board. That's important information to know since people tend to mod guitars to their liking. Very thorough. I just subbed to your channel........

    Be cautious!
I've been using this guitar for a week now and absolutely LOVED it, yet I've noticed that there's a major, electronic flaw with it.
After noticing that there's an obvious pick-up sound bleed between the bridge & neck (where the active pickup gets the sound of the inactive one), I've made some changes.
First, I changed the switch, and then I got a new pick-up for the bridge thinking that they might be microphonic, and also shielded the cavities, however, none of them helped. Then I noticed that the connection over the PCB where 2 pots and all the rest are gathered, is just incorrectly designed. It's different than the 4-wire default schematics. To be more precise; the connections on the Volume pot are wrong, lug 1 and lug 2 must be swapped in between, lug 3 is gnd anyway, tone control is also correct.
I've removed the pots from the PCB and mounted them on the guitar directly, made the harness as it should be, and voila, everything is working great!
I don't know how Donner made such a mistake, but god knows how many guitars with this PCB are on sale / sold already.

Great video, convinced me to buy the guitar! I also bought a Seymour Duncan Nazgul bridge pickup and was going swap it by using the white connector and the little prong connectors. I've never done this before and it looks like the Nazgul has a red, white, green, and black wire. Which would I connect to the prongs to go into the connector? Any advice you could give me would be welcome. Thanks!

That’s a really good question man!! But honestly I’d say Jackson js22 just because I do like the necks and bridge pickups on those guitars man

Jackson JS22 is $200. The Donner DMT 100 is $144 right now on AZ.
The JS 22 has a purpleheart fretboard (13,210 N on the Janka scale) , which is made for shred, and surpassed only by ebony.
The DMT 100 has an Indian Laurel fretboard, also very hard (10,390 N) and third best after purpleheart.
The DMT has 22 to 23 realistically playable frets. The JS22 only has 21 to 22.
While both list at $200, you can buy the DMT for $145 new as of this comment.
Likely one needs to spend $350 to $400 to get a much better guitar than the DMT-100 or the JS22.
