- The Hoka Ten Nine is a shoe that was purpose built for running downhill quickly. Or it’s an April Fool’s Day prank gone awry.

In other words… he took it for a test where no one would see him.😂

Never laughed during a running shoe review before, but when you eclipsed the other shoe behind the 10 9, I nearly died 😂
I kept thinking, Get In My Belly!
@@kofuzi 🤣
This the comment that i've been looking for 🤣, i never stop laughing hahaha
Definitely a unique shoe! Thanks for testing it out and sharing with all of us.
Bracket winner! Thanks for trying this on for size. I get that it's an experiment (gag?), but the price just makes it even more ridiculous than it already is.
Thanks for the honest review kofuzi. Safety disclaimers scare me…oh my.
Thanks for the review. I actually got the Hoka TenNine and love it. It has a similar crazy extended heel cushion but ids really a high top hiking shoe. I don’t think that runners would want it but for a hiker like me with back and knee issues it is great. My fav Hoka and hiking shoe is the Speedgoat and Speedgoat Evo which runners do like.
The Ten-Nine is like a concept car, but put in production. It shows of some of the distinguishing Hoka features and their (exaggerated) vision for their shoes. Some of these features will come back in the upcoming models. The heel is … well … ok for a concept car ;-)
Hoka Disclaimer: Using this product for anything other than running may lead to injury, up to and including, death ☠️
Then he immediately says he went on stairs and driving. Lol
Glad we were there to vote for this. Now I want to see more GoPro shots of kofuzi driving.
Half Snow shoe.... half dads weekend lawn mowing shoe, look out Minnesota they have you covered year round
What a giant lovely shoes!! Thank you Mike.. Get well
I don't know about you, but I definitely came here for the Hoka Ten Nine driving review lol
I'm pretty sure this was made for Western states, it's meant for a long non-technical downhill ultra. Also Hoka sponsors western states. The stack height looks really big but they use a "bucket seat" style heel and have foam above and around it to make it more stable.
I can’t believe you drove in it. I would be scared for my life
0:45 I imagine you falling into this river and not sinking but walking on water in those kayaks ;).
takes stand up paddle boarding to a new level
Can you try cutting off the extended heel to see how different it would be (weight, stability, grip, feel etc)?
Hoka: do not do these two things in it. Proceeds to do those two things first lol!! such a weird shoe for sure
In fairness to me, I didn’t know about the warning until after I walked down a flight of stairs and then drove somewhere in them
@@kofuzi 😂
@@kofuzi lol it’s all good just giving a hard time. I wouldn’t of even looked up a disclaimer, should of been added to the box if they wanted people to see it
"I can't say that I didn't 'not like it'" & "The Achilles heal is very 'touchable'" ...that's one way to squeeze out the positives.. 😀
hahaha!
Yo!! Those are some crazy kicks!🤪
I bet those would be awesome for running on hard-packed sand, like along the waterline on Oak Street beach, Michael. ⛱
I can't imagine going down a rocky /loose rock descents. The heel would catch so often. It has to be for buffed out downhill only... Anyone try it on some mountains and feel differently? Seems like Speedgoat 4 would be just fine.
You could post it to Side Show Bob in Springfield, he’s missing a pair 😄
How’s the downhill with those? Great video.
Very weird but great review. I don't think I'll be buying a pair unless I'm joining the circus :)
Bout time. Would love to rock those! Availability is a problem though.
They literally told you not to drive or go down the stairs but you did it anyway. Kofuzi will always bust it down for the review hahahaa 😂
That shoe's a wild scene, man. First Hoka's and Altra's that came out looked odd as well, so who knows.
imagine if, 5 years from now, people will be all like, "these Ten Nine v6's are good, but they're no v1's."
I have these, bought them as soon as they dropped. Every thing K said is true. There good to run in. The ass is not obnoxious to run in, it’s nice actually. With all the width/length there’s lots of grip. The only down fall I’d say is that Hoka doesn’t make every size, I think it’s only full sizes no half, I have a 9 1/2 foot, went with a 10. I have a tiny bit of extra room, not a bad thing tho. Gonna run rim to rim in these bad boys.
I remember a Nike shoe in the 1970s with a sole significantly wider than the upper, especially around the heel. But nothing like this Hoka. 😳
How do you compare to the Clifton edge ?
Well, I only travel light trails so the Hoka Challenger ATR 6 is one I have been happy with. This shoe reminds me of the Clifton Edge with the exaggerated back end. I think we all agree it is a strange looking shoe.
Only goes up to size 13 correct ? And if i could get my size 14 i could use them for swimming as flippers :)
Hoka Tennine, Brooks Aurora are 2 interesting models that have an innovative design for running shoes as i have ever seen. I'm a Brooks user but i really want to try the Tennine for once, but the downside is the price too high for me.
He did it… he did it …
I wonder about the downhill on rocky stuff. I use my heel a lot to brake on downhills and that boat would whack my forefoot down at high speed or spin my foot if I'm at an angle. Rounded heels are better as they are multidirectional IMO.
The heel is cushy, and flexes, lots of grip.
Does it feel like the clifton edge at all?
I'd love to be in the design board room during the inception of the Ten Nine. "OK team. Let's design something SO ridiculous that people think it's an april fools joke... Also, make it $250"
i'm wondering if they rushed the launch date so try and give April Fool's a bit of a wider berth?
LOL! @ "nothing about this looks like it will make sense at all" You are brave to try out a shoe before the day before a race.
somehow, it didn't occur to me that I should avoid trying out this new contraption the day before a race
This is one worth keeping simply because it's so strange. Can pull it out at parties to show people. 😂
Like most everyone, I thought it was a photoshopped joke. It'd be interesting to know what Hoka was thinking or was it simply to make people talk? If so then it's working...
Do not use on stairs.. well that excludes all of the trails I've been on recently.
@kofuzi try the FBR Noa 2 and compare them side by size!
I am living in some old building with steep and narrow stairs. I caught my heels going down stairs wearing nike running shoes with their protruding heels..Can't imagine wearing these..
Worst shoe ever for alpine safety - and I love Hokas. Maybe it’s just me but when you catch a heel on a rocky ledge, you’re taking your life in your hands. And yes I bought them - anything to encourage innovation. But I sure don’t use them anymore after a few alpine falls.
Just bought a pair!
🎼🎵A total eclipse of the shoe🎶🎶🎵
hahahaha!
Just bought some of the hiking boot versions of these. Reviews are pretty outstanding for that use but reading the comments here, runners are not convinced
the hiking version of the Ten Nine has a much more muted heel
Haha these are crazy kicks.
I dig your hat! What is it?
Hoka innovation department late one night before a long holiday and facing a deadline: What are all of the ideas that we laughed at the hardest? Let’s throw them all into one shoe! (Silence and everyone looking at each other) Welp, enjoy the long weekend everyone.
I bought the very first Hoka trail shoes for when I moved to Utah. There was an awesome 2000 ft trail climb that had a option to dirt road descend and basically having to heel strike for 3 miles of 2000 ft drop make Hoka a miracle shoe. I could see this shoe for the same type of thing. Even in CO.
I wear size 7.5us in new balance elite v3,
what size would it be in these?
7.5 or maybe 8. The better proxy would be whether you have experience in a speedgoat
Baby got back!
Not too surprised you are running out in the middle of nowhere in them, I too thought they were joke shoes!!! 🧐
I think they come with an optional paddle for when you use them as canoes!!
@@pentachronic 🛶 paddles at the ready 😜
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes I guess they'll give you that edge on those river crossings right ??
Heck you could use them as fins in a Triathlon too!
😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ you really went on with this 😂😂😂. Mad respect, Mike.
I said I would and so I did
@@kofuzi I was pretty sure that guy who suggested you review the winner of our Ugliest Shoes livestream was trolling or joking. Quite surprised you spent money on this, sir. But like everything else, as long as you had fun, and its a 'unique' YT content and good for the channel, I'll cheers to you 🍻😆.
If those were branded Gucci or Balenciaga and came in black, the hypebeasts would be all over it
Could it be designed for heavy heel striker runners?
No. It’s designed for downhill running.
As crazy as this shoe looks the upper looks pretty solid. I can see a toned down version of this shoe working well. But I wouldn’t want to see the tail longer than the carbon x
peep the hola clifton edge
hoka
I see the edge as a road version of this and also extreme. I was thinking more this upper on a toned down midsole with a trail outsole. Their trail line could use something exciting
@@gregprevite8548 Ohhhhhhhh yeah i like that idea 👍🏽
@@gregprevite8548 a lot of people love the speed goat what do u think they could change in that shoe. Interested to hear your opinion
I think Hoka has been making a prototype of running shoe to be able to run on the water 😅
that's literally wow! 😨
Idk why I died at the GoPro car shot 😭😭
Some dealers are advertising them as hiking shoes over here, already discounted to 150€
I suppose you gotta find a way to move that product
2:31...

Zero f***s given 🤣
The FBR Noa II to run up hill and the Hoka Ten Nine to run back down ✅
Krusty the Clown has 'phoned - he wants his shoes back.
A long distance trail shoe with extra protection for downhills but you can’t use on stairs... do’h! 😱
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Considering the majority of trails in my country have stairs I'm not sure this is a trail shoe? Not sure what Hoka is doing, is like they saw the Hierro and was like oh you wait what we can do 😂
A camera stick question: have noticed that you no longer can see the camera stick in your and other runner's films. How does this work? 😀
360 camera. it's not about the stick.
Driving would be more of an issue if you drive a manual, your heel could get stuck while working the clutch.
But why is that heel there tho? what's hoka's point in putting it there? there has to be a good reason to run in those ridiculous shoes
Blimey, i wouldn't know which way round to wear them 🤣
Can you walk on water with these?
Reminds me of the Balenciaga Triple S exaggerated dad shoe style
Nice 1 idol
Is it lighter than the Ultraboost 21?!
the UB21 is half an ounce lighter
Hilarious!
I wear a size 12. Dear lord, I can't imagine what this shoe would look like in my size. It would be canoe sized!
Does it work for running backwards? Looks like the shoe is the wrong way round hahahah
I wouldn’t even be able to bring myself to put these on.
Try it in the winter on snow.
I bet that shoe can twerk !
How is it called a hiking shoe yet they warn customers not to operate them while using stairs ?? going up and down stairs is similar to hiking up and down mountains hiking trails
I'm not sure that this really addresses your issue, but to clarify one bit of Hoka history here for those that might not be as familiar: the Ten Nine was originally released as a trail running shoe, not a trial hiking shoe.
The heel of the Ten Nine has since shrunk down quite a bit but the idea has been carried on into the Hoka hiking line.
So this shoe and hoka hiking shoes are related, but they are not the same.
When she asks you what's the first thing you noticed about her
A good snow or powdery sand runner??🤔 yeah , I got nothing.....
There will not be a V2 of these shoes. Even if they work, *most* people will not wear them.
Can't lie - they look absolutely ridiculous!!
Like
..... it'd interesting to know much those heel tales weight by themselves ......
This is what happens when hoka shoes get on the steroids.
You could run across lakes and ponds on those weapons.
The Hoka Quasimodo. 😄
My stack height guess was 34mm, so I wasn't too far off!
Nice work!
Isn‘t this shoe just meant to be specifically for downhill racing only?
Not regular running.
It is supposed to be a niche type of shoe for a specific purpose - downhill running.
At least that is what Hoka stated when it was released.
Still doesn‘t change the fact that it is ugly as heck. 😂🙈
My understanding as well, I don't think this is a regular trail shoe.
Good thing you weren’t driving a stick shift car. On the other hand, it might help with the heel-toe technique.
can you imagine if these became suddenly popular in the drift community?
Honestly it looks like Hoka took a look at balenciaga triple s and said “bet” and put it into a running shoe 😂😂😂
nah, probably a bunch of french guys gathered around a table who asked themselves, "what do americans really want in life, thats different from the rest of the world?" Answer: "americans want for life to be as cushioned as hell. And you know americans wont feel guilty about it either. "
I bet these are brilliant to run in even know they look like a brick bet they light aswell 👍👍👟👟
Looks like a size 9 upper on a size 14 midsole/outsole 😂
you could go skiing in those
Snowshoes?
I would run in these shoes assuming face masks are made compulsory again. I would wear two just in case the first one fell off.
First of all this is apparently great for fast downhills for pros however I think this is a PR stunt. In automotive world there is term of "halo car", it's a car that is so good or so outrages that pull eyes of whole world to that brand (examples are Audi R8, Kia Stinger GT, Ford GT) and sales other models. IMHO this is what Hoka is doing, everybody talks about Ten Nine, even outlets that are not going too deep into running world are writing articles starting with "Hoka, manufacturer best known for their max cushioned shoes released this" - articles like that will pull new customers to Hoka that never heard about them and relied on more main stream max cushioned offerings
I was thinking about that angle, and perhaps that what they were going for, but I don't think I've seen a single pro running in this.
on an unrelated note, I'm pretty curious about the speedgoat after experiencing the stretchy vamp on this shoe.
@@kofuzi Doesn't matter that pros didn't ran in them, there was more press about those shoes than pretty much about any pro runner plus the timing was just perfect (most likely by accident) because it was released in a year where none pro runner could get to first page by winning race and everyone went onto trails, away from crowded cities.
Finally, a real clown shoe for runners! For all those Hyundai owners that have a whale tail spoiler bolted onto their trunk here is your signature shoe.
I have a tesla and people are really missing out!! 🍷🍷💯💯
I mean.. if youre gonna rice out a car, let it be a hyundai
