I used to have a special Christmas savings account so I knew my exact budget each year, but then we all began to recognize Christmas was about shopping and excess. So we stopped exchanging gifts a few years back and keep it to some stocking stuffers. We say to each other, “what you would spend on me, save and spend on yourself”. No stress over “will they like it? Is it the right size? Was I equitable?” Our gifts are to enjoy each other’s company along with beautiful decorations, delicious feasts, sing along to music and laugh. For those who want to play board games or cribbage by the fire, great. For those who want to watch a favorite holiday movie, great. We enjoy the holidays so much more now!
I give gifts cards. 2 for each person: 1 for them to use, and 1 to give to someone in need. They always share about the joy they have in helping those in need. These are not large amounts. It’s the thought about remembering people around us that matters. I suppose this is a way to gift and pay it forward.

We opted to donate to our favorite charities instead. Now I no longer have the anxiety of trying to figure out what to get everyone, and what to do with the things I received that I don’t need or like. Thanks for introducing me to Quince-I think. Ha ha. I’m addicted to quilts. I guess it’s warm and cozy for me too. (BTW, my friends aren’t into makeup or skincare either, so I always look ten years younger than they in group photos. Bwhahahahaha!). Anyway, I don’t do Xmas gifts regularly-I give my husband five 100 dollar bills withdrawn from our own checking account. He loves it! Of course, the son is never lacking in the Zelle gift department from us. The main recipient of my gift giving though is the most deserving of our family-me. Husband and son claim they have no idea what to get me-it’s as though they never met me or something. I myself never run out of ideas that light up my life for the brief moment I open the packaging anyway. However, this year I did gift four of my bird-watching friends a lovely 3-D paper sculptured tree with bird ornaments that you set up from FreshCutPaper. They have some very interesting products.

I love flameless candles! My mother died from the effects of a house fire--started by a candle. Regular candles give me anxiety; with flameless I can relax.
I have found that gift cards make a great gift. You do not have to worry about anyone's personal taste. Just give them the card and let them buy the gift!
