Hello Tom, I’ve been rollerblading for 25 years now and started skateboarding right when I turned 40. It’s a great experience doing both sports, just like having two kids who are different but you love them equally. After learning to ollie in both stances, I will use your tutorials to learn new tricks. You are doing a great job explaining, keep it up!🛹🔥
u right, i’ve never thought of flicking my heel flips with the toe
Yes 🔥 I hope it helps you like it did for me!
Is there a way of fliking ur heelflips without hangging the foot at all ?
I don’t hang my foot off I just flick it with my toe it ain’t that hard
Hey Tom, just wanna say I landed my first heelflip yesterday using your tips. I've never felt this happy for landing a trick😁
The tip about flicking with the toe made the big difference for me. I always flick with my heel!😂 this was a great tutorial! Keep up the good work!
So glad to hear that! Thanks for sharing!
I just realized that the toe pointing downwards was really the driving force in doin heelflip.
Since it was the first flip trick I learned. I just do it little different than most because my front foot position is in a kickflip position! Dont know maybe other skater do it too.
Bro U really got great talent in observing how skateboarding works and teaching it clearly to us audiences.
Thank you Tom! ❤❤
P.S. Do a Impossible Tutorial next please!
Thanks so much for this video, it’s taken me about 6 months to get the heel flip consistent but your video and a lot of practice has paid off . Thanks again from Bristol UK
I have a bad habit of doing the tricks im comfortable with instead of doing the ones i want to learn. I hope to learn heels soon. I'll try when i'm not sick.
It's an easy habit to fall into, but once you learn a trick it becomes so much easier and it's all uphill from there.
I like how you teach the "lean" ,most trick tips don't do this and its the most important part of the tips
Thank you I'm so glad to hear it's helpful!
Definitely the most important. Checking out all his tutorials now
So true
I always felt weird flipping my heelflips with my toe since everyone else seems to get the flick off the heel. Glad i aint the only one haha
Ive been strugling with these in the pyramid, im gonna relearn them this way so i can master it, hope i can land it in the pyramid this time
Damn, just changed my whole perspective on heelflips. Everytime I would land one, it would be a no popped heelflip but i think it was cause i was more focused on flicking with the heel. Definitely gonna try to be more toe oriented next time i try them.
I had the same issue! And this tip made such a difference. I hope it helps!
Very good tutorial!! u covered everthing and explained it really well thx man 🙏
Thank you dude!! So glad you liked it!
You are my favorite person on the internet for these. Please keep going.
I couldn't ask for a better compliment than this. 🙏 Thanks SO much! Many more to come!
I never thought I would ever learn to heelflip cos I just couldn't understand how it was even possible. Your video and a few go's later and I've landed y first ones. Thanks so much! Your tutorials are the best!
Comments like these make me so happy! So stoked you learned heelflips!
Thanks for this! So much insight
Of course! 👊
Loving the videos man
Thanks so much! Love hearing this!
2:30 am can’t wait till the sun comes out to go and try this out. But great way of explaining it, thank you
Haha yes 🔥 I hope the tips help!
Thanks Tom ! Your tips works great for me !! landed all my heel flips after watching your video !! ( DON'T FLICK WITH THE HEEL !!!) Cheers from France !
So happy to hear this! Thanks for sharing!
That was very helpful
Let me know if these tips helped you!
Just found your channel, thank you for the tips. Also you got a lot of style in your skating. Thank you!
Thanks so much I appreciate you saying that! Stoked to be able to help you guys! 👊
Hey Tom I hope things are going well with your surgery. The heel flip tutorial helped me a lot especially with the back foot pop in the middle. Now I’m able to do it with confidence. The front foot flicking with the toes was key. Thanks man
Thanks so much. 🙏 And thank you for telling me which tips helped you, I love hearing these things. So glad this helped you get them down!
Tutorials are great! Cant wait for FS flip and 360 flip
Thanks so much! I'll make note to film those ones soon! Unfortunately I rolled my ankle bad so there may be a delay, so bear with me.
Amazing content
Wow all these years and you actually don’t use your heel I’m so impressed !
Sick tips🤟
Thanks Nate! ✊
Good
bro thank you so much. i was doing everything wrong!
I've been able to heelflip for a while now I for sure agree with the tip about putting the pressure on your front foots toes then flicking with the toe almost in a way, But for whatever reason I find when Im leaning my weight in the backseat and backwards like heelside I'm able to pop a pretty fat heelflip but If i lean over my toes I can never keep my board level or even under me so I found that part interesting since I lean my weight so much different looking at my heelflips vs yours and my upper heel almost my ankle is the last thing touching the griptape before I flicked I noticed just interesting to me how people heelflip in different ways the pop for me is always the weirdest like I have to pop it just right
Cool tip about using the toe to flick. Kyro looks like he use's his heel in his tutorial.
What a great tutorial lol i used to skate
Just did my first heelflip in over 15 years! Closer to 18 years actually. Thanks for all the helpful tips
15 years is crazy
Heelflips are so weird
I tried flipping the board using my toe and thought I was cheating before watching this tutorial 😅 it actually works
best heelflip tutorial
🙏 thank you!
Super helpful, thanks for making this! Ive landed a couple. My flick is perfect and really consistent but I’m not catching them😢 I know once it clicks I’ll have them super consistent, I literally can’t wait!
Same shit was happening to me till today bruv it finally clicked
very insightful one, cheers!
Thank you! 🥂
@@toms_tutorials i legit landed my first one about 40mins ago, rolling fast, popped and clean because of the toe flip tip
Landed my first one today and a couple days ago landed my first kf‼️
Wow what a week for you! Stoked to be able to help you learn them!
tried these today almost landed five landed primo twice and popsicled myself so tired
edit:i have them on lock
Tom been skating a long time. But never took time to really hone in on a trick to make it so consistent except my kickflips. Which Im probably the best at between everyone I skate with. Im 39 and still ripping. However I have a ton of tricks I can do...sometimes. So started really trying to get better..so late in game. Ah its fine I have fun. I will say your vids are the most informative I have seen. More detailed about exactly what you are doing with flicks and pops and foot placement. So thanks for that. I will say I have one suggestion that I think is good for your vids. Which is at end when you are doing a few stick in one actual street skating of said trick. Like down a set or a hip/pyramid. So not just on flat. Shows that your trick tips really do go everywhere not just parking lot sessions. Just a sugestion. Your channel do what you want.
Thank you for the kind words, and great suggestion! Sometimes it's hard for us to make the time to get out and film these tricks elsewhere, but actually, I do usually include a street clip of mine in the beginning of my vids that shows me doing the trick I'm teaching. This tutorial included! Watch the intro to this if you haven't already.
Okay, definitely going to try this. I have always sucked at heel flips. I actually used to do them late because it was easier. Seems like this could be the key. TU.
Did it work? My struggles with this trick are crazy
@@surpriseshoveit3514 So, I was starting to get them but I was focusing on some other tricks more and then I had a massive freak heart attack so I haven’t been skating and I can’t say for certain. It definitely felt easier to get them to flip but I hadn’t landed any. It’s likely going to be a couple of months before I can skate again so ask again in August or September.
Accidently landed a heel flip while in my Ollie practice session. Week 2 of skateboarding
Thanks to this vid 👌🏿
Great tutorial! But I'm having trouble with keeping the board under me, the board will go out to my right side so only my front foot can land but not my back, any tips? Thanks
Thank you! Have you tried leaning a little more over the toe side of your board? It may help to lean slightly forward too.
45° angle pressure distribution. Keep the front foot stiff as can be, and the back foot springy as possible. Back foot stays flat, but pops hard and slightly backwards. Flick slow and steady with the front foot stiff while hitting the front flip corner side of the nose area. Flick straight out and not to the side. The higher you jump, the higher your heelflip will carry. To see the master of this trick, (and how they should be done) watch Lindsey Robertson’s zero part.
Thanks for taking the time to post! Have always sorta-kinda had this trick, want to get it in the bag. When I lean on my toes, my board always lands behind me, on my heels. Any suggestions?
Hmm, I would try still putting weight down on your toes, but not letting your torso lean over as far. That may be what's causing your board to go behind you.
@@toms_tutorials Figured it out! Was a back foot placement issue more than anything. I was overcompensating by covering too much of the board with my foot / toes. Thanks again for the tip! Would love to see switch heels / switch flips on the channel. Keep it up!
@@jackwiefels5306 awesome I'm glad to hear that! I can definitely see how having too much of your foot on the tail would have a negative effect. Switch heels are pretty similar! Also, gotta do a switch or nollie flip tutorial at some point.
Shout out to the old hub skatepark in mpls!
No way is this a fellow Hub loc?! That place was so much fun!
Deadass watch this and got it
Yes love hearing this! 🥂
Dude, THANK YOU!!! I landed my first heelflip in months after applying your tips, particularly the leaning over the toes before you pop. My problem with heelflips has been that the board goes behind me, I jump in front of the board, or both. It was starting to drive me crazy! Literally every heelflip video I've seen before watching yours says to lean back to fix this problem, so I started leaning back even more, but I realize now that only made these problems worse.
That said, I still find myself jumping in front of the board for heelflip and kickflips, and I imagine that leaning over my toes doesn't do much to help with that. Do you have any tips to correct this? Are you looking anywhere specific during heelflips (e.g. at your nose, at the heelside edge of your board, etc.)? And does any of this change for kickflips?
Thanks in advance for your time and instruction. I look forward to more videos! =)
SO happy to hear this helped with your heelflips! To answer your questions, when I do heelflips I'm looking at my front foot the whole time. Before I pop, at the catch, and when I land. This was a great question by the way! In regards to you jumping forward on kickflips and heelflips, in most cases momentum can help with that. If you go too slow, the friction of the ground can actually cause your body to jump forward ahead of your board since only the wheels on your board are affected by the friction. Also, are you keeping your shoulders parallel with your board? Because if you turn your shoulders before you pop (rather than keeping them parallel) that may also cause you to jump forward. Let me know if that makes sense and if this helps!
@@toms_tutorials Thanks for the feedback! I've been practicing most of my flip tricks stationary, but I can see why the extra momentum would help keep me from jumping toeside. I'll give these things a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks again. You rock!
@@DrumberBoy69 of course! It definitely is scarier trying tricks while rolling vs. stationary so I can understand why you would. Even just a small bit of momentum may help with that though. Please do let me know if these tips help! I'm happy to answer any other questions you have, too.
I’ve been doing heelflips like that unintentionally my whole life until a friend of mine pointed out I was using my toe instead of my actual heel 😅 . I also do my switch heelflips with my flick foot all on the board and nothing hanging off
I flicked with my toe so hard it started to bleed but it able to heel flip
i should've watched this before calling the ambulance
My problem is I can land these stationary and notice that I’m not flicking hard enough or my leg is not fully out of the way lol
Fakie tre tutorial please
I just got back to skateboarding ive never done a flip trick hope this helps
I hope so too!
bro ive been doing them for 2 years wrong :DDd
Damn, with that boned out heelflip, I'd say I'm convinced the tips will work!
Haha thank you!!
When I lean forward over my toes the board goes behind me and I go in front of it. I'm trying to relearn them I've always done them with my heel and jumped backwards.
It’s always dependent upon the individual, and since skateboarding is so specific and our bodies are so different, adjustments will always have to be made to cater to the way you skate. For me, it has really helped me to not lean over the heel side of my board because it helps me prevent my board from rocketing, but if you’re jumping in front of your board too much I totally agree that you should lean more over your heels than you currently are.
@toms_tutorials Thanks for the reply! I finally caught a few of them using your technique. They feel a lot better now flicking with the toe. Great tutorial I appreciate it! 🙏
I been watching this. I still don't understand how you can put hella weight over your front foot. How do you pop ? Or is it a tender toder motion. How does putting weight over that front foot make a difference? Obviously you know but it ain't clicking I guess. I'll get it but seems like every one confuses me on this trick. Help!
You still put more weight on your back foot which enables you to pop, but putting more weight down on my front foot for heelflips helps me put a ton of pressure down on that edge so that my foot flicks properly. It's hard to even say why, but I notice I do it on heelflip tricks but not kickflip tricks. For most kickflip tricks I put most of my weight on my back foot. We're all different though and with skateboarding you always have to take different tips into account and experiment to find what works best for you.
Your heelflips are mean looking Tom. Thanks for your tips!
my heelflips go 180 😢, but sick vid bro 👌
means u flicking too fast
15 years I’ve been skating and I can safely say I’ve never done a good heelflip
4:42
Nice griptape job though..
My heelflips go in front of me, hope when I get home I can apply these to land a heelflip
Edit: Still goes infront of me
Hmm, do you mean in front as in ahead of you or in front of your toes? If it's going ahead of you, it may help to lean forward with your body more than you are.
@@toms_tutorials whenever I flick or pop or anything the board either moves toward from the original position or tries to inward Heelflip or something I don’t even know
Got 4 eyebrows
Nothing about heel flips made any sense to me, watched this video hopped on my board and landed it first try after a thousand attempts before this video
I have to say, no offense, but I believe every key point in this video is wrong. Flicking with your toe is simply not how this trick is done. This video spreads the "flick with your toe" theory without properly explaining this is ultra niche.
Also leaning on your toes is one of the major issues with heelflips for many people, as you can see in many tutorials. The fact that he advises to lean on your toes without further clarification is crazy! And I can say pretty much the same thing about leaning forward, in a minor way.
Tom, you seem to be a great guy, but this tutorial is a no-no for me...
This is not a heelflip...cool trick but not a heelflip by any stretch of the imagination.
