Hey my man, not going to lie, after checking out your vids; got on Ebay, got old R610 installed vsphere, some older layer 2 and 3 switches and an ISR4321 to dive into it. Very inspiring channel!
Hey thanks for the video. Would love to hear how you configured RAID-5 with only 2 drives. I was under the impression that you needed a minimum of 3 drives to configure RAID-5.
I have a server I haven't used yet. Fully loaded but need to find how to put VMWare ESXI / EVE-ng / Raid 0 / Raid 5 on it. Also I did that lab you doing. Really good lab.
@@TheBuffNerd7539 thanks I plan on taking my CCNA in December or early January. I hope I pass! STP was confusing to learn at first but I think I got that part done after watching several videos and reading on it. I hope😂
@@Stoneface_ I passed the CCNA in Dec. I work for a big tech company now doing Network Engineer internship. I haven't started any firewall certs. I received a job offer north of 80k but turned it down to pursue big tech on my resume.
Can you make a video on starting with this home lab? I just got my CCNA and found out that I need to do a lot of labs for CCNP. I want to buy a server but do not know how to manage EVE-NG there or install it even. Thanks
@@freddiemunoz4443 yeah why not. It's server grade motherboard. Supports the 2x Intel XENON processors I have and 128 GB ECC ram. It's a bit older but still powerful and stable.
How did you get started with setting up labs during your ccna journey, I have packet tracer and actually bought cisco switches and a router but now I seem to be too overwhelmed with what I should do next. Life threw me a curveball and at the same time the cisco certs updated so that also threw me off track mentally. Havent opened packet tracer but a few times and switches are collecting dust. I think I'm getting to a space where I can get back into seriously pursuing my ccna, do you have any recommendations for setting up some beginner labs?
I would recommend a very small lab, one network, two users, 2 VLANS, and one router. Something real simple and basic so that you can focus on the fundamentals. Practice and understand the simple things. Like configuring the network to where one vlan can communicate with another. Establish your foundation there, then start building out your knowledge base. Add more users, add additional switches, create another network on a different subnet and set up communication between the two. Start small and work your way up 😁👌🏾
Inside of VMware ESXI. I installed ESXI on a usbport that is plugged into the server so that I could utilize the entire servers storages for hosting VM’s.
How is the noise level for this server? I want to buy one but my problem is that I can only put it in my desk where I work. Is it very loud? Or is it possible to work near by it?
It's a lot quieter than my air conditioner that's for sure. They definitely will heat up a room. Glad we're running in to winter, won't have to use the radiator heater this year!!
@@magnum-kj5ip I agree, best way for sure. Even if you don't get the cert, the problems that you will run in to with your homelab are usually a lot of the same problems your future team will be running into in prod, just at a much larger and nightmarish scale. You'll definitely have an advantage with encountering these issues on not only your own terms, but you might have even found ways to conquer the issues that they might have not approached yet.
It’s not ideal, but it can be done. Before you try to correct someone, do a little research. Like I said in the video, I just did it to do it. Not because I needed it.
Excuse the shirt lol I was at the gym prior to recording this video.

Welcome back!
Good presentation , please kindly give me a list fo equipment used for your recordings ?
Thank you for the video content and insight. I assume appliance PA-PW2 is named Chips and Salsa? LOL
I had to come back to this video after passing my CCNA. I'm going for CCNP, now. I'm trying to find the most inexpensive way to lab for CCNP.
This amazing video. 👍 well done
Thanks so much!
Great video. I see Lot of palo alto firewalls requirements in my local job listing and Fortinet. I was leaning towards Palo Alto after I pass my CCNA.
It’s a very fun platform, I want you to feet to CCNA. GO FOR IT!!!

Running a Dell T5600 "Workstation"
- 32 vCPU
- 128 GB RAM
EVE-NG installed on bare metal.
you can add 128 GB RAM to dell T5600 ?

Damn. I need a snapshot of that VM.

Choice: If you had to make a choice. Would you choose GNS3 or EVE-NG?
Yes
Eve-ng. Ive worked with both an overall like the layout of eve better they are both great tho
Hey, man. I love your videos! How much RAM does your server have? I’m looking at buying one with 32GB, 16-core CPU, etc.
64GB I want to add more
I am having issues setting up eve-ng, can you help?
How did you set your EVE-NG on the server? bare metal or a vm inside vmware ESXI?

Quick question. Doing my CCNA what would you recommend is the best way to lab?
Buying actual equipment would be the best way to lab. Packet tracer works well 2. For the CCNA thats all you really need.
@@TheBuffNerd7539 appreciate it

I just came across this video. FYI you need three drives to create a raid 5. You created a raid 1. You need to study the technology you are using.
