    I watched over 10 of these how to fix the channel balance videos and all they did were getting me so confused. They talked a lot and didn't say much. Then, this presentation came and "I saw the light" in less than 2 minutes. Thank you.

    This repair is very simple following the video. Both of my sash channel balances fell out of the groove in my window frame. I followed the video and a very simple repair. Window is working perfect now. There are different kinds of channel balances for different windows, so if you don't have the exact same as this video, search the RUclips video on the right side of your screen for your specific type. Thank you so much for what I thought was going to be a complicated repair. 3 minutes and it was done. One last thing, this video showed only one sash, I have two, same procedure for both sides. THANK YOU SWISCO !!!!!!!

    I had two windows that I neglected for 5 years bc I thought I'd have to replace the entire window frame and all. About to rent the home so figured I'd look into the root cause. Google led me to your site and helpful videos. $50 and about 1 hour later, I had functioning windows again! Thanks Swisco!

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 3 года назад

      Why $50? all you need are 2 metall spring channels, they are about 9 to 15$ at home depot. And you can use the old clips. All these parts are no more than $6 total selling them to window manufacturers. But maybe you had a different glass or frame issue?

Great service from Swisco in helping me identify the parts and getting the right parts to me. Even with paying for rush shipping, it was almost 2/3rds cheaper than buying the parts locally.

    Thank you for this video. Saved us a bundle on having a guy come out and repair them. Our problem - The take out clips were cheap plastic parts that became brittle over time and broke upon pulling them out for the balance removal. Luckily we could get replacement clips in town. We found out that it is a common problem with the plastic clips. Cheap parts in an otherwise expensive widow.

    Hi Mark, it sounds like you have coil sash support balances. Yes, you can order replacement parts for this type of sash support system on SWISCO's Web site. You can reach the window sash support balance on SWISCO's Web site: Catalog > Door & Window > Sash Support Hardware (sorry RUclips will not allow me to post links). You can also start a support case with us and we can walk you through the process of choosing the correct replacement coil balance hardware.

    Once you place the window sash into the frame and over the channel balance, the top sash guide will catch on the top of the channel balance, and "guide" it downward. The pressure of the channel balance is dependent on the top sash guide, as the top sash guide allows the balance and sash to work together.

      My guess is that some windows are different compared to others. My window had a plastic piece screwed into the side (near the top) of the window... and I suspect this varies from window to window. Your comment was quite correct for my windows. Unlike the video instructions, where the guy put the BOTTOM of the window into the new channel balance (that was hooked into the window frame), my window would NOT allow that. As you have stated, I had to put the TOP of the window in first, making sure the 90 degree angle plastic pieces of BOTH the channel balance AND the window were seated flush against each other. Otherwise, I could not get the window back into the window frame. I should also point out that it is a LOT easier to install a small window (like the one in the video) compared to a larger 3' x 4' window (or larger).

    Hi Mike, I went through the steps to replacing both window channel balances/sashes (one was broke and to save time, replaced both), it took a little while, but I got them out and the new sashes installed, or so I thought. The window now can be pushes down evenly with a small amount of pressure (seems good to go) and then once you get to the bottom/closed, it's super difficult/hard to get it to rise back up. Is there something I'm overlooking? I did the process twice, just to make sure I didn't overlook a detail. Any help is appreciated.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  3 года назад

      The first thing that comes to mind is that the new balances could be the incorrect tension for the weight of the window sash. If you can send us a photo of the stamped number on your original, we can look into it - www.swisco.com/page-contact

    I am trying to replace the balances in my window. I have not been able to figure out how to tilt it, and it doesn't have the take-out clips you mention in your video. I'm at a loss. Any pointers on identifying how to remove the sash?

    • @SWISCO

      Do you at least have the slots where the take-out clips install? If so, you can simply purchase new ones to replace those that are missing. For example, the Swisco 16-002 Take Out Clip may be what you need.
      If you don't even have the slots, though, then you could consider temporarily installing a screw where they would go. Once the balances are replaced and everything is reinstalled, you would remove the screws so that the window can operate normally. Could that work for you?

      I'm not sure I follow you.
      Doing a little bit more research after making that comment, I came to the conclusion that I have one of those oh-so-convenient builder grade windows, which aren't designed for removal.
      It seems to me, my choices are to replace the whole window, or take the balances I bought and force them in somehow, bending or otherwise. It's a terrible solution, I know, but I don't have the cash to replace at the moment, and I already have replacement balances (through your company, I might add).

      Nicholas Fiala Just to be certain, your existing balances are Channel Balances and not Spiral Balances, correct?

    • @nicholasfiala6205
      @nicholasfiala6205 9 лет назад

      I gotcha now. I think I responded to the wrong video. They are definitely spiral balances.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  9 лет назад

      Nicholas Fiala In reference to the type of window: you're right, builder's grade windows are not made to have their sashes removed (frustrating to say the least). Sometimes you even have to completely remove the whole window, but if you're lucky, there might be a screw on trim that you can remove to take out the sash.
      Moving forward, we definitely recommend you head over to the Discussions section of our website. You can submit a picture of your window so our experts can give you a better idea of what you may be dealing with, and then hopefully that leads to us offering you an easier solution.

    In my case the balance are stuck way up and the sash fell. I can not move them. Any ideas?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  10 лет назад +2

      Quite often your scenario turns out to be the result of a broken top sash guide. You can see the top sash guides at 1:38 of the video, in the top corners of the window sash. In order to get the balance(s) out, you will have to force the balance down (carefully) and get it under the take out clip so that you can remove it. Again, I have to stress, be very careful when you do this. When you've done this, be sure to replace your top sash guides along with your balances.

    Hey, my window won’t slide up at all Because it has a replacement balancer on each side, how can I fix this? My window is locked and won’t slide up

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  5 лет назад

      Hey there! If I'm following, it sounds like you can't open your window because your balances are stuck. Can you confirm? If so, this problem could require an advanced solution. If I were you, I'd take photos of the sides of your windows where your balances go and show them to our Experts over at our Discussion board. I have no doubt they'll be able to figure out what your issue is and walk you through the process of removal. www.swisco.com/page-contact

      Sounds like you have a double-hung window that could use new balances for the top sash. We'd be happy to help more! Reach out to us here - www.swisco.com/page-id-part

    Shows clearly what my video did not cover, that is, the removal of the sash. Mine only shows how to re-install spring balances.

    What about a non tilt top window that moves up & down?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  3 года назад +1

      The process for removing a top sash is the same as removing the bottom sash. In some non-tilt windows the top sash is a permanent fixture and can't be removed.

      It's more or less the same process, however, this particular window is a non-tilt with just one moveable sash.

    Great video. Thank you. I followed the instructions, but as I went to push the window down it stopped about two inches from closing and, as this was unexpected, I sort of pushed a bit to see if it would go. The first time it went down but made a rather loud noise and the right balance literally came out and slid down, as it had come unhooked from the side of the frame. I figured it was a faulty balance. But I tried it again with one new balance and one old balance, and again, the right side, the new balance did the same thing. In both cases the balances broke a little piece off the pulley inside the balance at the very bottom. Anyone know why this is happening? Luckily the balances are cheap, but this doesn't seem good.

      +Troy Nelson It sounds like you may have installed balances that are not the appropriate weight or length. Do you still have your original balances available?

    • @troyjnelson
      @troyjnelson 8 лет назад

      +SWISCO Yes, I do. They appear to be the same size, weight, etc. The only notable difference is that the hook on the cord/rope is tied in a knot through the new ones while in the old ones the hook was crimped on.

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  8 лет назад +1

      +Troy Nelson Alright, well assuming your channel length and channel stamps match that of your original, the issue could be the knot you mentioned. Sometimes we've seen issues where there is no "knot relief hole" in the jamb, so there is undue strain on the string (creating that loud noise). Oftentimes we recommend drilling a new hole directly in the jamb where the knot is located to relieve it of the stress. Some manufacturers attach their clips in different ways and while the knot issue is uncommon, it's still an issue in some circumstances. Now before you go ahead and start drilling, I highly recommend starting a Discussion thread on our website. There you can submit pictures of your window and window balances to our Experts so they can get a better idea of your situation. Good luck, Troy!

      +SWISCO By the way, I got it taken care of. Turns out my neighbor is the one who installed the windows on this house years ago and, in fact, that is what he does for a living. Who knew? Not me. Anyway, he came over and took a look and we figured that because the hook on these new balancers are connected to the cord by being tied to them (drill a hole, put it through, tie a knot), rather than crimped on to the cord as the old ones did, was the issue. That knot caused the hooks to stick out a bit, and hit the spring which meant the window wouldn't close. My neighbor brought me some slightly used balancers from his shop (free of charge I might add!) and installed them, and all is fantastically well. Can't thank him enough - and can't thank you enough for helping me figure out what was going on here. Thanks again!!!

    Thank You! Now I see what the problem is. The channel balance was not installed properly and the metal hook tab was crushed. I'll order replacements from you.
    ATTENTION property owners: The CHEAP a-hole I pay $1,250 every month, like clockwork, to refused to fix the broken window, which was broken when I moved in.
    So I am doing it myself. I know the trashbag will steal my $1250 deposit when I move out, as I am doing very soon, even after I paid him over $18,000. We'll see what this dump looks like when I move out. Ever wonder WHY your little "asset' was heavily damaged? He is gonna steal $1,250, and spend it right away X 3THREE. Done. Karma.
