  • In this Science (Physics) video in Hindi for Class 9 we explained Newton's first law of motion and the concept of inertia. This is from chapter 9 - 'Force and Laws of Motion' from NCERT.
Aristotle once stated that rest is the natural state of an object and an external force is required to keep that in motion.
But, Galileo Galilei proved him wrong by demonstrating with inclined plane experiment. He showed that a ball rolls down and then climbs up upto the level it had been released from. So he concluded that upon reaching down if the ball travels on a hoeizontal plane, it would contonue to move. He stated that an unbalanced (external) force is required to change the motion of the object; but no net force is needed to sustain the uniform motion.
Isaac Newton continued the work of Galileo and gave three laws of motion. In this video we talked about the first one.
The first law of motion states that an object remains in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change that state by an applied force. This is also known as the law of inertia. Inertia is the tendency to retain the state of motion of a matter.
Inertia is a property of matter by virtue of which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.
