god, this episode was a masterful way to end this season. it’s so clear that this series was and is created by people who love the original. thank you for reviewing and recapping - it’s nice to put faces to the voices i have been listening to for the past few months
also, when louis was plotting to end the coven, i couldn’t help but laugh when he meowed at the cat. there were rare laughs in the episode, but that was one of them
It really is a labor of love (for the show runners, and us).
A few thoughts:
1. The way Lestat’s voice broke when he asked Louis if he hurt himself DESTROYED me.
2. I wonder if DJ Sam will help Lestat with his music career?
3. It was great seeing both of you!

Armand is just a hot mess - calculating, disingenuous, smug, frightening, vulnerable, needy, lost, desperate, regal and impressive, angelic-looking, sexy AF, and mesmerizing!!!. Imma def gonna have to go read the books to better understand this character. I can't believe how much I empathize with him. Must learn more! Since I haven't read the books yet my hat goes off to Assad Zaman for this intriguing portrayal... otherwise I probably wouldn't be so fascinated by Armand.
The scene between Sam and Louis at the end is one of the finest I’ve ever seen in cinema.

@@sharcon3891 before the final episode I would have said to leave Sam out of the discussions. He was wonderful all season long, but this was Jacob and Assad and Delainey’s years. But nah, that final episode means Sam ought to be up for best supporting.
The writers are so smart to have it end this way , because the whole time Claudia was asking Louie who is Louie and booom we find out
While I might one day completely explain how I became aware of Rice and her turning into my 'patron saint', it did touch me when Joel was talking about wanting his son to become a fan. My mother was the one who opened the door for me into this world and it has become the strongest connection i have to my mother and her spirit. Here's to hoping that his kid does become a fan and continuing on his father's love for this world as I have been with my mother.
And how nice: if all of us are ever at a convention, I won't have to close my eyes to figure out who you guys are via your voices. Lol

I think season two answers some of the questions from season one. I cried when Louis and Lestat finally apologized to each other for their mistakes in the relationship. Both will suffer the ghost/spirit of what happened to Claudia. Claudia’s death was so traumatic to both of them. I think in some form Claudia spirit will continue in the show as it did in the books.

I just went back and rewatched episode 5. When we know the circumstances which made Louis stay with Armand all this time, it really hits different

I'm dying to know about Daniel not having violet eyes and them not showing Daniel being turned by Armand. They better revisit that, Rolin Jones promises to contrary, I need it!
Daniel in the books looks a lot different than the series version, for one thing he's not old and looks a lot younger than his actual yrs with blonde hair and violet eyes. Series Daniel has copper colored eyes similar to his maker.
I like Armand. He is an old demon so what do you expect? He is bored and Louis is a blip on his eternal lifetime. They had 77 good years of world adventures together. He and Louis etc.. will find others. I still like Armand, he can scramble my branium anytime.

I really hope they find ways to keep louis in the storyline and also progressing like he was not doing the books. I want character progression, story Progression and Character development for Louis and Daniel.
Absolutely think we're going to continue to get Louis (and Daniel at least for a few seasons) centered in this story, even as Lestat takes the limelight. The fanbase for those two is too big in the show to leave them behind.

I'm really not sure. I'm certain she had some ideas for what was next, I don't think Blood Communion was supposed to be her last VC book. BUT, she also died sort of unexpectedly, so I don't think she was making any "final plans" for after she was gone.
There are rumors that there's a book being published this December with Anne's name on it (no clue yet whether it's a new work, some republished edition, or something that's a collaboration between Anne's notes and Christopher or some other writer finishing them.
Gabrielle and Louis "Roadtrip to rescue Lestat 2025" (they could make t-shirts). LET'S GOOOOO!
I imagine them picking up a human or two as snacks for the road, bonding over "Lestat so stoopid" anecdotes, and sharing their top ten extreme introvert holiday destinations. I made a comment elsewhere that said I imagined a montage of Louis going "feral plan maker mode" again, but this time it was how to make the coolest (most effortless looking) entrance to impress Lestat. It gets really involved and complicated. All the while, Gabrielle is nodding but looking sympathetically concerned thinking, "So this is love...". Then they get to the concert venue and she just Tokyo drifts right next to the building and says to Louis, "Eh bien, mon beau-fils. Nous sommes arrivés!". 😂❤

I'm too attached to Jacob's Louis, I know that Rolin has already said that Louis will be a co-lead in the universe, but still, seems like a new territory to be explored since his counterpart was so neglected in the books.

I think the end of the episode gives us plenty of assurance that he’ll have more to do than he did in the books.

Wild to me that you find it hard to feel for Armand. I find him by far the most interesting and likeable character.
The beauty is that Anne wrote something for all of us. I think Anne herself found it hard to connect with Armand. Lestat was always her baby.
Armand is also my favourite so I completely agree.

@@thearticulatecoven Even crazier!! Rolin actually confirmed in an interview that he purposefully placed that inconsistency in season 1 so he could bring it up in season 2. He said it was very difficult having to pretend to be an idiot for that long hahaha. I can dig up the interview for you if you haven't read it yet!
We did see that, we discussed it on the show actually. I LOVE how into these books he is, and cannot wait for us to see his season three.

First off, I'm so happy we get to see your faces! Been a long time fan of you guys and even longer of the books.
2. I did love that we got the reunion scene of sorts, and it was so hard to watch due to all the rears I was shedding. It was carhartic and real, and so very "them" as portrayal in their vulnerable moments in the book. Joel you have expressed that beautifully!
Side note however, I thought said boyfriend Quinn?? I didn't think it was Lestat’s fledgling but perhaps I need to rewatch for the 3rd time.
3 Did you guys notice that we didn't get the Amythyst eyes for Danny??!! I was heartbroken a bit. Though I hope with the whole eye color changing thing (which idk wtf that is all about), that we eventually get that little tidbit in next season.
4. I might be alone in this, but I think that while Lestat and Louis are having their own time apart, at least how it appears, that Lestat definitely redecorated the Dubai apartment, or heavily influenced it with all the golds and blues thrown about.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant, this is my first ever comment on your content, so there was a lot to get out. Love you guys!

Armand is the type of person who uses people to get back at others. He used Louis to get back at Lestat for abandoning him. And even though Lestat allowed Claudia (or he was so weakened he had to choose who to save) to be put into the sun, Armand would have also used that to get back at Lestat. Another one of his fledgling in the grave. They may have been bumping heads by the end of their last contact, but Lestat clearly still cares about Claudia.
The fact that Armand turned Malloy purely out of spite when Louis said he wasn’t to be harmed shows that he is really twisted in how he punishes people who have slighted him.
I wonder if we’ll get the full story of Daniel’s turning & whether or not it had any aspects of The Devil’s Minion.

Louis' pebbles remind me if s1 Claudia's "we keep the damage so we remember the damage". Also, Daniel's trademark violet eyes are NOT violet. Could the writers be that lazy? Or perhaps could "someone" with a unique ability being walking around wearing Daniel and that accounts for different eye color than we should be seeing?🤔
It’s possible I suppose, but I really hope that we don’t get the TotBT story as flashback. I want to see it all happen!
@@thearticulatecoven I wouldn't want ToTB as a flashback either, but it doesn't mean RJ couldn't jump Daniel first, seeing as how in the show at least, he is making himself known to Daniel first. But we'll see, I can't wait to know how it all unfolds

Love it Ashley when you said "Bam look at my cards Bitch," it needs to be on a T-Shirt with the scene of Louis and Lestat playing poker in season 1.
Also I live the Acolyte. Its great storytelling with complex characters. Like Interview no one is eeally innocent and there are many POV's for the same event, depending on who is telling the story.

100% Season 2 cost more. Here's why: they had 3 different time periods to produce (1700s, 20th and 21st century), they had to travel their cast and producers to Europe, the exchange rate between EUR and USD, cast was bigger...I'm likely missing other elements but those are the top things that come to mind. As a Production Veteran I know about these things.
Good call. But that would also make sense why we wouldn’t see every $ on screen.
I predict we will have a IWAV / Talamasca crossover. Raglan James, Rashid, and Sam will make an appearance or be major characters in that series.

I had no idea Netfix acquired the show. I'm VERY worried now. If what they did to The Witcher universe is any indication, we should all be worried.
Maybe AMC will make it, and Netflix will just host? 🤷♀️
They didn’t actually buy the show, just licensed it to show the first season (and one assumes if it’s successful there future seasons as well). Think what they did with Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, not actually taking the production of the show over at all. IWTV is safe!

"The Vampire Lestat" shows us that Lestat was a good person, not an asshole the way Louis portrays him. I love Gabrielle, and look forward to seeing her.

I think in return, Daniel will probably become a Talamasca agent. Nout in the same kind of capacity like Roland James but as a historian. Someone who is closer to the type of agent in the books. A recorder of stories.

It's all about people's perceptions of memory of their past. Louis as a vampire is no different than anyone else especially in this situation.
You have to do Love At First Bite! It's in the same wheelhouse as the movie "Airplane!" Very campy and fun.

The way Louis easily beat Armand makes me think that Armand's account of his first encounter with Lestat where Armand supposedly uses his powers to manhandle Lestat was probably a lie too. It was probably the other way around and Lestat kicked his butt.
The TVL scenes between them are quite different than what we got in flashback this season. I think you might be right.

The Lestat animations showed him clutching a big red box to his chest on 2 occasions during the 'play'. Any theories on what it could be?
Believe it was the music box he made with Nikki’s song. We saw it in season one, episode one in his home when he’s courting Louis.
Did either of you, Joel or Ashely, or both, watch the hour long special effects and the like doc on AMC about IWTV’s season 2? Show Me More Season Two is what is called on my DVD-R. It is cool to hear all the actors speaking voices. I had only heard the actor who plays Armand in an interview once for Hotel Portofino. Did you watch this?
I had seen it by the time we recorded, Ashley hadn’t yet. I’ve been disappointed with the level of “extras” that IWTV has gotten so far. I’m hoping that picks up with season three. We should have an official after show honestly.

I am STILL SH😶🤯K that Louis came clean bout being an asshole & that Lestat was COMPLETELY vulnerable at the end of the episode. I hope they don't rush through Magnus' death & Gabrielle leaving Lestat so we can get a better understanding of why Lestat is the way he is in terms of him acting out 🤬 anytime he feels someone he cares about is abandoning him. It would be so cool if Kirsten Dunst came back & played Garlbrielle!
I also hope they go ALL-THE-WAY back & show the WHOLE history of the twins 👩🏻🦰👩🏻🦰 & how they met Akasha 👸🏾 & how she became the Mother of All Vampires, unlike how they completely skipped over the backstory in the rushed debacle (except for Aaliyah's performance) that was the QOTD film in 2002.
💯 I would love a whole season or so of ancient stories. Just do a spinoff of Akasha’s army crushing the locals & Maharet & Mekare being brought to the palace.

If they just gave the main vampires 🧛🏻♀️ 🧛🏼♂️ in The Vampire Chronicles their own spin-offs, they wouldn't need to jump off & try to make a franchises out of the Talamasca & The Mayfair Witches & whatever other books of Anne Rice they're trying to capitalize on. I mean, in & of itself, it's not a bad idea, but they don't have a solid footing in terms of AMC fully backing them with their 1st venture ---- IWTV --- to be trying to start at a full-on sprint with these other shows. Of course, the actors & stories from IWTV are SUPERB 👌🏾, but clearly AMC is still not all-the-way-in with their dedication to making the show their new flagship series & backbone of the network since the fade out of The Walking Dead. If they were totally committed to IWTV then they would have renewed it for season 3 at the beginning of season 2 like they did srason 2 at the beginning of season 1. I believe there is some "politicking" drama going on in the boardrooms of AMC ciz how IWTV didn't rack up awards 🏆 with every award show there is beyond me. But as anybody who knows how HollyWEIRD TRULY works, getting nominated has more to do with whose a$$ you're licking as opposed to the merit of the talent of the actors of said show --- whether they be exceptionally talented or exceptionally mediocre.
I just pray the fans voices are loud enough & persuasive enough to keep the show anchored ⚓️, cuz this show, IMO, is the ONLY thing keeping AMC on anybody's radar right now.
And I haven't read any of the Mayfair Witches books, but after dragging myself through the 1st 2 or 3 episodes, I just couldn't get into it. I hadn't read any of the Vampire Chronicles (except from "The Vampire Armand almost a decade prior) & I was TOTALLY able to pick up on the vampire lore & the rules for vampiric existence & was enthralled with IWTV from the 1st episode. In fact, the 1st season made me run 🏃🏾♂️ out & read all of the VC except the 2 that didn't feature Lestat in some way (though I DID read "The Vampire Vittorio") cuz Sam Reid & Jacob Anderson made me fall in love with their chatacters. THAT'S what a good show based on actual pre-existing works of fiction will make you do!
Bur, I think AMC should have held off 🏆✋🏾 introducing anymore shows based on other book series by Anne Rice UNTIL probably the Season 4 for IWTV was greenlit. The way they're going now, they might end up suffering from the "Tyler Perry 👨🏾💼Entropy Effect," i.e., doing LITERALLY 4 or five different series at a time & spreading themselves so thin that the stories suffer at the expense of trying to squeeze a booger out of George Washington's "nose 🪙" 5 ways til Sunday due to greed & not pacing themselves.
ALSO, I hope Sam, Jacob, & Eric's pay keeps going up in tandem with the show's popularity & increasing budget seeing as THEY are the show's mainstays & reason why the show is a success at all! I've heard enough stories, especially after the recent writers' strike of writers, actors, & everyone involved with a production below the level of producer not getting paid commiserate to what the show's success indicates given their contributions are what made the show the juggernaut it is in the FIRST PLACE!
So, the way it’s worked so far I’m not really worried about the expansion of the Immortal Universe. The Talamasca show is actually a great opportunity to right some of the wrongs of the Mayfair series. Mayfair is not really THAT connected with the VC (there are three crossover books basically, and otherwise they’re each their own series). But the Talamasca move between those series and everything else that’s going on in Anne’s paranormal world. My hope is that we get a few of the characters we’ve met on IWTV and a few of the characters that we’re missing so far from both shows as mainstays in the Talamasca (David Talbot and Aaron Lightner specifically). Personally, I’m excited about where this is all going. Having the Talamasca show up and running at least will make QotD a much bigger story than it would be if IWTV was running alone.
@@thearticulatecoven Yeah. Guess you're right bout the Talamasca show adding to the QOTD plot. But the question is will they have it up & running well enough by the time the QOTD storyline is aired? Cuz with the way IWTV is currently going, they are kind of mixing the plots of different VC together. Like, this 2nd season infused a little of The Vampire Lestat with IWTV. And I'm pretty sure AMC is not gonna extend the number of episodes in a season cuz all of these corporations want "more for less" in terms of milking their employees. In this case --- the cast & crew of the show. Rollin Jones might get a SLIGHT 👌🏿 budget increase for IWTV, so more than likely, they'll still be trying to pack a lot of story into their hour long time slot per episode. So, with that being the case, I'm wondering with Season 3 are they going to cover the "meat" of TVL 🧛🏼 in the 1st 4 or 5 episodes & the last 4 to 3 episodes they start the QOTD storyline so that way they can REALLY get all of Akasha👸🏾 & the Twins' 👩🏻🦰👩🏻🦰history covered without rushing it & trying to force what should probably really be 2 to 1.5 Seasons AT least worth of story ALL in Season 4. It's been about 2yrs since I read The Vampire Lestat & I LOVE me some Sam Reid, & I don't think they can do Lestat's origin storyline justice trying to cram it in just 4 episodes. I mean, as good as the writers on the show are, I'm sure they could manage it, but I wouldn't want them to. They probably could have the whole wolf 🐺 killer sequence and have Lestat leave for Paris with Nikki in the 1st episode, but for us to see what Lestat was REALLY dealing with mentally in terms of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father & brothers & to see his time at the monastery & to really build up the foundation of his relationship with Nikki, & establishing what his mortal relationship with his mother Gabrielle was like, we need AT LEAST the whole 1st episode just to be following Lestat living in his village & not even have him moving to Paris. We need special attention paid to these relationships cuz they set the foundation for how Lestat "moves" in EVERY OTHER relationship in the other books 📚 in the VC series --- most importantly, his relationship with Louis, which had its foundation set with the IWTV, where we see in that relationship in both the book & the show BEFORE we know Lestat's backstory aside from the lil' tidbits he gives us by name dropping both Magnus, "Those Who Must Be Kept," & more specifically in reference to them ---- Akasha.
And since Rolin has in so many words say they plan to keep Louis involved in the series every season despite he's not in every book, it will be interesting to see how Lestat & Louis' relationship weathers Lestat's whirlwind 🌪️, yet brief affair with Akasha, his attraction to David Talbot, and IF they decide to --- his relationship with Rowan Mayfair. I've never read any of the MW books, but I do know he & Rowan had a "thing," however brief or superficial it might have been. Maybe they already took care of that dilemma in the Season 2 finale of IWTV by having LESTAT & Louis reconcile, but in a more platonic way. So that might eliminate the jealousy factor & perhaps they might have brief romantic tryst during the course of the series, the writers may not have the 2 of them officially ENDGAME be back together until the very end of the series. Though, as long as that would take given all of the books 📚 in the VC series --- and I'd be VERY shocked if we got through a 4th of the books b4 the show was cancelled given the "Age of Streaming Services" we live in where fickle networks like Netflix will unceremoniously cancel a cult hit show *ahem 🤧* ---- "DARK CRYSTAL 🔮: AGE OF RESISTANCE" 😡!! ---- after 1 season, THE DAY AFTER IT WINS AN EMMY 🏆!! If that happens, I hope Rolin is given enough of a heads up of the shows demise to where the writers can concoct a half-way respectful to the cast, crew, & fans makeshift send off episode so tje series just doesn't end unresolved like other shows that have met the same fate ---- "DARK CRYSTAL 🔮 🧝🏾♀️🧝🏼♂️: AGE OF RESISTANCE"!! 🤬

Loius isn't even close to a dick as Armand and Lestat. He is a bit gullible but not the worst of the three characters. When Lestat tells his story it doesn't mean his version will be the absolute truth. Armand could still be playing with Louis's memory and being a puppeteer because he was in the room 90% of the time Louis was talking to Daniel. The one time he left them alone, they picked each other's brains and started to remember what happened in San Francisco.
I’ll always end up defending my Brat Prince, but I’m with you on Armand’s continued manipulation. I feel like we won’t necessarily ever know exactly what else was “tweaked”.

This has been bugging me. At the beginning of S2E8, we see the crypts that are next to where Louis is contained. Nicolas has one.
Why does Nicolas have one? He went into the fire, right? He's just ashes. It seems unlikely they would have bothered scraping them up and putting them in a large, ornate crypt,. Maybe a jar...
Or did Armand just tell Lestat that Nicolas killed himself so Lestat wouldn't come looking for Nicki? Is Nicki /actually/ still 'alive' and entombed the way Louis is? We know Nicolas was wildly out of control. And we know that Lestat was never able to find Nicolas in Heaven or Hell. Why? Maybe because he's not Dead. Maybe Armand did more than cut off his hands. I want to see that tomb opened.

@@thearticulatecoven I'll also add, they've killed off their version of Antoine who later is in NY with Armand and Sybelle. Could they be planning on letting Nicolas take his place? When I read the book, I thought Antoine was a bit like Anne saying she wished she hadn't killed Nicki off.

i kinda get it that they wanna get lestat and louie together but i dunno about the armand storyline. like why would he orchestrate the whole thing. it seems like they're portraying him as trying to be controlling but if he wants louie dead then why get back with him for decades? also lestat wasnt innocent too. he knew what was taking place. just because he saved louie doesnt make him a hero - he let louie leave with someone who wanted him dead lol
I feel like Armand's decision is more complex than that, what Armand himself said to Louis speaks volumes about the complexity of his behavior, "it's my coven of 200 years or him" he really had Sophie's choice as a dilemma, he loved louis but was a difficult choice against another difficult choice. louis would die and he would try to move on, now when lestat saved louis, he saw it as a second chance this time to also save louis. and everything escalated from decision to decision! and keeping louis under manipulation makes perfect sense, he wouldn't lose him after so much sacrifice
As we talk about in this episode, it's less that he WANTED Louis dead, than that he would have let him die to save his own hide (and also because Armand is almost always a REACTOR not an actor directly. He just "yes and"'s everyone. 😂
