I lived in an industrial shop for several years. It was great! Loud parties all hours of the day and all my motorcycles and vehicles inside.
Michael, if you read this make sure you beef up the walls between I beams to 12 in on center instead of 16 due to the span between I beams. You will need added strength to protect interior structure during bad wind events. The wind pushes against the metal sheeting which also pushes the steel runners which the steel runners are next to your homes interior walls. I had to learn this the hard way with Ida. You are still in construction phase so make sure to have your guys beef up the structure to account for straight line wind rating of 100+ mph on areas between the i beams. The metal will flex during wind storms and flex will push into your interior structure!

Should of just spray closed cell foamed it 2" thick, will increase strength up to 5 times and been the best insulation glued to the walls preventing any air against the metal panels like in other materials that stops any condensation. See Spray Jones

@@mattbrew11 Check out Spray Jones, he and others have sighted that. In the seventies they made a car the could survive high speed crashes that filled all body parts with foam. It's when the foam which is like hi strength glue which binds all the parts of the wall together that it spread shear and compression loads in many different directions that all the parts together become massively strong

Barndominiums, if built correctly are more energy efficient than block. Most used spray foam insulation. If built to withstand decent winds, 150 mph winds is achievable. As an added bonus to it being much less expensive to build, you also don't have to worry about rotting wood or moisture damage. This includes mold that builds up because of moisture as well.
They are going to increase the prices of Barns now smdh

Everything you said is good except the spray foam part. You might want to look into that a little closer.
150 miles wind is NOTHING (block can winstand better than 200 miles and gust of higher) A tornado will shred a barndomium in nothing flat (its not a matter of IF it happens its a matter of WHEN it happens)

Exactly what I want. I am a low-income artist whose idea of home is 70% workspace / 15% storage space / 15% living space. Try finding that configuration anywhere on the market.
When you build one of these. Please keep in mind to add a safe room or storm bunker. You won't regret it should you ever need to use it.

Not in Florida we are already mostly Urbanized where we can be and most properties are already owned we are not even allowed to have Farms on our backyard

@@fashionlife5348 livestock in the city benefits no one not the human nor the animal. If you want to farm you have the Redlands down in Kendall you have ranches and farms and Davie and in homestead you have to buy that type of property with the animal will be cared for in a healthy way.

I used to work in an office with a rollup door. When any amount of wind hit it, it made a helluva lot of noise; even a mild breeze caused it to rumble and clank. Also, because it was made of thin metal, it quickly radiated heat into the office during the summer and out of it during the winter. I wouldn't want to live anywhere near those rollup doors.

Having your house and place of work in the same building or compound is nothing new. Before the industrial revolution and the advent of zoning ordinances, it was the norm!

People in North Florida have been doing this for years. Many of my friends have them and I have one and we built ours about 10 years ago or more. Half of my neighbors live in farm houses. That’s what we call them.

Considering Florida doesn't have an annual cap on its property tax increase I can only imagine how crazy prop tax is going to get. It will force a lot of people to sell. That is the one good thing we have here in CA, and of course, DemRats are trying their best to eliminate it (Prop 13).

We have the same problem here in my state (in the west). The Californies are invading us. The homes and property price are through the roof, buyers offer 10-20k more than asking price. Young couples getting married have to live with parents because the cost of rent is more than a mortgage on a half a million dollar home.

They'll be pretty infamous when the hurricanes hit...there is no way that this construction withstands cat 4 hurricanes like our houses do, I dont care what he has to say to the cameras, and that's what makes them cheaper.
Barns on our property never had any problems. If we got tornados here in Florida then these would be a worse idea

@@SoulSearching1983 the only sort of tornado I've ever seen were water spouts. I've gotten warnings but never seen one or been near one
I know for a fact that I AM NOT staying in my metal building/home for a cat 3 let alone 4. We got hit with Ida here and maybe had 70+ mph winds hitting the rear of my home. It was some scary stuff. I have a metal patio that's 16x32 all galvanized 4in channels with 26ga metal roof. The patio was lifting up and down about 4 to 6 inches. I thought it was gonna lift off like a spaceship. The rear of my home "weakest area" is in my garage as i have a 24x24 garage with laundry room built inside it. You could see the walls pushing in and if you leaned against it you would be pushed back and forward. YEP this guy aint sitting in this house for a cat 3 or higher. I will invest in a safe room or build another home later when the world crashes from all these crazy prices.

Always wanted to live in an old fire house. I could take the pole down to the larger parking area. The downside to my “dream” is that old fire houses aren’t in good areas most of the time

you can have solar, multiple zones ac and good spray foam insulation can lower that bill.
You don't have to have the garage heated or cooled.

We call those “Pole Barn Houses” where I’m from. Barndominium sounds better I guess lol. I wouldn’t want to be in the path of a hurricane in one though. Our tornadoes will obliterate one.

I’ve built several and nobody I mean nobody can build them like the Amish!! Their wood peg structures are built to last. Don’t use cheap aluminum or steel structures. The main problem I see is gonna be the center of the structure no cross members and metal does bend and move in extreme heat!! Might wanna rethink your build carefully

The only real problem I see with barndominiums in Florida is that metal buildings tend to get very hot inside as metal conducts heat easily.

@@JS-zb1vv it is affordable, it completely on a case by case basis. I had solar on 2 homes and it paid off nicely.

Fix the housing crisis. I dont think people really want to live in vans , barns , busses if they could afford a house. There's going to be a huge homeless problem worse than normal ( and its pretty bad ) pretty soon. No one can afford these ridiculous rents.

I rode out Hurricane Michael in 2018 and after the dust settled none of these big metal building were standing!

That was a unfinished building, you must don't have clue about the construction industry. It will have normal walls and insulation. It would be useless building with the insulation. Would have to pay a arm and a leg to keep it cool in the summer.
It's a big mansion without the walls and rooms.

We build ours in Indiana in 2015. 2200sqft for $108k. It's worth $300k. Too bad I didn't go thru with my plan of building a few more to rent out/sell. Could of, would of, should of!!!

Good luck with your air conditioning mid summer , and trying to get insurance.Also huge taxes on a concrete slab that size unless you want to keep the floor dirt.
There's pros and cons for example certain parts of the US freeze and these would be horrible no insulation and pipes would freeze now I seen some of these with parts you can open and allow air flow through the whole house cooling it down
You don't leave it bare. Add as much insulation as you like.

The only reason this are popular now is because there cheaper and quicker to build per square ft then traditional homes.

I just watched the video and yeah, they are expensive to build unless you do all the work yourself. That guy said 4000 square foot. That's a hell of a lot. It would cost him 500,000 to 600,000 to finish it out.
