I bought my taipan when the first bunch came out about 8-10 months ago. Haven’t had an issue (so far) I’ve put approx 120-140 rounds through it so we wait and see. I feel for those that have though, $2000 is $2000! Warwick and wedgetail are both completely overpriced for what they are and when the taipan was announced it seemed too good to be true obviously for some it was
Very useful and informative. The bolt catch lever also snapped off on my Taipan Light and I have not abused the gun by any means. Interesting to see that my situation is not unique.
Great video! I was seriously considering buying the taipan due to how much cheaper it was over the Warwick, but i am so glad I ended up buying a Warwick instead. Your last review on the taipan and Warwick was a large contributing factor in me buying the Warwick instead. Can’t imagine how many disappointed taipan owners must be out there regretting their decision in buying one. Seriously piss poor for a $2000 rifle.
@@c3147897 yeah it’s pretty ridiculous that the Warwick is prohibited in some states purely because of looks. Hopefully your Taipan doesn’t have the issues the one in this video does and it’s just a few of the low serial numbers.
Hmm ok like you said quality control issues and maybe a lack of long term testing, surely a long term test by SCSA would have showed similar issues presuming they tested a few guns that were " market ready " and not prototypes. Let's hope they sort this out as the price point is achievable for most people. Keep us updated Cheers
I think the key is lack of correct testing. Its one thing to send a rifle out to a couple of dealers and asking their opinions. That's like building a car and giving it to the salesman to do the evaluation.
Love ya work, Have you managed to get a hold of the Taipan X to see if they have taken on any of your suggestions? I'm am keen to buy Australian products, but not when there junk. Cheers
Hope your black creek bison is Ok cause I got to use one on the range in Qld and it was very ordinary to say the least, Grouping in it with lots of ammo was terrible it was in 223

Very insightful review. Relative to the Warwick and OP etc, I guess you could say "you get what you pay for". But $2k is $2k so hopefully they do some remediation here.
I was looking at a Wedgetail Industries MPR308-02 but when I asked my local firearms dealer about availability, it's considered prohibited. They did say though that they have the SCSA Taipan for $1500. After looking into the Taipan, I reckon I'll save my money. Whilst I'm not fussed about the coating getting scratched (it's aluminium, it's not gonna rust), the fact that operating parts break, deform or wear out quickly, is a deal-breaker for me. Increased stoppages when it heats up, crap getting stuck in places it shouldn't and other issues leave me wondering if instead of Australian Made, it should have a stamp saying "Made in China....Badly". If somewhere down the line, the company gets its act together regarding Quality Assurance and addresses design issues such as materials, I'll certainly re-consider. But at this stage I can't afford to flush money down the toilet. On a side note, that's the worst porno mo I've seen in years! My old CSM would have a stroke if he saw that! Kudos Mate!!
Just bought one brand new a couple days ago. Havent even fired yet but ive realised the trigger is complete poo. If you gradually increase force on the trigger it will skip a bit and catch before actually releasing the firing pin. Ive contacted SCSA and they said i could drive it over to their factory for them to fix. Luckily I only live around an hours drive away but yea not the best experience.
Thanks for putting up the review. I have been happy with my Taipan so far (low serial number, low round count at this point) but will definitely be keeping an eye on those things you have pointed out. I will be disappointed if it becomes a bit of a dud.
Too many issues and that heavy trigger is a big NO for me. I prefer 1lb 15oz trigger. My Remington 7615 is faultless. I agree with you giving them feedback to improve their product.
There definitely appears to have been some significant issues with the gun. How much of the negative press is justified is difficult to tell but I don’t think 3% returns reflects the total number of issues buyers have encountered. I think those of us with doubts would feel alot better if SCSA would give us full disclosure on where the major problems have been, how many issues there have been and some technical background on how each issue has been resolved. I get the feeling they’re been as open as they could be. Having a robust warranty system is great but a robust and reliable gun is better.
got mine earlier this year, more than 1000 rounds until now, ridiculously accurate (around 0.5 MOA, Winchester super X 55gr BTHP). replaced smashed cam pin and bolt catch. nothing is grinding like in the video, might be me doing great in cleaning. i would say it is my favourite for now, yes the cerakote is a piece of garbage, trigger is kind of shitty, painful striping, painful cleaning. but here in NSW there's not much you can choose for a pump action:( if you like it you really gonna like it. but if you do mind about those wear and tear, honestly this is not the gun for you.
Mines is just over the 500 mark for serial number my trigger has been replaced and was firing on the trigger reset and bolt catch release was replaced aswell
I have a brand new (less than 30 shots fired) Taipan x and I've noticed the upper receiver damage from the firing pin on mine already - i thought this would of been resolved by now...

That comment comes from SCSA, as they openly said they marketed the rifle towards farmers and not IPSC comp shooters. It was sarcasm. As in "it doesn't matter that the rifle works apparently, its just for farmers".
