This was a great view of the race, Simon. Love the nutritional breakdown at the aid stations and your mile by mile single word descriptors which really gave insight into your state of mind and body. Prescott is a beautiful place to run. Love that Versteeg and Jamil were part of your story, your final reflections and how you light up at the sight of the lovely Nora : )
Hey Simon; what an amazing adventure, thank you for taking me along. So much of my life has been spent in Prescott and the surrounding area from family vacations to my college education and it was amazing to c you run Saddles and to c Nora’s smiling face again! I think one of your great strengths is watching you kick yourself out of the initial mental toughness the night brings and find the positive attitude again as you embrace the night ! I look forward to your next adventure
Thank you - yes it was nice to see Nora smile out there! Although not everything is solved, I think this was around the lowest point for us, and we're fighting our way out slowly but surely! :)
It's definitely "controlled crazy" - there's not so much left to chance, and it's about knowing exactly the limit of 'what is too much' and just flirt with that line but not cross it
Well a fine job of tiptoeing that line! Thank you for the inspiration, your advice certainly helped me avoid a DNF this year, or maybe it was just seeing you finish Cocodona on that foot. ❤
It just blows my mind how you’re able to push yourself to do these adventures non stop. I did the Lake Hodges 50k and I’m still recovering. Great content once again. One of your videos you mention living in Carlsbad, how amazing I work there. Also, I hope all the bad luck you mentioned in your video goes away asap. Much blessings to you guys.
You mentioned Carlsbad when I told you I was racing the lake Hodges 50k a while back in a previous message. Thank you for the inspiration and all the tips Simon. 🙏
Am I the only one who saw the “Sonic” at this exit sign!? If that’s in my last 4 miles I’m shooting for a cherry lime aid! What a great video! Glad everything came out ok at your #2 stop 😉
lol - and it's the perfect race for this because it was actually allowed in the rules to get stuff from shops (usually that would be considered receiving assistance outside of aid station and ground for DQ)
@ very very true!! We were watching it and my lady said “oh I love Prescott, you can do that one too!” My new love is show your videos to have her caption the beauty and allows me to sign up
Those deers really had no fear! Surprising tbh, but I guess in the area they interact with human on their property so often they lost the fear of mens.
Well, that looks like a great race. It’s there’s so many races out there especially from them and I think they’re how many races they do is growing by the year but I scenery. I liked it. I liked everything about the race. I’ll have to add it to my list or not.
I don't know the exact politics and ownership structure, but this one is actually NOT Aravaipa. Jam Jam had some of his crew help, but ultimately it's a Versteeg race. But yes aravaipa is growing fast and hard - expanding to North East and all
Hey good job Simon! Question, where you write down all the things you consumed in all your aid stations, is that exactly what you took in? For example, 750 mL Tailwind. Is that what you drank at that aid stations, notwithstanding what you put in your bottles?
It's the total including the segment before the aid station, and the aid station itself. Fluid is the hardest one to be accurate because you can't measure so well. So guestimate on the spot. What I do is come in aid station, empty my pockets of trash to count wrappers ("ok I had 3x gels), have some stuff on the spot, refill fluid. And once out the aid station I record myself saying that total.
Sometimes I wish I'd knew the name of the trail we use so I could provide it, giving folks the opportunity to discover when in the area. At the same time, I like sometimes (like this race) when I have literally no clue where I am, and everything is just a surprise! Even weirder was to then be on a trail and think 'hey hold up....I've been on this exact spot at cocodona!
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing this. I’m just curious…. When you post your calorie intake…. Is that the amount of calories you have between aid stations or do you consume all of that at the aid station? It looks like you eat mostly off the aid stations…. Is that true? I love your videos. You’re crushing it! So inspiring: thanks for posting these
It's both - the breakdown you see is everything I had at that aid station, and on the trail leading up to it. I think at first I mostly consume while on trail (although might down a few items at aid station). But further in the race when GI is irritated, I'll have more of those calories come from sit down item like ramen, mashed potatoes, coke. Oh and last piece - it's approx. of course. I record myself saying what I had, but items that aren't packed are hard to measure (e.g., if I had some mashed potatoes in a cup - how much was it?)
@@runningwithsimon thanks so much! I usually run with only gels and a few light treats at aid stations…. I will try this…. Thanks. I appreciate your videos! I got into Hurt 100 so that one has been helpful to watch 😃
Currently working on Diagonale des Fous / Grand Raid. Targeting release next weekend.
Versteeg is a legend! Love what he’s doing with Saddles.
Same! And the race really reflects his personality and style. You could feel it.

Thanks! I was mostly surprised to see Jam Jam and some of his crew. I guess it makes sense but just didn't expect it. Good times :)
Love it! I can't believe how many 100's your continuing to run. You're a machine! Love the videos as always!

Amazing efforts this year, just unreal! And to film so much of it is downright crazy. But the good kind of crazy, I'm pretty sure. 👏

Thanks! Oh I mentioned Carlsbad? haha I didn't know, but yes! And Hodges is where I learned and practiced MTB for Leadville 100 MTB. Small world!

i like how the deer came out to cheer you on. I see what you did there with the porta-potty shot, and ended with a toilet paper finish line tape

My ultra running journey started in Prescott so it’s nice to see you highlighting the awesome local trails! 🎉👏🏼
