If you had wisdom teeth extractions or any type of extraction and you develop dry socket pain you will heal just the same. The only real treatment done for dry socket pain is therefore just relieving the pain. There are many different home remedies to help alleviate the pain if you can't get in to see the dentist. You should get in to see the dentist as soon as you can to rule out infection or and other tooth related problems. Dry Socket is also termed Alveolar Osteitis.
Dry Socket Pain is very common with wisdom teeth extractions. Your chances of developing dry socket diminishes each tooth moving forward in the mouth and is also more common on lower teeth. You are more likely to develop dry socket if you smoke or if the extraction was particularly difficult.
Dentists use Eugenol to relieve your dry socket pain. It is the dry socket treatment of choice. However, you also can apply eugenol. Eugenol is found in clove oil which can be found in Drug Stores and stores like Walmart and CVS. You simply apply the clove oil to a cotton ball and lightly bite down repeat as much as needed. The dry socket pain should diminish within minutes.
Other forms of dry socket treatment for pain after a tooth extraction deals with taking Ibuprofen to control the pain and sleeping with your head propped up to minimize the throbbing.
If you develop dry socket you should not worry as dry socket only causes symptoms of pain and your teeth should heal without any need of dry socket treatment in the future. If you develop intense pain a few days after the extraction of a tooth this is a sign of dry socket. Normally pain that starts immediately after an extraction is just that: pain from the extraction. Dry socket is completely different and is unique in its timing for onset. Getting in to see your dentist is wise to check for any other possibilities and you possibly can get stronger pain medication.

I've had numerous teeth out due to all my medication for heart problems. And nearly all have had a dry socket..the pain is excruciating.. the last tooth I had out did get a dry socket which took over 4wks to heal .. plus be careful of what pain relief medication you take because of heart medication. They don't mix and can cause more problems than the dry socket..

Oh I forget now, everything calmed down in the end. I think things were rough for about 10 days max after my extractions. I went to see the dentist who put a seaweed and clove pack on the socket which helped.

On day 5 of having a tooth pulled. I followed all the guidelines but my blood clot was only present for 2 days Going to get some Eugenol oil today. The pain is so annoying.

I am so pissed right now. I got my 4 wisdom teeth removed about 4 days ago. Just today I felt something that I thought was food stuck in my back molars on the right upper side of my jaw and it was very annoying to me. It wouldn't come out no matter how much salt water I rinsed with, so I started using my tongue to loosen it up. It wasn't hardly painful at all and I tasted no blood coming from it, so I had no cause of concern. When I finally removed the SOB, I found- to my immediate displeasure- it was not food, but some kind of white plastic, though very small and soft. I don't know what it was or what it was for, but I do know the surgeon left it there for a reason. It also had a bad smell to it and I tasted that smell in my mouth. I know that is a sign of dry socket. There was no blood, though, so I'm praying like hell all blood clots are still in appropriate place. I really hope this is me overreacting. But I really don't know what to expect.

@@obichamberlain9667 yes it went away like on the 12th day . I made sure I didn’t make a lot of physical movements. I definitely got dry socket and didn’t go back . I just kept on taking Tylenol 500mg every 4hrs never on an empty stomach .

Please just apply a piece of raw onion to the painful area, let the juice from the onion ooze out on to the area. This is a home remedy, you can also use a piece of raw garlic. Feel better guys!

Thank you for this calm and informative video. I just went to the dentist to have my dry socket packed today and was having trouble remembering what he said I should do today. Basically just rest and minimize rinsing/drinking water... It's hurting again after having some ice cream and a very very gentle salt water rinse though, and I'm worried I'll have to go back for more of the packing 😢 I'm going to try OTC pain meds and biting down on a cooled tea bag. just got 4 wisdom teeth extracted exactly a week ago. had massive dry socket on my bottom extraction sights until yesterday. my entire bottom jaw to my cheek bones were in excruciating pain all day, because i didnt want to take ibuprofen because it would just get my hopes up about the pain going away, only for it to come back hours later. the pain is so bad. feeling way better now though after my dentist stuffed dissolvable gauze covered in clove oil inside the sockets

This is exactly the information I needed! My two lower wisdom teeth were extracted six days ago. I was still experiencing throbbing pain on both sides of my mouth. So this evening I used the syringe that my dentist gave me to irrigate the sockets. ( I was actually supposed to start this process yesterday but I forgot.) I was shocked to see food particles being flushed out since I thought I had been extra careful with my brushing and rinsing. Were these food particles causing the pain in my sockets? Are my sockets now infected? Will the sockets heal properly? After I flushed them out, the one on my left side felt somewhat better. I need to go to bed but my right socket still hurts like crazy. I just took 400 mg of Ibuprofen. I hope this helps. I'm scared to take more than that because I have been feeling dizzy and queasy all day. My post extraction checkup appt is tomorrow afternoon. I hope I can make it until then! I really thought the pain would be over by now.

Like you, my bottom jaw (sides) are still throbbing, and the whole area under my tongue has been aching terribly for four days straight, and it still hurts to open very wide. Fun, fun.
Hello! I think I went through an additional week + a couple of days of excruciating, throbbing pain. But I kept right on doing what I was supposed to do: taking the ibuprofen on schedule, brushing/irrigating the sockets regularly. It was a terrible short period of my life; I can't lie. But then one day the pain just faded, then stopped. You just have to go through it. It sucks. But the pain won't last forever. And once it's over, you will never have to experience wisdom teeth extractions ever again. God bless you!!!
@@lindataylor3834 You have not escaped. Every time that you have an extraction you will have the pain of a dry socket. Some people just get dry socket's and others do not. I get them every time that I have a tooth extracted. I have just had tooth number 32 extracted today and I am just waiting for the dry socket pain to start. It usually happens after 4 days when I think that I will not get one. I am in the purest form of HELL for 10 to 15 days. Good luck.

I've had a cavity for years now because I didnt get it filled fully because they kept hitting a nerve a piece just broke off at the back towards the gumline the tooth gave me like 3 toothaches separate times all throbbing then here recently I was eating noodles with vegetables I bit down on a small piece and I hit the nerve it hurt bad I started sweating and then I felt the cavity with my tongue and it hit the nerve that shot pain up the side of my jaw and temple those toothaches hurt bad because they last for a week most times I've also had abscessed tooth before that's misery to

My problem is I have a dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction. Today is my 9th day after extraction. My dentist said I am healing just fine when he took off the stitches on my 7th day and asked me come back after a month if pain persists and just gave me antibiotic mouthwash and painrelievers.
I am wondering though, how will the hole close if there are no blood to form blood clot? Does the swelling will continue to grow until it covers the entire hole? Or is there some anatomy random shizz that will naturally form around the hole as a replacement of blood clot? I am worried coz my dentist seems to not worry despite me worrying big time. 😢

I played harmonica immediately after tooth extraction (a wind instrument) definite NO NO. Was not told to avoid it for a couple weeks. Why i got D.S. Had to go back waited hour 10 minutes just so he drop some liquid on the affected area. No mention of blood clot, dry socket, wind intruments by dentist...Barely any counseling, advice, human compassion 851 main st weymouth mass. Lawrence Juvet DDS. never going back there.again

Clove Oil is the ONLY thing that stops the screaming pain of a dry socket. I have tried them all and ONLY CLOVE OIL WORKS. This guy is right. Without Clove Oil you will not be able to sleep and even with Clove Oil you will have to get up at night when the pain comes back again to put another Clove Oil compress on the dry socket again. My dry sockets lasted 10 to 15 days and it is pure HELL all the way. If you go back to the dentist he will use Clove Oil but he can pack it right down into the dry socket so that it stops the pain for a bit longer. You will have to have this done every day at the dentist for about 10 days so if you work you may have a problem getting there, but you can do it for your self with Clove Oil and cotton wool. Good luck.
I have pericornoitis infection on my lower right wisdom tooth it increases the risk of dry socket dose the clove oil dipped in cotton take the dry socket pain away completely does it stop the ear and headaches too? Im so scared

Did you put orajel into the actual hole or around it? I think I have dry socket cause I can see the bottom of the hole left after the tooth.

Just be careful when brushing by the extraction sites and don’t go directly over them with your toothbrush. Tilt your head to rinse your mouth out instead of swishing to prevent unwanted pressure on your gums.
If one is a sugar patient, the healing process is delayed and the post-extraction pain of the teeth persists sometimes for over a week. Diabetic patients need to control the sugar strictly on a regimental level for the wound to heal. There should be no smoking during this period.
I’m not diabetic but can sugar cause the pain to worsen?

I got my molar pull out on Friday it's been 4 days and it still hurts but not to the extreme. Problably is just the normal routine of pain. My jaw hurts and the bottom section where my molar was that's the only pain I have. How can I clean it is there anything over the counter I can buy to clean the area
I had a molar removed on Tuesday. Did yours heal ok? I'm just using saltwater rinse but gently. I am not sure if I will get a dry socket, tho. I might call my dentist tomorrow cos I'm kinda scared.

Hahaha what a scary comment. Who would go use the clove oil. But he doesn't say 2 drops, he says apply onto a cotton ball. I noticed they squirt it onto the cotton ball, so it could have been a bit more than two drops. I am extremely allergic to anti inflammatory meds. The throbbing and pain are driving me crazy. I used clove oil and it helped a lot. I got a lot that had the clove oil and tiny cotton balls and angled twizzers. I fist wet the cotton ball in warm water them squeze some of the water out and dip it in clove oil. Then use the twizzers to place the cotton ball in the hole where the tooth was. Clove oil is nasty but I wouldn't have made it through without it. (soaking the cotton ball in water first just keeps the cotton ball from absorbing so much clove oil, and I used warm water because it was really sinsative to cold) hope this helps

Oh so sorry this happened to you, my doctor prescribed the antibiotics three times a day for 7 days immediately after he pulled the tooth. He said he feared I'd have dry socket.plus I'm a transplant patient and immunosuppressed so he didn't want the infection in my tooth to get any worse. It's been 11 days and it seems to be healing well, the first two days it was horrible pain. 😬
Orajel irritated the area and caused severe pain for me, use clove oil and leave some tea in the mouth for a while instead

Well i got a minor whole in the same region from where the tooth was pulled..the dentist told me that it was deep tissue cut and i need not be worried...im not experiencing any pain but im actully worried! its my 7th day! post extraction of the tooth.

It's not a dry socket if you're not in pain...im currently in a lot of pain and will follow these instructions, im a plane flight away from my dentist and i can't afford to pay for a dentist local to me, so ill bare it for now.

Could you suggest me - I have removed my lower wisdom tooth and doctor gave me stitches. It been one now now I get several headache everyday. I read somewhere and I don’t know to try it. What I read is you can use clove oil on cotton or gauze pad. Roll them in a ball so it can sit in the dry socket (hole) and add a few drops of clove oil and place the ball in the hole. This is my 2nd dry socket. Should I try this? Orwhat is advised in the video
