Exactly my thought when I was off the anesthetics they showed me a video about what not to do the whole time I’m wondering about other things Then went home thinking everything cool until the pain started rising 😂I was only prescribed 9 800 ibuprofen pills and I’m supposed to take three pills a day the day the pills ran out I was in soooo sooo much pain I was crying in the middle of the night little mad at my dentist cause I couldn’t focus on anything else but the pain and how your supposed to treat it when the WHATS if start to happen
I gotta say...I'm a recovering addict with 8 years clean so I turned down the opiates my dentist offered after my 13 extractions two days ago......the ibprofuen and Tylenol has been absolutely amazing how well it's killed the pain. Normally with tooth infections the over the counters won't even touch the pain....for the extraction it has been absolutely effective. I wish I had gotten over my fear of dentist years ago...maybe those 13 teeth could've been saved...if your scared...just find a dentist who understands the fear. The dentist I found sat me up and helped me breathe when I had a panic attack. Told me.."I cleared up my whole morning for you. I know you have a fear of this. We can sit here for an hour if you need it. We are going to do this together and I promise I will do the best job I possibly can." He made me feel like I was a human being a customer and a patient all at once. Find your right dentist and I promise your quality of life will go up after extraction....I'm still healing as this was three days ago BUT the pain of the extractions is NOTHING compared to the constant dental abscess pain I had for years prior.

Same for me, couldn’t do any narcotics. Got all 4 out and ibuprofen, aleve, and acetaminophen does the trick just fine. Absolutely no pain at all for me on day 3, and didn’t have any on day 1 or 2 really either.
I'm 24 hours out from my surgery. This video was great. I have been blessed to have such a caring dentist. He checked on me last night to make sure I was okay.
1:05 take every 6 hrs whether in pain or no Ibu - swelling good, pain ok Tyl- pain good, swelling ok Do together 2:35 - caffeine helps pain meds hit better 3:15 - ice pack
A good suggestion is to gargle gently with salt water (do not use warm/hot water) and avoid spitting in the first few days. Supplement with protein shakes, zinc, vitamin C, D, magnesium to accelerate the healing process. Also, bone broth are excellent to help with bone healing. Hope this help anyone.
My husband just had a full mouth extraction and the dentist didn’t tell us anything in regards to the medications. The nurses just kept saying to do as the doctor advised. So I guess we go off of what the prescription bottle says. Very disappointed it that clinic. I am glad to run into this video to get the information we need to assist my husband on feeling more comfortable. Thank you 🙏🏼

I have been on meds since around the clock but I will add the coffee cause this pain ain’t no joke. This information was very informative. My doctor was great and she took her time with me also. Dr. Hanna thanks a lot for comforting me as this was an life changing experience for me that she made very comforting ❤
Thanks for the advice! I had an infected molar out 6 days a go with a few surgical complications. Took about 40 minutes in total and absolute agony despite 3 doses of local anaesthetic. I had SO much anxiety over the last week because being in constant pain really affects your mental health. I followed this advice exactly (except I use salt water instead of mouthwash) and day 6 I am almost entirely pain free! No swelling, no aching, nothing! I am basically back to normal now with just some ibuprofen here and there. This video helped me so much and really calmed my anxiety. Thank you!

If you’re reading this, and about to get yours out, don’t be scared, I was terrified. I got all 4 of mine out and there was nothing to be worried about. I’m on day three with absolutely no pain and can eat pretty good already. Also Sleeping just fine. Just do everything your doctor says and take your medicine and you will be fine. had hardly any swelling. I literally have no pain at all from all three days and I got no prescription narcotics, just ibuprofen and antibiotics.
Very helpful, thanks. Wearing my new braces for about a week now and my Orthodontist will be extracting 4 teeth in about 10 day from now. It sounds scary to me, especially when my mouth and teeth is already sore from eating, biting or chewing even soft food.
@@slim09bella13 thats crazy how differently it effects people. sorry to hear that, idk how but i had virtually no pain and all i took was tylenol and advil. everyone is different so i would try to find someting to give you relief and try to tuff it out for a day or two, mouths heals really fast so you should be good in a few days.
This is the most informative and useful aftercare video I have ever seen. I have just gotten my teeth extracted and I have followed the guideline my doctor gave me but nothing helped until this. Chuu said coffee and I ran and made my coffee. I got Tylenol (the super ones) and the ice I have been doing for a while. As soon as I followed your instructions, I felt SOOOOOOOOO much better. Especially the coffee. The pain is there but it's gotten less and less and I have never felt pain like this before (and that's saying a lot) so THANK YOU!
This is the best video I have watched for after wisdom tooth removal care!! I’ve had lots of pain due to a unexpected dry socket that was treated (today) after seven days of pain with meds. I do believe that I followed all the do’s and don’ts. My dentist said my case is not common at all. Now I wait for relief. Thank you
Thanks for sharing, I'm scared I have dry socket I have extreme swelling but I'm taking so much advil and Tylenol so the pain doesn't come how do I no if its dry socket
Note: "One can actually overdose on acetaminophen" so take Tylenol and other acetaminophen "active ingredient" medications very seriously. I am a label reader and before giving my grandmother her prescribed medication - recalled the "overdose" warning re: acetaminophen and called a pharmacist. They responded:; It's good that you called - because she would have exceeded the level tolerated and she may have ? A key active ingredient of her just prescribed medication was - acetaminophen. A primary medication that she had already been taking.
I just had had 3 teeth extractions at once today. I had 2 appointments, but the dentist said that it's better for my nerves to have all 3 removed at once. I was so anxious about it, but I had to choose between jaw surgery and teeth extraction, so I can get braces. Thank you for this video,it helps me so much. My doctor said too,but I was so nervous and scared, that didn't really get to my brain.
I too, also had to get 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted this past Monday. Hoping to get all of other teeth cleaning to be able to get braces. Have you gotten your braces yet?
@@aceport3599 Not yet, I had appointment last month, but just before the appointment I got a call from the assistant, that the doctor is sick so I got a new one on 16th of may. I had a bad experience after, with one I had problems, it was an infection. How long you have to wear the braces? The plan for me it's between 2 and 2.5 years. 😀
Thank you. This video is very helpful with detailed instruction. It is more helpful than the dentist treatment where no such visual details are provided.
I go tomorrow for full extractions. I was kind of nervous about aftercare but I'm so glad I came across this video, now I'm a little more at ease. Appreciate it!
I absolutely did everything wrong. First gauze was full of blood. Rinsed out my bloody mouth and spit three times. Kept switching gauze out every 15 min. Last gauze was somewhat tinged - immediately drank a strawberry banana milkshake. Realized the strawberries have those little seeds, switched to mashed potatoes. All within 2 hours of getting home. I'm within 24 hrs of extraction and not looking forward to day 3! 😭😭
Girl RIP just keep doing the right steps from here on. I was spitting and switching gauze yesterday too until i realized im not supposed to! We got this! I just got my tooth extracted yesterday lol
Well my surgery is March 2nd. I’m going to rely on Ibuprofen 800 and Tylenol 1000 mg. I think as long as kidney failure isn’t an issue it helps so much more. Also I’ve notice that they’ve called in Amoxicillin 500 mg. I am going to reach out and ask that they increase that dosage to 875/125 . There’s so much a danger of antibiotic resistance. To me as a 23 year ED RN Amoxicillin 500 mg is a child’s dosage for an ear infection. Yogurt is the way to go for immune system that the antibiotic decreases the normal flora. Also I think liquid protein shakes is also important to aid with immune system strength and decrease that healing time .
Thank you! You are an ER nurse? I can only imagine how much great info you've got. Isn't antibiotic resistance a general population thing, and not an individual thing? What kind of yogurt would you specifically get?
I'm a nurse too and I avoid ibuprofen and Tylenol if at all possible both are very hard on your body . I recommend don't take more than you need . I haven't taken anything after my tooth extraction and implant toughing it out.
@@allisondavidson6834Did you take any amoxicillin after tooth extraction ? Is it necessary to take antibiotic after tooth extraction ? I don't really like taking medicine too. Thanks
Just wanna echo that about the antibiotics. They should start working in a few days, and yes that’s great, but finish the entire course as it’s been prescribed. I’ve talked to so many people who stop taking their antibiotics after they notice they’ve worked. They wanted to save the extra for a rainy day. Pleeeeease don’t do that. You need to finish them all. Never save up antibiotics and take them at a later time for something different. Take them all, and always consult your doctor any time you may feel you’ll need antibiotics for any reason.
Brilliant video- this what helps a person recover from a surgical procedure Point by point explanation- taking the time to cover all sub topics, right from medication, do’s & don’ts, diet type, exercise etc Lot of clarity in the explanation & thought process If a medical professional is able to explain all of this to their patients, recovery & success rate is higher- most surgeons lay more stress on the surgery and not post operative And making a detailed explanation video is an effort that pays off Thank you for this video & hope other medical professionals learn from this ( or send this video to their patients, if they can)
I had my upper teeth pulled yesterday and they have polident to keep dentures in but they want you to wash 3-4 times a day with salt water. So do take them out and wash them and rinse with salt water and then reapply polident
@@kandywiggins9380 it is advisable not to use polident post extraction, wait for a few days before using denture adhesive. Continue warm salt water rinses for the quick healing of extracted teeth
This sounds like sound and healthy advice. However, some people do not respond to over the counter medicines. It’s actually a very personal choice. Try the Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen route if you are not allergic to them. My sister became very sick from her own “healthy” choice of Advil. So, I watched over her as she struggled with both pain and restlessness. Finally, she could not get the sleep and rest she needed. Thus,I had her take the prescribed med, just ONE, and she felt much better. The next morning she woke without any pain, ate a simple breakfast and felt fine! Listen to your own doctor. Always be mindful of your recovery, rest, and level of pain. He/she knows you and prescribes as he/she sees fit. Always discuss your medication with your doctor.
I had complete extraction, and i was sore, but just about pain free... I mean, it was a world of difference. I was given a zpac to take along with my ibuprofen. The first 3 days, all I could do was have popsicles, which felt amazing on my gums (yes I rinsed after having them). I got my dentures the day after my surgery, and they made my mouth hurt, so I didn't wear them all the time the first couple of days, aside from the facetimes with my family and friends. I can safely say that I am happy with my smile for the first time in my life, and it doesn;t look fake at all,.. and these aren't even my good ones... so it is only getting better.
Hello Dr. " *Consult your physician before taking any medications" is why I responded with the added information which I learned more about by having done just that. I just had an extraction. Oh man. My roots are crazy long so they had to drill it out in quadrants. The nitrous did nothing for the pain. I just took your 3 to 1 cocktail. Let’s pray no dry socket happens.
yikes! any updates? i am having my bottom right hand side second to the back side tooth taken out and i literally had the same procedure on the left lower side last year so its kinda ironic. but this one actually had a issue in the past with bacteria and such.. so im nervous again but im just glad it’ll be gone after tomorow!

Thank you for this! So far this video has been the best I’ve come across regarding post-care. This was very helpful explaining the process and well organized. Great job and keep up the great work. Good luck to everyone on their journey to healing, may it be quick and painless as possible. P.S This is day 1 since my surgery and have been in excruciating pain!!! So far, ice cream and Advil have been very comforting and helpful in relieving any pain. Although, I don’t know how long it will last. I might have to take Tylenol in addition to manage with the pain.
@@thegumdentist please tell me, how do i know if im bleeding too much or not? I mean when I spit a bit it is really almost completely red, but its not like its draining blood out of my mouth xD
@sssdias5667 Great questions. Personally, I don't worry about the acidity of coffee/tea too much since it isn't that acidic. Using mouthwash 24 hours after surgery is okay. The clot that formed should be stable by then. 🙂

Glad I came across this video. I got 2 teeth extracted last Friday & I gotta get 2 more extracted next Friday. I’m not feeling much pain anymore but it is kind of still sore.
Salt water is good for rinsing out your mouth especially after extraction that keep bleeding. Salt water kills of any germs. It cheap which is what we all are needing of late. I had my extractions done five weeks ago and I am healing extremely well. Mind my dental surgeon also prescribed a course of antibiotics. Having knee prosthetics it's important that I don't get any infection in my blood. Eat soft foods and rest.
Really nice explanation indeed..!! To sum up... keep wet (not soaking wet) gauze piece (not cotton) on the extraction site for 30 to 45minutes... apply a constant, light, firm pressure with teeth to help in clotting Remove the gauze after 30/40 minutes with your hands.. do not spit it out immediately after have something cold,an ice cream preferably.. donot suck onto it and if having cold juice donot have it with a straw and no carbonated drinks (basically no sucking) Have yours medications after this spitting not allowed for 24hours.. no licking or checking of wound allowed for 24hours after completion of 24 hours.. start with warm saline rinses(luke warm water) thrice daily brush your teeth regularly with soft bristles.. do not brush over extraction socket and use a mouthwash 10 min post brushing.. do not eat of drink for another 10 min extraction wound is just like any other wound.. any aggressive activity like sucking, spitting, licking, coughing too hard might dislodge the wound, hence avoid them For anybody undergone lower jaw 3rd molar extraction..mouth opening exercises should be started 24 hours after the extraction to maintain good mouth opening
also, donot apply cold compacts after 24hours.. donot have anything too spicy of hot for 72 hours do a gentle mouth wash after every meal and chew food from the other side
My dentist did not tell me this at all! I asked how to keep it clean and he said no mouth wash and not to brush my teeth. He also didn’t tell me no berries 😩 I just had a smoothie with berries. He didn’t say not to lick it and I asked what should I not do and he said no crunchy, no smoking, and no hot food. That’s it then he said I will be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks! I had 2 molars removed. 1 on each side and I’m so sad because I didn’t know they were pulling same day as my first appointment! I was hungry!
Wow! This information was so helpful as the only info I was given was to take Ibuprofin. Face was swollen the on/off icing is helping already. Meds to take & how/when also very good advice. Thank you!
My question is: How long are the blood clots to stay in one's mouth and how are they to be removed? I've read their importance, I've just had 3 wisdom teeth extractions. Thanks very much! -💚*🙏🏽
Ice and cold drinks had a strange effect on me. They took the pain away but once my mouth started to warm up naturally again the pain was horrific. Then I drank more ice water and pain gone in seconds. My dentist told me the cold forces the blood out of the area and when it warms up new blood rushes back in and this can make all the nerve endings very sensitive. I chose not to do this as the pain was unbearable. I found most comfort keeping my mouth at normal temperature and using benzocaine gel and lozenges like Strepsils with numbing agent in them. The antibiotics made my mind ‘spin’ and made me nauseous so I stopped them. Day 3 post molar removal. Good luck everyone. 😅
I had all of my upper teeth removed today, and this advice reinforced a lot of what my dentist told me. In about 2-1/2 weeks it will be the lower teeth. One thing I would like to add is this: I have chronic kidney disease (CKD) so I REALLY shouldn’t take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDS) like Ibuprofen or naproxen. Instead she gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 which includes Codeine which is working pretty well.
I had upper and lower removed yesterday July 2 , 2024. No immediate dentures. At home now recovering. Frozen peas on cheeks . Bleeding is slowing down after 24 hours. Almost stopped. Pain is tolerable with Tramadol pain med he prescribed.

My tooth was difficult to removes because it broke up and came out in pieces. A lot of hammering on tooth to remove it. They were also able to put the Post in the jaw bone at the same time. Left the Periodontist office and the pain shots were beginning to wear off. Some discomfort, but not what I would describe as pain. Have taken 2 Tylenols every 4 hours even continuing now 2 1/2 days after procedure, but I think I have very little discomfort now and will probably stop Tylenol tomorrow. Have a pain prescription, but I haven't needed to take pain prescription. Also took 4 Antibiotics 1 hour prior to surgery and 1 antibiotics every 8 hours since surgery. So have no regrets everything went well and would get it again if needed. Cost was $2,720 for the implant procedure and post. Did not include crown which will be placed in about 4 months by my regular Dentist. Good Luck to you. 😁

Smh ….thank the doctor and do you. or get your own channel. You don’t even know how rude your input was. Sit down
Thank you! You are an ER nurse? I can only imagine how much great info you've got. Isn't antibiotic resistance a general population thing, and not an individual thing? What kind of yogurt would you specifically get?
Enjoy your stomach ulcer with all that ibuprofen 🙈🙈🙈
I'm a nurse too and I avoid ibuprofen and Tylenol if at all possible both are very hard on your body . I recommend don't take more than you need . I haven't taken anything after my tooth extraction and implant toughing it out.
@@allisondavidson6834Did you take any amoxicillin after tooth extraction ? Is it necessary to take antibiotic after tooth extraction ? I don't really like taking medicine too. Thanks
Your advice was better than all of the dentist that I have been to
Just wanna echo that about the antibiotics.
Brilliant video- this what helps a person recover from a surgical procedure
Point by point explanation- taking the time to cover all sub topics, right from medication, do’s & don’ts, diet type, exercise etc
Lot of clarity in the explanation & thought process
If a medical professional is able to explain all of this to their patients, recovery & success rate is higher- most surgeons lay more stress on the surgery and not post operative
And making a detailed explanation video is an effort that pays off
Thank you for this video & hope other medical professionals learn from this ( or send this video to their patients, if they can)
I had my upper teeth pulled yesterday and they have polident to keep dentures in but they want you to wash 3-4 times a day with salt water.
Excellent post-op information! Thank you for taking the time to film it and provide it here.
Thank you Doctor. This video was very helpful after my 12 tooth extraction. I hope that you're having a blessed day.

To sum up...
keep wet (not soaking wet) gauze piece (not cotton) on the extraction site for 30 to 45minutes... apply a constant, light, firm pressure with teeth to help in clotting
Remove the gauze after 30/40 minutes with your hands.. do not spit it out
immediately after have something cold,an ice cream preferably.. donot suck onto it and if having cold juice donot have it with a straw and no carbonated drinks (basically no sucking)
Have yours medications after this
spitting not allowed for 24hours..
no licking or checking of wound allowed for 24hours
after completion of 24 hours.. start with warm saline rinses(luke warm water) thrice daily
brush your teeth regularly with soft bristles.. do not brush over extraction socket and use a mouthwash 10 min post brushing.. do not eat of drink for another 10 min
extraction wound is just like any other wound.. any aggressive activity like sucking, spitting, licking, coughing too hard might dislodge the wound, hence avoid them
For anybody undergone lower jaw 3rd molar extraction..mouth opening exercises should be started 24 hours after the extraction to maintain good mouth opening
also, donot apply cold compacts after 24hours.. donot have anything too spicy of hot for 72 hours
do a gentle mouth wash after every meal
and chew food from the other side
My dentist did not tell me this at all! I asked how to keep it clean and he said no mouth wash and not to brush my teeth. He also didn’t tell me no berries 😩 I just had a smoothie with berries. He didn’t say not to lick it and I asked what should I not do and he said no crunchy, no smoking, and no hot food. That’s it then he said I will be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks! I had 2 molars removed. 1 on each side and I’m so sad because I didn’t know they were pulling same day as my first appointment! I was hungry!
How has it been for you? I am kinda in the same boat as you. What did you eat in those first two weeks?
I still have pain after 6 days do I need to keep taking the medications?

Such an empowering video. Prepping for molar extraction next week then deep impacted wisdom teeth surgery in some months to come.
I'm just 24 hours after surgery.. Very helpful content.Thank you, Dr.
Great video and the way you present is fantastic!
Thank you for the precious tips!!!
Could I ask you one quick question? I am a daily runner. When will it be alright to resume running after a tooth infection?
Great, useful advice that I will certainly employ today - day 3 after extraction and my dentist never mentioned pain relief or ibuprofen 😞
They tell you that even In Mexico, my husband goes there,I won't🙄
Sea salt y’all rinse with sea salt…. Brush with hydrogen peroxide! I had a massive infection before being able to have my impacted wisdom tooth removed!!!! It took me a month on antibiotics still having the infection and ending up being admitted… Changed my products and moth care routine to all natural it was gone in 3 days!!!
Hope this helps!
how much sea salt? more on the peroxide please? you were admitted to the hospital?
I had my one of my upper back tooth pulled two days ago. I haven't had any pain. I have pain medication in case anything change . The swelling already came down from my face. Thank you for sharing those helpful information.
thanks for the information it's really helpful. it's my 2-day 6 implant surgery. I forgot what my dentist said. I only take antibiotics because im not feel pain. Im just worried my swelling face but i will wait for more days to recover.
I am in day 5 post extraction. The first 2 days my mouth and tongue were really sore. On day 3 the soreness from my mouth went away but my extraction area started to hurt really bad. Now a lot of the swelling went a way but I get these intermittent throbbing pain on the whole side of my mouth. I tried to eat a boiled egg this morning and it hurts to open my mouth. This video was very informative. I have done a lot of don't described in the video which explains why I have these pains. I noticed the throbbing pain shortly I ate something sticky and later something came out of the extracted area. I can feel some nerve pain but not as much as I did yesterday.
On some patients the anesthesia wears away quick and on some it doesn't so it gives more time for swelling to go down. Sleeping I. A sitting position helps. Using a recliner in a. Almost sitting position helps alot.✌️🙏
If something came out I think you should go get that checked out because my doctor said “I don’t want to pull out what they put in the socket because it will expose nerves. I haven’t played yet.
yes I'm on day 4 n started feeling the same on day 3 where my teeth were extracted area was hurting more
I had implant 03/2024 in Houston, TX area. Little discomfort during procedure except some from deadening shots. Entire procedure took about 65 to 70 minutes. 😁
Dentists in LA, CA charge 10K + per implant tooth!! Your price is a bargain. Hope all goes well. U just started your journey of total healing.
How interesting. I was actually told to stay away from caffeine and there you are recommending it. I normally have at least one or two cups of coffee in the morning and I really missed it those first few days after getting my tooth pulled.
