Caroline Hirons and I have in the past seen several dermatologist about this and tried antifungal medicin, antibiotics and vitamins🙄 Next I am dropping sls from my haircare. Can’t wait to see what that will do😃 Thank you one more time❤️
I've had a couple of bouts of this as well. Then I read somewhere to use Listerine. So I tried some on a q-tip and it was gone in a couple of days. Haven't had it since.
I have the same issue...figured it out on my own several years ago after being told it was everything else by any medical professional I asked (& some I didn’t!) My fave toothpaste brand is now “Hello”, which has wonderfully become more & more easy to find locally in the US which is an added bonus. It is quite reasonably priced, there are options w/ & w/ our fluoride, various flavors, & the tubes are even cute IMO & stand up, which is a little thing but something I quite like & consider to be an added bonus. Highly recommend checking it out!
P.S.There is a store finder on their website.
It makes such a difference! No SLS anywhere above my neck... my face is clearer (cutting back on dairy also helped that), my scalp less irritated, fewer canker sores/ulcers in my mouth.
A lot of the sensodyne toothpastes are SLS free and still give benefits of fluoride etc 🙂

Hi Caroline. I’ve been following your Blog/YT for a few years now and have learnt so much, I just wanted to thank you because you finally got me to stop smoking! I spend hundreds on skincare but what’s the point if I smoke!? Skincare has become my passion and I have a routine that I follow religiously am/pm. The fact that you’ve taught me how to care for my skin meant I had to quit smoking. (I don’t drink either), but that’s because alcohol doesn’t agree with me.
Anyway I’ve noticed a vast improvement in the performance of the products I use and my skin in general and it was upon your advice that finally convinced me to kick the habit! So thank you very much! 8 months smoke-free! Now I just have to sort out the diet... ☺️ xxx

Caroline I have spent my whole life in the hairdressing industry, working for a large manufacturer of professional hair products . I was an educator for nearly 20 yrs. Please Please try a Wella professionals product called Liquid Hair from the SP range it will soooo help with you’re breakage , also Repair treatment just try it , happy to help with any Q you might have about it .

As a dentist I would strongly recommend using a fluoride toothpaste. That's the key benefit of toothpaste. You'd rather just not use toothpaste at all if you're going to use a fluoride - free toothpaste as it won't have any benefit on your oral health. Many brands do sls free toothpastes with fluoride 👍🏻
Sensodyne sls-free is probably the most easiest available

I love it when there are sensible dental replies!! Makes me happy. Amen to the Fluoride and Sensodyne being wise to SLS free.
My favorite is the Hello brand, which is ADA approved & a great option for any cruelty free &/ or vegan shoppers! They do make some that are fluoride free but most, including any I’ve found in stores, do contain fluoride. They make more traditional flavors as well as some that are more unique & have options for kids, whitening, & sensitivity. I used to have to order online but in recent years it’s being carried in more & more stores here in the US including many Targets, Walmarts, Meijers, CVS, & Krogers. I’m not sure about availability outside the US but there’s a store finder on their website.
PS It also stands up on the counter, which I know sounds like a silly detail but which I really like! And the tubes are IMO pretty good looking!
Caroline Hirons I swear by hydrogen peroxide 3% for PERMANENTLY getting rid of perioral dermatitis . Put on a q-tip, target the bumps ONLY until they fizz/go white . Sounds bad , but trust me it zaps the system 200% of the bacteria causing the spread . And I can honestly report that I have got very good , healthy skin ... Did it 5 yrs ago, never had another outbreak and I have no skin damage or scars around mouth..... It clears up the bacteria better than ANY medication . Takes a few goes but it's the only thing that clears it at a deep systemic level . Ppl are always horrified , but trust me it WORKS & my skin is v clear . PS ... I have always used Sensodyne so it wasn't my toothpaste that caused it in the first case . Just a tried, tested and proven remedy in case your's returns .

Sensodyne is the only toothpaste brand that has a few toothpastes that doesn’t have SLS. My dermo also pointed out that I get the breakouts at the corners of my mouth. It’s made a huge difference. It’s sad that it’s difficult to find any products without SLS.

If you like the Hask monoi conditioner you will LOVE the Hask Kalahari oil deep repair treatment mask. It is a total lifesaver! You can get it (& other Hask products) from Superdrug and it's usually on offer for under £2 a sachet 💕
Primark (Penny’s in Ireland) stock Hask at least in Ireland. They may do in the UK too. I know they always have the Argan oil one so may have the coconut. I think I’ve seen it in Boots too sometimes.

Zendium toothpaste is without SLS but with fluoride which is the key benefit in toothpaste.
I bleach my hair and honestly, the only thing to stop breakage is Olaplex or the Smartbond from Loreal. Try it and it will change your life! :)

Hask is available in Sally Beauty, Ulta and drugstores. They have a henna infused mask that is *excellent* for repairing damaged hair. It doesn't change hair colour.
Hey Caroline, would you consider doing a video on skincare ingredients to avoid? I know formula is king and ingredients can be dependent on the skin using them, but it would be helpful to know common irritants or cheap filler ingredients to look out for

Dear Caroline, I had the same issue with the area around my mouth. I switched over tot toothpaste without fluoride as well and indeed like you have experienced within days it I had my smooth lips back. If you are looking for another SLS-free toothpaste I can recommand the toothpaste from Weleda. It really easy to get hold of. I like the green and the blue one the most. I think many women suffer with dry chapped lips because of their toothpaste. I'm really glad you sharing your experiences with us. With love from the Netherlands XXX Anna
I have had hair issues too. I use camellia oil on my hair at night & wash it in the morning. My hair sucks it up overnight. I apply using my fingertips on the ends & massage a little that’s left on my scalp. Works well on frizzy bits too. I read about camellia oil while researching about Japan. They have gorgeous hair. Hope this helps.

That Hask Manoi coconut oil also comes in these tiny test tube sizes (seen in CVS or the like). I always grab one when I'm heading to the beach or at the beginning of summer. It's the best cheap little treat for dry hair!

Glad you’re back! I tried the Avon Anew retinol but something in the number 1 end stung my skin. I use acid toners so u don’t think it was the glycolic in it. I passed it to a friend who loves it however!

You should try some serums & oils for your damaged hair, as much as you take care of your skin you should add a step to your hair. There is all kinds out there, you can even mix a couple drops of olive oil into your conditioners before applying (but keep it away from the scalp if you do) there is so much you can do past just conditioner. I can remember being a small child and my mom would "finish" our hair after we got out of the shower, my sister and I grew up with hair past our hips and so did our mom but hers was glorious in the way only a hispanic woman can have (if you know what I mean) now she's old and has arthritis in her fingers so she can't manage anything past her shoulders.
Agreed. Hair oils have made such a difference in how my hair responds and they are so inexpensive compared to mass market conditioners. I look for organics in the food aisle. My hair is flourishing.
If you are looking for a brand that can be found here and the US Sensodyne Pronamel is Sls free (target sells a travel sized version too) . I thought I had acne until I realised it was an Sls sensitivity, at it's worst orally. It's also worth checking mouthwash for Sls too as some also have it.
Hi Caroline! I too had to switch toothpaste a few years ago. For me the difficulty is SLS. Just a heads up some medications contain SLS, at least in Canada, to my surprise 😬. Let's just say I will always read all the ingredients from now on lesson learned.

I started taking fish oils everyday after the advice on Caroline’s blog, and the cysts seem to have cleared up, I have forgotten to take the oils for a few days twice since starting them back in October ish time and have ended up with a cyst acne each time, I’m convinced the oils have helped!
Caroline, have you tried any of the Briogeo hair products? They are a 6 free hair care line. Would love to hear your thoughts on it!

Hask has come out with amazing new products leave in conditioners masks etc .. o bought the stuff T Walgreens o think you will love it o have same hair issues. I normally use kerastase chronologiste it expensive so I try to use sparingly .. I use hask shampoo and conditioner in between and super happy with the results! I use the styling products everyday !

Hi Caroline and Happy New Year!!! Sorry to hear you had the flu, we had a lot of clients come down with the flu and chest infections!!! Back to skincare I ordered the Indeed products and find the retinol reface really mild with no reactions at all , no redness at all. I also ordered the Hydraluron cream, 10 balm and synoxin11 so all I need is the eye cream. I have ordered the Avon infinite effects and look forward to this as I love the Avon Anew products!!!
