There's 4 or 5 episodes where the writing was simply perfection for the entire 22 minutes. Not a line, not a word out of place. This is one of them. Masterpiece.

@@guiagaston7273what hairdresser soap opera episode are u talkin about? The barber? Or the wig master? Cuz yeah I admit the wig master one was a lil weird, but it was still funny to see Kramer dressed up as a pimp. And the opera one isnt one of my favorites but George and Kramer scalping tickets was hilarious! The point is even if it isnt one of their better episodes its still got funny parts with these characters. That's what makes this show so good. They did 180 episodes. Of course there's gonna be some episodes that aren't as good or as funny as other episodes. But I guarantee every episode will make ppl laugh and it is a great show as a whole. It seems like ur just tryin to hate and be negative and pick apart a great show over a couple episodes that weren't to ur liking

The reason this works so well for George isn’t because he’s ignoring common sense, he has always let the worst of his character traits take control over his actions. He had convinced himself that those traits were his common sense so what he thinks is being the opposite is actually just him finally taking some control over his life. Additionally he starts saying what he thinks, not brown nosing, not being a yes man, he takes initiative and is confident in his decision making; he doesn’t take the time to psych himself out of it.
Fantastic writing and acting. The structure for this episode, the jokes, the scenarios are just amazing.

I remember see this when I was younger and thinking 'NO WAY would he get a woman saying "My name is George, I'm unemployed and I live with my parents"' like many commenters here are saying. But now I get it. She respected his brazen honesty. He had the balls to approach her, even though he had nothing going for him and didn't try to hid this fact. If had lied or danced around the topic and tried to sugercoat it she wouldn't have been interested. It probably set him apart from all the other lying jerks she dated. Also some women love mysterious men, "Who ARE you George Costanza." (And his answer "I'm the complete opposite of every man you've ever dated.") And she was also in a position to help him and got him a job. I know not all women are like this, but the more you think about it it actually is somewhat believable.

Everyone should take at least a yearly “Opposite Day”. Not the SpongeBob type but the George kind. I tried it once and it was awesome. Really helps to get your head out of your own ass. I probably do it every couple of months now. Whatever your first instinct is, do the opposite. Your first instinct, btw, is not the same as “the first thing that pops into your head”. Your first instinct is that default behavior that makes you feel the most safe and comfortable. Like if you meet someone, your first thought is to say hello, but your first instinct is how you go about doing it - the usual comfortable way.

But I would like to know why you said "your first thought", and the first time you said “the first thing that pops into your head”, and I find that is more about reflexes, maybe social reflexes than it is about thoughts. When you see a person it is a reflex to say hello, not really a thought. Would you care to explain your nuances? I am really not nitpicking it's just that your comment gave me a lot to think about and I would like to better understand what you meant.

And people would walk into a room when the show was on and they'd stop in their tracks and stop paying attention to other people and couldn't help but start watching it even though they were doing other stuff and then when a commercial came on you'd suddenly look around and notice that everyone was just as thrilled and excited as you were.
