  • Welcome back - thanks for joining me again! This week, we have returned to the beautiful Fife coastal path - picking up where we left off in Episode 3 at St Monans. From here we explore the remains of a 200-year-old saltpan works, on the way to what could be Scotland's most beautiful village.
Pittenweem was recently named Scotland's number one beauty spot for 2022 - join me as I explore this quaint little village and find out if it lives up to its reputation! Cute cottages and royally-approved fish & chips await us on our adventure...

Every one of these videos brings back so many memories of my year in Scotland and all the places I got to travel to. I remember Anstruther and the fish and chip shop. How lovely to see it again after so many years and to know that this place is still going strong. Thank you for this trip down memory lane and for your beautiful paintings. I miss the smell of coconuts from the gorse.

Back in the '90s, I heard Brian McNeill (Falkirk) & Ed Miller (Edinburgh, now in Austin, TX) performing for several years in a row, at the North Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games. One of the songs they sang was about Pittenweem. In 2001, I had the opportunity to take a vacation with my parents to Scotland, and we drove along the scenic coast, from Edinburgh to St. Andrews. Your video shows that the coastal walk is really beautiful.

I've been noticing the first signs of spring too, in the past fortnight I've saw my first daffodil, just one lonely defiant one on it's own, and snowdrops, and last night I heard the first seagull of the summer on the roofs in my street, they nest here every summer and are a menace to every living thing, I've seen them chase a fox out of the street 🤣
Your painting was just amazing, I read it took you 10 - 12 hours! I'm not surprised, with all those spines in every direction, but you nailed it.

Have you ever thought of painting Jack or castle ruins? You have so much talent with your eye for shades, shapes and color. I have always loved castles. If you like sea glass you should take a trip to Elie. There is a little bay there nicknamed 'Ruby Bay' where you can pick up small garnets (only a few mm diameter). If you do a youtube search for Ruby Bay there are a few videos about it. Loved the scenery on this one - the Fife coast is a very under rated place.

Great walk. One of the places we have visited. August this year is the Pittenweem arts festival. Which is well worth a visit. People use their homes to exhibit the artist work, with some artist present. No, I don't work for them. Nice info on the salt works. Scottish traditional sea salt manufacturing is making a comeback.

I presume the tide is out in this video, but I really hate all that spooky black rock for a 'beach' - it looks as tho it's volcanic which is very odd. The village is very nice & the walk along that path must have been lovely & bracing with the sea breezes. Thank you for your video !

Wonderful scenery as always Sarah, I love the beautiful yellow of the gorse and daffodils, the shall house was impressive and a great handful of sea glass especially for someone who doesn't usually pick it up. you are right about the glass in one of the small bottles, if it is clear put it where the sun will hit it and it will almost glow. Are the spines of the gorse stiff and prickly or soft? Beautiful painting!!

    • @shewalksshepaints

Thanks Debbie!! I think I found one of the sea-glass hotspots by accident - there are lots of good places for it on the north east coast of the UK. Gorse spines are very very prickly! I definitely advise not getting to close…as you can see in the wee clip at the end of the video 😅

Hey! I'm from Anstruther (well, Cellardyke actually which is the next village along but they're attached so I still say Anstruther sometimes.)
If you pause the video at 18:28 and look over to the right side of the harbour, you see a blue and white boat berthed on its own. That's the May Princess that takes visitors out to the Isle of May 5 miles off the coast.
It's a nature reserve with around 250 000 sea birds art peak times (June, July & August).
    I work on the boat.
But about the village and area in general, I'm born and raised and love it with all my heart. When my time comes to pass, I want to be here as well. Wonderful place.
Highly recommend the Fish and Chip shops (there are 3) but also recommend the Indian restaurant called Eastern Touch. A favourite of mine!

Hi Scott!! We actually visited Cellardyke in another walk on the Fife Coastal Path (episode 29 I think). I loved it - so much quieter than some of the other villages in that area. I’d love to visit the Isle of May sometime 😊

@@shewalksshepaints glad you liked our wee corner of Fife.
The Isle of May is so worth it. I know it might seem like I'm shamelessly plugging the business, but it's such a great experience. May through to early August is the best time to see the Puffins (the birds people mostly want to see) but there's dozens of other species. We see Grey Seals too. And, if we're very lucky, we sometimes see Bottlenose Dolphins.
