  • @Derickbass

I had an epiphany listening to this song. I realized just how much of an integral part of the "Beach Boys Sound" Al Jardine's voice was. We tend to focus on Brian, Mike and Carl, and Al sort of "was there". Sure, he sang lead on "Rhona", but that was a diversion from the "real" singers in the band.....
But it was Al's "edge" to his voice that made a whole lot of difference in the high soaring harmonies. That slight rasp kept a very good balance. Brian and Carl's sweet high voices were nearly angelic at times, but that third part by Al kept it from sounding like the Vienna Boys choir! Just that right balance.
Dang.... Al sounds just as great in this clip as he sounded singing Rhonda all those years ago!

Wildly good perception on that aspect. To put it much more simply, he was to the Beach Boys what George was to the Beatles.

@@brianwalendy3735 I agree 100%. George had his share of lead vocals but he harmonized wonderfully with both John and Paul as needed. Their sound would not have been as great without his vocal contribution.

And yes, I have to say it : I've always loved Matt's falsetto &maybe because he's family, I thought it was " better" --at least for The Boys--than Jeff Foskett. Nothing wrong with Jeff's, but Matt's is just so much stronger & higher ! Now that Jeff is with The BB's, it's awesome to see both Jardine's together again with Brian. The Beach Boys without Mike Love's adenoidally-challenged voice is what many of us have wished for since the beginning. His sinus-plugged lead vocals are a constant distraction on so many otherwise world-class songs. Al Jardine's lead vocal on the massive hit "Help Me Rhonda" should have been proof enough that he deserved more lead vocals than Mike.

Brian must have listened to 70’s mainstream pop during his “lost years” while living in his bedroom, and filed them away in his head until he pulled the memory out to create a modernized England Dan & John Ford Coley tune- I hear an echo of "I'd Really Like to See You tonight". Very catchy tune.
Props to Al Jardine and Brian’s vocals that give it that undeniable Beach Boys feel. This and "Guess You Had to be There" are my favorite tracks .

We can all change….do not forget that!! But no matter who of you sings, you are awesome 👏 every one of you. The music is the best. Some fake music stars of nowaday's should listen and see this performance! No need to make a stage circus when there's so much talent to hear.
