I been looking forward to the soil test to see if mag i cal worked or not, when i started on my lawn last fall i used it. My is really looking good. I had a low ph. I just sent off another test couple days ago. Good luck.
You got this Mr Ferguson!!! I hear a lot of people give up after putting all the work and money into their lawns. Sometimes make me want to when I see weeds and nasty poa popping up but keep on getting it right. You got this it will get better. Keep praying over it! I can’t wait till fall!
Hey Mr. Ferguson I think the Ornamec 170 is the cause for a lot of the brown and yellowing of the turf. That herbicide can be extremely tough on turf especially newer grass that was recently planted in the fall. Just my opinion, hope u are doing well.
I agree with Garrett, that happened to me first time I used it. Thought I had red thread, too get past it takes time, & fert. The grass is stunted and needs time to recover. That's been my experience, but I'm not a pro, so I could be wrong. And I really think you may have Poa Triv, I'm not an expert but it looks like Triv to me
A soil test will def help this plot of land. I don't apply anything to my lawn until first doing a soil test. Results have been outstanding. I know you're not a warm season guy but that area of the church property gets full sun. Bermuda would thrive and would be much less of a headache than TTTF. Great vid.
@@MrFergusonLawn I've had TTTF in my yard for almost ten years and as I age the summer battle gets harder to deal with. If my yard had full sun I'd have gone the route of Bermuda years ago.
I’m really into your project lawn videos! I seeded my back yard at the same time that you started the “project”. I have the exact same weeds popping up, I’ve looked up every grassy weed there is and can’t figure it out! I thought maybe Dallas grass. I seeded with Johnathan green ultra black beauty and my lawn is thick and dark green but those weeds here and there are an eye sore! I’ve been digging them up and reseeding. 😫 So much for the old saying having a thick healthy lawn keeps the weeds out! I’m hoping you or some of my fellow subscribers will have an answer. Thank you for the video.
Glad someone enjoys them Wendy. It's not fun or exciting to post this type content, but it's a learning experience for me just as much as anyone else. Thank you for the encouragement!
If you are lucky enough to have the ability to get any C20 near you, it helped my lawn that was super compacted. Could not get a screwdriver down more than an inch a year ago but now it goes in like butter! Youll figure it out - excited to see the journey of the project lawn!
You what! 😂 God bless you man. Its been a strange spring in my lawn with fungus creeping in early. Im starting to think we are tested extra tough in the transition zone. Always rooting for ya.
I bet some Drive XLR8 or quinclorac would get those unidentified light green grasses. Probably can get something off the shelf with quinclorac in it for a test. I hope somebody knows what that is. I get it also but can keep it pulled out by hand.
Agree with using Quinclorac my preferred version is Quinclorac 75 DF which is a concentrate that you spray in similar to Prodiamine 65. I have killed some very mature crabgrass withe the Quinclorac 75
I would do two soil test. One through your local county extension office and do the my soil one. Your going to need a lot more lime than one bag of that jonathan green stuff. I have a 5.9 ph and my local county extension office recommended 100 lbs of lime per 1000 sqft. Two separate apps 50lbs/1000 in the spring and 50lbs/1000 in the fall. Raising ph takes time.
Fully aware. However, the JG product works quicker than lime alone. Meaning you don’t need 100lbs of it. That’s the claim. We will see how much it worked soon.
If the watering was gonna be a problem, think going all TTTF, K31, or Zoysia might have been a better way to go. A friend has zoysia here in NJ, so stays pretty green throughout the year.
I've got some of the same weeds in my back yard. I don't blame the JG as much as the very thin turf back there, and it's probably the same situation there.
Yea, the thought was that with a well, unlimited water at our finger tips, it would be easier to handle. Didn't factor in low pressure and my schedule to getting there to water. As Drago said "if it dies, it dies".
Pretty much, yes. We'll keep the good we have, and do a good aeration this go around, and I believe that will really help a lot as well. Plus, our ph should be closer to normal.
Be careful with those soil mastery test kits. There's been a lot of discussion online that the results are skewed vs a Mehlich III test especially for PH. Just be careful my friend.
I've used them for several years. They may not be spot on accurate, and I'm fine with that. We are dialing it in on this lawn. We need major changes and apps to get it going the right way.
Correct! The guys on Grass Factor have shown this test to be worthless, especially with PH readings as you stated. Dr. Shaddox from Turfgrass Epistemology (Great channel to cut through the BS) has also said the same thing so be careful!

Appreciate it. Could be right, not sure honestly!

You got this Mr Ferguson. Stick to the fundamentals. Summer might be a little tough but I think by late fall the project lawn will be rocking.
Thanks David, hope you are correct.
Wow this channel is on FIRE!!!
New season, new problems bro haha

Oh I absolutely agree. I think it will eventually head that way for sure. Likely do one more try of TTTF, then that is the plan long term tbh.

It is wild onions my neighbor when he had cows you would know when they were eating the onions the milk would have that onion taste

I use an app called picture this. And what comes up is tall fescue also known as Kentucky fescue. A species of ryegrass.

You can buy it online at Twin City Seed.

I appreciate it as always.
I think it might be orchard grass. Just gotta pull it

Well this was just for fun tbh. Maybe I need to do an outlook video on this subject, but ultimately this area will end up being bermuda, likely.

If I remember right you have KBG in there as well right? Transition zone I wouldn't touch KBG without irrigation.

Correct on the chick weed. Have faith it will get there
Thanks!
Looks like fungus on some with all the rain we've been having
Get your dirt right.
Yep. Precisely
Also I think it’s barnyard/orchard grass
That's my thinking too
Do over in the upcoming fall

Agreed. I will never use this personally.
That looks like Annual Rye, just pull it out by hand
