I do two separate soil tests, Al . My backyard is hilly so I get erosion in the back. So,even though the whole yard is treated the same . I have gotten different readings from the yard. So not much of a question for you but just putting it out there for people who may have the same issue . Love the vids.
Same here. My lot is a walkout that backs up to wetland so the front is high and dry and the back is low, moist and partially wooded. The readings aren't hugely different, but different enough to want to pay attention to how I handle things.

And I will have to adapt your time line to the Southern Hemisphere. Cheers Andy
I've only tested my soil once, about 5 years ago, and I went crazy and had all four sides of my house tested separately. My results actually showed a big difference between the front and back. My phosphorous levels were vastly different so I did in fact treat the front and back differently. Basically I use only phos-free ferts on one side, which means no Milo, and the other side I do use some Milo. So testing different areas can in fact be valuable if you want to take it that far.

I just sent away for my soil test kit. Will that customize the fertilizer applications/composition based on the results? Really looking forward to getting more into the "hobby".
Allyn just bought a bag of your double dark fert with 6% iron. My soil test said my iron was super low. My pH was 7.2. I’ve read that iron oxide is not available for plant use in soil pHs above 6? Is this correct?? Will the double dark even work for me? Is the iron chelated in the double dark fertilizer?
Allyn, I have a question over by dere in Texas. I'm starting to see some weeds appear in the lawn. Should I wait to spray with celcius or should I spray now? I'm afraid if I did spray now that some weeds could pop up later as things really start to heat up here.
Question about the mysoil tests compared to the mehlich-3 tests. MySoil says what's available to the plant so let's say MySoil says I have 10ppm available of phosphorous but the mehlich-3 says 30ppm. Essentially the MySoil test would be telling me to put more phosphorous down even though I would be overloading the soil with phosphorous. Is that correct or am I wrong in my thinking of these tests? Thanks!
I live in Houston TX and and we tend to have about 2" of soil sitting on top of clay, so I wanted to ask if I should include or exclude the clay from the test sample?
the roots of the lawn will be 4-6" down so that is where you want to take your samples from. The top clay is a part of the measurement, don't exclude it.

Hey Al, I recently had a soil test done to my St. Aug and it showed I have excessive calcium. Everything else is sufficient. What should I be pushing between now and the start of the June 1st summer fert ban?
My soil is very high in calcium and it acts to buffer the soil so I do not need to ever want to add more. In fact I utilize a fertilizer with iron to combat chlorosis and with sulphur to help combat the excessively high pH.
Hello Allyn. How are you. I got your soil test kit last season and did my soil test. I’m in the New York Long Island area. My question to you is how long is the soil test good for? Can I continue applying what I’m deficient in based on last year’s results? Or do you recommend doing another test?
Certain aspects of the soil will change from month to month based on what you apply and how much water it gets which will eventually wash some nutrients out. But that doesnt mean you need to test it every year. Its good to correct issues like PH imbalance using test results but then just apply products based on what it looks like is needed or what plan you have in place. I would think testing every 2-3 years is probably enough.

Actually I am doing different programs for different sections just for the heck of it this year.
Wish i could come over skyway bridge take exit 2 and pick your brain about lawn care. More of a lab /hands on person. Only 30 min away in St petersburg
Plot twist: Allyn's backyard tests positive for fungus and disease and he just threw that soil right into the middle of his front lawn.
😁😂
I have two postage stamps. 🤣
Allyn just got my results back from this soil test. My calcium and magnesium were sky high. Everything else was basically non existent. I fertilize my lawn regularly. Used many of your fertilizers last year. I was baffled with my results considering my lawn looks pretty good! Any advice? Thanks
Since the grass looked good, sounds like your lawn used up what you applied. But you didn't apply enough to actually get the soil to build and hold nutrients. That can take time. Sounds like you're on the right track so far n
@@TheLawnCareNut should I just hit it hard all year every 4-6 weeks? Starter ferts, flagship, double dark all of it?
Nut to soil contact

So sad to see that shovel violate such a beautiful lawn 😢
