I've enjoyed your rides for a while now. This video got me to buy a 2016 R12R last Saturday, premium package with all features and saddlebags. Wish I was closer, would've like to have bought it from you. I like sitting in the bike with the controls higher so you helped to sell me. I got the white one with the red graphics. Thanks for posting. Loving the bike I'm 59 so chalk up another old dude on an R.
Finally bought one, went right up the line, r9t ,great to look at, not to comfortable after about 3hrs in the saddle, no modes, easy to flick around, fun bike, not for me, r1200rt big touring bike, electronic windshield, heated grips and seat, radio, big bike to muscle around in the garage, great for long trips, so after goldilocks syndrome I bought a 2016 r1200r, love it to death, thanks cal, influenced me and it paid off, couldn't be happier]
I think they're trying to compensate for a higher center of gravity. it really does look like you could use another inch to the seat padding, for confidence and comfort.
Thanks very much for that review! It was good to see it on your now familiar territory. I took a test ride this weekend and also felt like it sat pretty low. At 6' 2", I'm inclined to go with the taller seat option. Perhaps that will help me feel as though I'm over the front wheel a bit more. I wonder if that will do the trick. Thoughts?
Cal Moto am gonna steal your bike!......haha just kidding, i live overseas. nice bike dude, but if the r1200r got the same enigine as the adventure 1200gs, then the gs suits me better. congrats with your bike and ride safe!
Carl - I watch a lot of your reviews - concise and to the point - great...I have a question - I have a 2017 Rnine T - love it - but is the R1200 R so much better in terms of refinement and performance - is it also better that a speed triple - I miss that bike 2016R
You have any evidence of Triumph having any kind of major structural failures with their engines? Honestly, the life of the engine isn't going to be a major issue with either of these motorcycles. It's all the electronics and other associated stuff that's going to have the bike in a shop somewhere waiting for parts. In that respect, BMW has a much worse track record. There's lots of high mileage BMWs due to the riding demographic that buys them. That doesn't mean that every bike that doesn't make it 300,000 miles has its engine explode. 99% of motorcyclists simply don't do that kind of mileage on a single bike.
that may be true about the mileage, but your thoughts on electrical dont seem very acurate to me, the bmw is using a can bus electrical system. which uses far less voltage and less wiring then a conventional electric system. i do love the triumph thruxton and the street twin, but mechanically and electrically the bmw is superior.
+Cal Moto Thanks. I'm just about 6'3", so I'm guessing either the High seat or the Sport seat would be the way to go for me. I'll be taking one out this week for a test ride.
what's the point of this bike? there's already other similar cc naked bike by bmw, this is like the cross between the nine T and S1000r, i think bmw is better off focusing on less models, i like this model a lot though, that dashboard is sleek but it's totally exposed at the front
Jason B R nine T is shaft drive, looks much better than this on the road, i still think this is another pointless hybrid model that will soon fade into oblivion because of low sales count, much like the F700GS
+Tony Tng looks are always subjective, I personally don't prefer the café racer-ish looks of the nine T. I do agree that it's strange to have the two models so similar in performance and price though.
Christian Hodges it's also very difficult to keep up with their models by memory, S1000R, S1000RR, S1000XR, R1200RS, R1200GS, R1200GSA, R1200RT, ain't nobody got time to keep up with these except diehard BMW fans, and the annoying thing is most of these are just variants of each other
+Tony Tng it's not hard to keep up at all.. bmw in basic has two engines the I4 and boxer, they make the I4 and boxer in all of their styles from adv to sport to touring to naked. what's so hard to understand about that?

Congratulations! That bike will keep you satisfied for years to come:)
More excited for the R1200RS now! Good to know the R isn't boring.
The display looks freaken awesome!
I tried it last week... Amazing bike. I loved the quick shifter!
Thanks for a good review. I loved your route!
Nicely comprehensive! Thank you!
Captain Rambunctious You're here too? They do make nice bikes! NineT for me! Tata!
John Mård Ditto! ;-)

You made my day:).
Always been a fan of that boxer motor , I currently own a Tiger but might upgrade to a BMW in the future .. Good review !
+Davyboy Colon Thank you!
what a beauty !
Great review, I almost had the T100 Bonnie now I have to keep saving for this one.
Yo, nice bike you got there! Congrats!
love it that much went out & bought one , what a bike love it !!!!
I don't like that strange headlight, but the rest is awesome...
I think they're trying to compensate for a higher center of gravity. it really does look like you could use another inch to the seat padding, for confidence and comfort.
Great vid as usual; although you're starting to loose grip on the weather... :p
Love that it's now water-cooled. Too bad they took away the nice symmetrical dash.
Omg no, where did that beautiful dash go? :-(

I just don't know. I think I would be inclined to have a custom seat fitted to ensure the position I want.

arrrrrr rrrr rr rr yes ill take it. Sounds like a rockster should.
I
Hi Carl do you prefer the speed triple to the bmw even though the speed is a few years old now ? And which bike would be better for every day use 😄
Andrew Harvey Hi Aaron, the Triumph is more fun; the BMW has bags. You decide what's best for you. The SP3 is best for me:)
Are you going to do the 2015 F800R?
What is the going price for this bad boy
$20.000
This or the Thruxton?
The BMW is awesome; that said, I have to go with the Triumph.
the thruxton wouldn't last you 200,000 miles, ive heard the boxer can get over 300,000 miles. thats what wins it for me with this bike

Do you remember if this was the standard seat? How tall are you?
Yes, standard seat...I'm 5'9".
+Cal Moto Thanks. I'm just about 6'3", so I'm guessing either the High seat or the Sport seat would be the way to go for me. I'll be taking one out this week for a test ride.
how big is the bike and do you flat foot it
+terrance “jrsystem” upright Easy flatfoot.
Tough choice between this and the R9T
Jimo368 I had r nine T and just brought the 1200r - no regrets

+Tony Tng whats the point, this is my perfect bike a normal looking every day bike , WITH SHAFT DRIVE !!!! thats the point :)))))))
Jason B R nine T is shaft drive, looks much better than this on the road, i still think this is another pointless hybrid model that will soon fade into oblivion because of low sales count, much like the F700GS

Can you wheelie it next time.
Oh.....ok:)
this or r nine t ?
If you're buying for modern performance, comfort, & technology, this bike every day and twice on Sunday!
Riding in 3rd gear most of the time......why at good road speeds....change up!
