Just starting out on a WFPB diet after failing on the Optifast program...800 calories per day of totally artificial shakes/soups led me to a very unhealthy relationship with my body and with food, plus I was ravenously hungry and miserable. This makes so much sense (although I am a little fearful of the carb load) but I am ALL IN!! Wish me luck!!

Kiki the problem is not your rice cooker , its actually a very good one, you need to rinse the rice , rinse it well under cold water until water runs clear and drain well then add to your pot and cook as you do.

You have an Instant Pot, right? I cook THE BEST rice in mine! I cook brown rice...I know you're not a fan. I use 2 cups of rice and 2 1/2 cups of liquid (I usually use veggie broth) on the Manual setting for 22 minutes. It is perfect! The ratio of rice to liquid may be different with white rice.

We, Indians never cook saffron. You always soak it in warm water or milk and add it after turning off the stove. If you cook it, you will never have any taste in it. So, Saffron does have taste!

So, crazy story. I found you because I was searching for other vloggers who live island life, healthy, heard you’re name through high carb Hannah, loved your channel. As I am on the floor, thinking about everything you have said in your videos… I ate a few healthy snacks then went onto the floor to do yoga. I’m a musician and not really feeling healthy lately and have a show tonight so I wanted to at least TRY! As I’m wrapping up yoga and sit up, I realize there’s a book on the shelf next to me and my ukulele. This isn’t my house, we are staying here while we find a place to live in Key West. Anyway, it’s “Cleanse To Heal” by Anthony William. I noticed the watermelon on the front and as much as I LOVE cheese and low carb, I’m kinda thinkin this is a sign! 🤯

I like a fruit flavor at breakfast and prefer barley instead of oatmeal. I've been chopping lettuce and put previously cooked, cold barley on top then sprinkle cinnamon and top with fresh fruit like mango and a splash of soy milk. I love the crunch and chewy textures and the lettuce has a mild, sweet flavor when paired with fruit. 50/50 breakfast bowl success.

Hi Kiki, I really want to try this lifestyle again, last year I was not successful. I come from the background of counting macros because I under-eat in general. I have hashimotos also. After 3 months of this lifestyle , I gained weight and did not feel good, sore joints etc. Wondering if it was from the legumes, as I was eating more than normal because of the protein. I also lift weights and like to have muscle, so the whole protein thing was stressing me out. But with that being said, I really loved all the foods. I was following HCH weight loss book. I feel that not weighing and counting macros led me to eating too much. I am totally rambling but was wondering, if I do this again, what do you recommend for those with hashimotos and what to you recommend for protein, I’d like to do this and count macros but worry that it wouldn’t work because it would be carb heavy and too low fat/protein. Any suggestions?

Hi Kiki, why don’t you cook rice in the Instant Pot? White basmati rice on manual pressure, cooks in 3-4 mins. Blessings

KiKi What kind of cookware do you use? That nonstick pan looks awesome. I have issues with McDougall since I cannot use oil and everything sticks to my pans...even the non stick ones !!

I use my Instant Pot for rice. There Is an automatic setting for rice and it comes out just as nice as my rice cooker I had in the past.

Can I just eat white rice as my starch side? Today I had a homemade thick veggie soup with white rice and it was so good and filling. But is white rice ok? I really don’t like brown rice.

Will you share a link for the knife you use in this video? I’m just getting started on this way of eating and am in desperate need of a good knife but the number of choices are so overwhelming, plus they are rather expensive so I don’t want to make a bad choice. If you offer a discount code that would be awesome.

Absolutely enjoy your videos. What brand is your air fryer? Would you be able to link it for others. I would greatly appreciate it.

I use my Instant Pot for rice cooking and I live in Colorado also and the 1:1 method works really well. Rinse rice and put equal amount of water, set for 28 minutes and use natural pressure release for at least 15 minutes before releasing and opening. Perfect every time. White rice, brown rice, whatever.

If no air fryer available, will the hash brown recipe work in a regular toaster oven? If so, the temp and time? Thank you for the video.

You have no idea how much you have changed my life. I have a hard time relating to "gym rat" fitness gurus. I have young kids and I work and just can't find time to carve out to spend hours in a building pumping iron, and honestly nor would I want to. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that if that is your thing, but for me being outdoors enjoying the earth and moving my body naturally through hiking and cycling and climbing is so much more enjoyable and sustainable than reps and sets under fluorescent bulbs. Your style, your tips, your recipes, your honesty have all been so motivating and you make it so EASY and stress free and unintimidating. I'm not stressing over macros or calories or any of that mess. Half veggies, half starch, repeat. So simple!!! I love you so much and you are such a tremendous gift and amazing woman. I can't WAIT to see your vaca vlog!!

Your cooked rice looks too wet. The amount of water that you add to the rice looks too much. Use your finger to no more than your first joint to measure the water on top of the rice. Tip off any excess water. Always check that bottom of rice cooker pot is dry. I have a really cheap rice cooker and it works perfectly.
