Just FYI, the title pretty much gives it away, "Tora" is Japanese for "tiger", and "dora" is short for the borrowed word "doragon" for "dragon", and the "Ryu" in "Ryuji" is the kanji for "dragon". Also, the little birds are a motif.

YESSSS! This show came into my life at a very pivotal time and left an indelible impression on me - it’s not a stretch for me to say it’s arguably my fave Romance Anime of all time, and I’m SO glad you get to experience it too!!!
Taiga is the quintessential Tsundere of Anime, and i know that a lot of people doesnt like that tipe of character, but whats great about this Toradora is that all the characters grow, and we get to understand why they are how they are, but beyond that the relationships they stablishe make the better persons and deal with a lot of the trauma from their past. this its an incredible anime which still hold up after 15 years and i can say is even better that others resent romances
Kugimiya Rie has the best “Baka!” In the business
Taiga is indeed considered a quintessential tsundere, which is funny considering she's not a tsundere at all. She's not hiding a crush on Ryuuji by being mean to him, she just has a general anger issue, towards everyone. Towards her actual crush, Kitamura, and later Ryuuji, she's actually very nice and considerate.
Not a fan of romance... and can't get myself into anime as much as I would like. Tried the popular ones like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online... couldn't keep watching. Toradora has both... and I still ended up loving it. They definitely did something right if it managed to make me love it the way I did 😊
God this is a childhood classic for me. Toradora, Ouran and Maid-sama were the romcom classics!
I have a feeling you're going to absolutely love Toradora. This is one that will stay with you, years after you watch it.
Oh man, this is my all time favorite romcom, an absolute masterpiece and gold standard for romcom anime. This show has lodged itself so deep into my soul.

Taiga's seiyuu is Rie Kugimiya which is the same voice actress who voiced Alphonse Elric.
Toradora is one of, if not the, GOAT rom-com anime. And fun fact: several of the English dub VAs in the show would later go on to provide the English voices for some of the characters in Persona 5 (Morgana, Ann, Ryuji, Caroline/Justine, and some others I probably forgot).
Taiga actress is the fun Fie from the legend of heroes trails of cold steel (best girl but her main act is on hte 4th game)

This is my first time watching one of your videos, but I hope you enjoy this series. Even after 15 years, the animation, sound direction & characters of this series are still a great work of art!
It does a lot of scenes & tropes extremely well, many of which, even to this day, other series often fail to capture. One of the few series that has a trick that instantly makes me emotional any time I hear it now.
One of my fave romcom. I found this series back when it was a manga but only 10 chapters were translated back then so i ended up reading the light novel instead. Then a couple of years later this anime came out and i was really happy. The anime follows the light novel very closely which i like. Alot of anime adoptation from novels suck so this is one of those few that really did well. And the songs are very good too.
Believe it or not, the Manga itself is an adaptation. The LN came first.

I read and understood that you tried all three, but somehow missed the part where you said 'the anime follows the light novel' closely.' So nostalgic... watched it weekly back when I was in high school. The character's relationship progression is pretty good.
Recent romcom anime I would recommend "The dangers in my heart", it is an adorable anime.

Great reaction - this show is a classic. I don't normally 'do' romcoms but this is one of my fav animes. Some may tell you there's filler episodes, but I would say there's great character development and a wonderful story.

Rie Kugimiya was the perfect choice for voice Taiga. She can perform a Tsundere character so well. Another great examples are Louise from "Zero No Tsukaima" or Shana form "Shakugan No Shana".
One of my favorite Romantic stories alongside "Golden Time".

Man.... This anime reminds me of my early college days, when i first got into anime. This is my very first romcom anime, iirc.
The sequence where Ryuuji's parrot, Inko-chan spoke out 'Impotent!' kind of reminded me of a quite similar sequence of scenes I watched in Nisekoi Season 2, where the protagonist of the show, Ichijou Raku was taunted by the pet parrot (Which was named Raku-sama) of Tachibana Marika, one of the female characters of that series. Both of them were absolutely hilarious...😂

I just watched this series last month over the course of Memorial Day weekend. I didn't realize how 'old' the anime was until I noticed the flip phones. Still, the animation (and story) hold up well. What a ride.

Oh prepare for PTDS ( post toradora depression syndrome) it's a weird phenomenon that most of those who finish this show experience. I did have it and it didn't left me until my 7th rewatch of the series. Goodluck.

Delightful! Ryuuji is one of the Best Boys of anime, and Taiga is endlessly entertaining.

Yeah Toradora is an amazing anime. Don't worry too much about Taiga. She gets a lot of great character development and less aggressive as the series goes on. And even early on when she is a bit violent, Ryuji basically takes it in stride, after all the dragon and tiger are equals.
You''re a bit off on the home life. Yasuko is actually a great mother, she's just been tasked with raising a child on her own with less opportunities due to less education and she is shown to care very much about Ryuji, wanting him to focus on his studies so he can get into a good college and have a good future. While he cooks and cleans around the house, that's because he likes cooking and cleaning, to the point where he will even spend time at his school cleaning beyond what is mandatory for students. Yasuko on the other hand comes across as lazy, but that is because she works a night shift.
Kitamura and Minori also get a lot of character development. Even the side characters get a lot of attention.
i don´t even remember the plot of this show, but it was the first anime i saw, like 50 years ago or something like that
