Toradora means "palm tiger" and refers the the female MC Taiga (in japanese it sounds like "tiger") and since she is so small she is a tiger that fits into your palm ^^

The word is tsundere (the accents are on "tsun", "de" and "re", the "u" pronounced like in "cool" but not long, the "e" pronounced like the first "e" in "ever") it means a character that is mean on the outside to hide that he/she's smitten with the other. The word is a mix between "tsun-tsun", a "thorny" behaviour, and "dere-dere", blushing, being enamored.
The anime is about highschoolers like "love is war" but the premise is different. This is really great an anime.
"ara ara onee-san", onee, or ane means big sister, "ara ara", is like a "my oh my!" in english. Anyway the blondie with the parrot is not an "ara ara" type.
The anime is from 2000s (2008 if I remember right), it has ended after a double season.
The first ending lyrics explains the "tsundere" stereotype.
The short girl with fluffy hair is portraited by Kugimiya Rie, she's the legendary "Queen of Tsundere", between 2000s and 2010s she took many tsundere roles: "Toradora", "Zero no Tsukaima", "Shakugan no Shana", "Hayate no Gotoku", "Astarotte no omocha", "Hidan no Aria" and more, her performance in Toradora awarded her the "best actress" in the 3rd Seiyuu Awards.

A character who swings from hot to cold emotionally towards one person in particular, acting as if they dislike them, trying to appear tough or mean, and then turns soft or kind for a moment, specially when dealing with a love interest.
The number one example sentence of a Tsundere character is "It's not like I like you or anything" or similar.
For example, you invite someone out to dinner and she goes: "I'll go with you because I'm hungry and I like that place, and not because I like you or anything."

Toradora is actually a strange one - relatively old at this point, what shows how high the animation quality actually was when it came out - at the same point it seems to be the entry-anime for many western viewers. Most likely based on the fact it was dubbed in many western languages quite quickly after release. It also does something that is actually quite rare - especially with rom-coms these days - it starts out as a bit of a silly and comical show, but soon drifts into a more mature area that has quite some similarities with western 'tele-novelas' and afternoon TV dramas. The story also goes the full mile, showing the character's full personal and romantical development - what seems getting more and more rare nowadays...
Not exactly enough to make it my top-10 anime of all time or something - but as entry into anime surely one of the better choices to acclimatize to anime tropes that would be hard to be understood and picked up in other shows by 'newbies'.
PS.: The cat looks angry because it is meant to resemble the main character. The girl's called 'Taiga' - and because how small (and angry) she is, they call her 'Palmtop Tiger' - as a pun of her name. What is one of those type of puns that are easier to pick up when understanding some japanese - but in this case it's quite straight forward and easy to understand.

I'd put it in the same category as Oregairu, where the series starts as a relatively straightforward high school romcom but by the back half it's almost entirely teen drama.
Also, weirdly, both series have male leads who are skinny dudes with dark, shaggy hair and distinctive eyes, and female characters with really long hair and strong, self-isolating personalities.

Yes, the openings are sung by the cast, Rie Kugimiya, Yui Horie, and Eri Kitamura. If there was a petite tsundere girl in an anime between like 2003 and 2013, you should always guess Rie Kugimiya voiced her. She was in EVERYTHING back then. Heck, I just finished the RPG Trails of Azure and she's in it as the young girl.
The basic premise is that the two main characters are the opposite personalities of their looks.

    • @Regis_ru

Damn, I can't believe I could ever find Kugimiya fans.... Her voice is beautiful, and I'm always excited whenever I hear her voice in anime. She also voiced Vampire in the Azur Lane game and sheeeesh, I married her and bought 20usd worth of skin while being f2p (this is an exception) just because she was voiced by Kugimiya Rie. Louise is my favourite tho.
For Reiwa Era, Taketatsu Ayana is great too but she mostly voice a Tsundere and rarely do a loli character. Amelia Irving is the closest to Taiga's vibe we got now but nothing beat the OG Kugimiya Rie

ah, yeah, the term "tsundere" is pronounced (best I can describe it in text)... the first part is a hard T sound followed by "soon" and the second part sounds like "day" "ray" but like... soften the Y sound on those syllables. tsun- de- re.
the term refers to the type of person who is abrasive on the outside, but it's usually because they're being defensive due to embarrassment, or a fear of vulnerability. and then the idea is that if you put in the work getting to know them, you'll discover their softer side over time, which can become a very meaningful connection _because_ they don't let just anyone into their life. this also ties in really well with the kind of romance where the leads start off hating each other, but eventually fall in love with each other.
I haven't watched Toradora, but I am very familiar with this trope... honestly, grumpy characters who are huge softies deep down are my absolute favorites. give me a deadpan, grumpy, tired individual, then tell me they're kind, and you _have me figured out._ give them a kind and energetic character as their constant companion, and I'm even more sold.

also... KEY LIME PIE RECIPE TIME
if you want to use a pre-made crust, definitely do that, but the filling might be a bit much for those wimpy little things. if you want to make the crust from scratch, it's:
1/2 cup toasted almonds (optional, can be substituted with 1/2 cup more graham cracker crumbs, this part probably works best with a food processor)
1 and 1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs (12 full graham crackers)
    2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    6 tablespoons melted butter
(also, if you want to be fancy, substitute some of your graham crackers with ginger snaps. you measure this amount with your heart.)
    filling ingredients:
    6 egg yolks
1 and 1/2 cans sweetened condensed milk (1 can + 2/3 cup from a new can)
1 cup and 2 tablespoons full fat sour cream
1 cup + 2 tablespoons lime juice (fresh takes at least 7-8 limes)
    2 & 1/2 tablespoons lime zest (optional)
the instructions are pretty simple... just preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, mix everything for the crust, butter or spray the pan before pressing that all in, and bake just the crust for 10 minutes.
then you start with the filling by heavily beating the egg yolks... using a stand mixer is way easier than doing it by hand. it's recommended to do that for 5 minutes before beating in the sweetened condensed milk, but really, you just want those two things very evenly combined. then mix in the sour cream, and then the lime zest (if using) and lime juice. as soon as that's all fully combined, pour the filling into the crust (the crust should be cool before doing this) and bake the whole thing, still at 350, for 25 minutes. if it looks too liquidy when it comes out of the oven, it's fine, it's supposed to be that way. it'll set as it cools, and once it's cool enough, it can be refrigerated to set up the rest of the way. after that, you can put whatever you want on it.

Toradora is one those older anime that is a good entry point for newcomers even if it aired like 13(or is it 14) years ago.
And it is your school life + romance type of show. I mean the recent Love is War focuses on the comedy element while Toradora focuses on the romance element even though both of them share the school life and first love themes.
    As for recommendations:
-Magi. OPs and EDs. Alongside the prequel of Sinbad. Of course, this one has banger OSTs as well like "Enfin Apparu" and "L'Arabesque Sindria" .
-Shakugan no Shana. OPs and EDs. Now this one is older but at least the music is fire.

    Basic dere types:
-Tsun-dere. A person that acts angry and violent but is actually good and sweet on the inside.
-Yan-dere. A crazy person. Nuff said.

This is the series that I personally consider the last anime of the 00s. It aired back in late 2008/early 2009, and ended literally the week before Bakemonogatari and K-on! started (two anime that aired at the same time and were so unbelievably massive that they were a HUGE turning point in how anime was marketed). In retrospect, the whole thing feels like one last hurrah for trends of the 00s. Most notably, short tsundere voiced by Rie Kugimiya. There were a couple after this, but Taiga was the last really huge one.
This is such a classic that a certain website has diligently streamed it every year for the past decade.

This anime was a sensation when it came out, there are still hotblooded arguments about who is the best girl in the show, personally I think Ryuuji is best girl.
People were up in arms the moment each episode ended and they had to wait for a week to watch the next episode.
I still really like this show, the story is really fun and engaging and the characters are great as well. The voice acting is also fantastic, with some legendary voice actors, like Kugimiya Rie who voices the small character, Taiga, she was typecast early on to play small tsundere characters but she has some really great roles under her belt.
Another voice actress in this show is Horie Yui who plays the red-headed girl, she is one of the more prolific anime singers out there and managed to build up an amazing singing career.
I could go on and on about the cast, but those are my favourites.
Well worth a watch, it has some really funny moments along with some good drama and romance.

There are a number of "dere" "tsundere" and "yandere" being the most popular and well known. One of the most well known tsundere characters in all of anime is in fact the MC Taiga from Toradora.
Tsudere basically is a merging of 2 terms, "tsuntsun" irritable and "deredere" lovestruck. A tsundere is someone who pretends to dislike a love interest but will go out of their way to show interest while verbally saying they aren't.

Finally! I really love this show. Has a perfect balance between love, romance and drama. And the drama side changed in me when i've rewatched as an adult. As i teen i felt more desperate and sad, but now i felt Just bittersweetness in those drama moments, and yeah, i love how some shows can let you have different perspectives. Also love the osts, especially Lost my pieces and ame iro rondo. I also think that another strong point Is the realism between their relationships, between all the characters. Yeah there Is taiga hitting riuji, that's Just a saturation of her personality. ALSO, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, as many people haven't paid enough attention and skipped It: in the last episode there Is a scene After the credits. That's the ending, that scene Is very important. Even though there Is still another Little part in the visual and light novel, that really wraps It all up.

Tsundere means a girl who is mean or harsh to her crush but also gets easily flustered and is mean to hide her true feelings, There are two types, one that express through anger and ones that express through Pride (Kurisu from Steins;Gate is a pride based one.)

To put it simply: Toradora is the story of the budding friendship between the four teens you've seen in the openings; no magic or stuff like that, just comedy and slice of life drama (even the katana you see the shorty carrying around is a bokken, a wooden katana, which she uses to hit someone more for comedic effort than anything else)
The short girl is Taiga Aisaka, the male female character, and she is, indeed, a tsundere (a character that hides their affection behind rude or aggressive behaviours); the cat in the ending is also a reference to her: her nickname is "palmtop tiger", due to her short stature and even shorter temper, thus having a tigerstriped kitten with a mean look on its face.

The word you were trying to say is "Tsundere" where a character is actually really nice and shy and kind but can't be honest to themselves and acts like he\she is tough and sometimes rude too .
    Toradora [Without Spoilers]
Toradora was my very first romance and comedy show due to which it has a special place in my heart . First of all from it's name Tora means "tiger" and Dora is "dragon" which is a big fact that the the main characters names are Taiga [The little female girl] and Ryuiji [The scary looking guy] . The bigger fact here also is that the dragon, a mythical animal thought to reign over the heavens, stands for yang. The tiger, respected in ancient China as mightiest of the wild beasts, stands for yin . Hence the name Toradora 😁😁
The shows main plot goes as Ryuji has a crush on the pink haired girl who is Taiga's friend . Meanwhile Taiga has a crush on the glasses wearing boy who is Ryuji's friend . But both of them are really bad and really shy at telling their feeling to their crushes and after meeting with each other , they decide to help each other with their crushes .
It's a comedic show but the story is pretty good and yes , the anime has already ended

Toradora! is, personally, the BEST romance series in anime. It has romance, drama, comedy with beautiful animation and outstanding sound direction! It's a series that aired back in 2008, a series I had to take a break from after having an unhealthy addiction to the show lol. The opening & endings aren't amazing, but they're very impressionable that makes them memorable long after.
An absolute recommend for romance, it's similar to 'Love is War' in that sense, but nowhere near as comedic and more focus on the actual dynamics of the characters, romance & drama. The closest thing I feel to it's standard as such in romantic tension would be 'Spice & Wolf', very few shows manage the same kind of genuine quality in their characters as these two series!

Toradora! is a comedy/drama slice of life featuring the two protagonists Ryuuji (people are scared of him because he looks like a gangster) and Taiga (the scary girl with the wooden katana who deserves her reputation) being in love with the other's best friends and the shenanigans and heartbreak that evolve from that premise. Taiga is often referred to as Palmtop (palm of your hand) tiger because of her personality and stature, hence the mean little tiger in the ending.
This anime is feel good and heartbreaking all in one, it's got all the gooey, awful, and sticky feelings of high school and is one of the BEST dramas I've ever seen, across genres, period. I haven't seen the dub of it so I can't speak to its quality but the sub is fantastic and the actors are INCREDIBLE at putting across strong emotion.

Toradora is a nice romcom drama anime about a boy named Ryuuji and a girl named Taiga who are inlove with the other person's bestfriend and so they decided to help one another. The title refers to the two of them as Taiga has the same pronounciation as Tiger (Tora) and the Ryuu of Ryuuji means Dragon (Dora). Yes! Taiga is a tsundere and one of the popular ones as well - she's even voiced by Rie Kugimiya who is well-known for voicing such characters.
The songs from the show are sung by the voice actresses: OP 1/ED 2 are sung by all three girls while OP 2/ED 1 is sung by the voice actress of Minori (the redhead girl).

That is call Tsundere you are curious of. Dere mean lover, and there are many types of dere in anime, and Stundere is the most loved:
Stundere: a person who like you, always sweet to you, care about you, but won't ever admit she like you, she give you all the signs, and she wait for you to do the 1st move.
Deredere: very sweet and energetic girl who like, she will immediately tell you her feelings and and will try to be the best girlfriend for you.
Yandere: a person who is really into you, she will confess to you first, and then will go all out willingly to do everything including crazy things for you, she don't mind if it's a bad thing just to keep you all for herself, and can't stand someone take you away from her or leave her, very possessive, she will not friendly towards anyone who is threatening her relationship even towards the person she love. (it is the kind of dere you should avoid).
Kuudere: a emotionless girl who falling love with you, a girl who will never show her emotions towards anyone.
Dandere: someone who lack of social interaction, shy, quite, and only speak when she is alone with the person she like.
Bakadere: a girl who will do all the stupid stuff, even embarrassed herself to get you to like her back but not crazy like Yandere.
Bodere: very violent, and masculine girlfriend who like to beat you as a way to show affection.
Undere: combine of Deredere and Yandere. The difference between Undere and Yandere is that, Undere is more sweet and friendly than yandere.
Darudere: a dull and lazy person unless the person she love speak.
Hitodere: a toxic lover, she will shame you and lower your value just to manipulate you.
Himedere: a lover who act like she is a princess, and wanted to be treated as one.
Example from anime openings you reacted to:
Tsundere: Kaguya from Kaguya love is war.
Yandere: Yuno from Mirai Niki "future diary".
    Undere: Misa from Death Note.
Dandere: Komi from Komi can't communicate, and Shouko from a silent voice.
...other dere I don't have examples from anime openings you reacted to.
