Nichijou (nee-chee-joh) is basically a comedy where things instantly go from skits about everyday life to complete over the top insanity, sprinkled in with a few bits of god-tier animation. One of the few comedy anime that actually had my sides hurting from laughing too hard.
Regarding the endings: Zzz has 3 variations (the one you listened to, a Bossa Nova version, and an Acapella version) that plays through episodes 1-13. The second one you listened to (Ending 4) plays at the end of episode 14, and then there are 6 more endings that play through episodes 15-20. So there are 8 endings total, 10 if you include the variations.
Nichijou literally means "Daily Life", and the irony is that this anime is anything but a normal slice of life. The randomness in it is crazy. One of the few comedy anime I would recommend

If you wondering if the zoom up scene from the openings seems kinda familiar, the 2nd opening of Kobayashi's Maid Dragon actually paying homage for the series by doing the similar thing.
Other then the first ending, the other endings consist of songs that common from Japanese culture, probably from folklore or something. Some of the songs even being sung in other anime, like the one you reacted (Tsubasa wo Kudasai) also appeared in K-ON! and Evangelion.
And, this is slice of life. It's best you go in blind for this. The randomness will never leave you disappointed.
I'd compare Nichijou to a sketch comedy, where it jumps around to different sets of characters and situations for short scenes. The comedy is a mix of absurd and relatable, as well as a ton of Japanese wordplay.
It's a good time all around, and even uses the simple art style to pull off some really elaborate animation.

The second ending song is actually a cover from a famous japanese song called "Tsubasa Wo Kudasai (translation: Please Give Me Wings), a lot of ending songs in this anime are actually covers from famous songs in Japanese culture
Nichijou is an all-timer comedy series.
I love it as much as a person could possibly love an animated series.

The animation is absolutely gorgeous and amazing and many fans call Nichijou also "How to burn your animation budget". There are some scenes that will just make your jaw drop, they're that amazing! It is made by Kyoto Animation that has a reputation for its gorgeous animations.

oh, Nichijou (pronounced knee like the body part, chee like in cheerios, and joe like the name) is delightful! and very very weird! some of the jokes are weird because they're weird, and some are weird because the visuals are depicting Japanese wordplay, archetypes, and puns in a really literal way, so it's very hard to translate the meaning while preserving the humor... but the whole thing is a slice of life comedy that's just really cute and stupid... it's a very easy watch.
I like to call these "potato chip shows" because watching episodes feels kind of like snacking on potato chips. they're fun and easy to consume, and you could just keep going so easily.
also, I've realized that some of my suggestions do the opposite to that thing you described... instead of the OP looking light and cute while the anime is surprisingly dark... the OP will come off as intense and gritty, but then the characters are really sweet and dumb. Dorohedoro... is an example of this... sort of. idk, some shit happens in that show, but it's surprising to me that it's never a downer. I think it's more common to find shows that are dark despite the OP, because the purpose of an OP is usually to pump up the energy, while the purpose of an ED is to show the more emotional side of the series... and if the dark elements are more incidental to the plot, or if the dark parts are too depressing, then the "energy" of the show can come off as very different. in that way, the EDs tend to be a bit more honest about that other half of the show's range sometimes.
More like "jaw" than "joe" but otherwise it's about right.
@@Kyla8132 I guess that might depend on accent... I speak with a very flat american accent, so "joe" would be more accurate for me... it's like "jo" but with a subtle extra "oo" sound because of the U at the end.

@@kamuyking551 Sure I guess if you want to teach people to sound like American's reading Japanese. But since Luke's asking for proper pronunciation obviously it has to be the actual language's way of saying it. If you're gonna fuss about the "u" then the Hepburn romaji of the anime is "Nichijō". Listening's a lot better way of learning rather than a stranger online such as myself. I recommend the first 3 seconds of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou episode 1. Quick and easy you get to hear exactly how it's said.

I mean, I was trying to describe it with the american words that would sound like the japanese words by comparison if I were to say both out loud one after the other... like, if I were to say "jaw" out loud, the "w" sound would make that word sound nothing like the "jo" syllable in Nichijou. I'm assuming our words would sound different from each other though, so to you, your description is probably accurate.
but you're right, hearing someone actually say it in Japanese is way better. I probably should've known better than to try and describe the pronunciation in text at all tbh.

Nichijou is absolute chaos incarnate and will leave you with a smile on your face after every episode.
The last ending you listened to is actually a popular Japanese folk song, Tsubasa wo Kudasai. A fair few anime actually have a rendition of this on their soundtracks (Evangelion, K-ON, Danganronpa, and a couple others I don't know about probably)
Nichijou is one of the best Comedy anime around! Also Nichijou means "Everyday" as in everyday life.
Other excellent Slice of Life anime (with great Openings and Endings) are Flying Witch and Non Non Biyori.
another edit: Can't forget Seitokai Yakuindomo (though the (dirty) jokes don't always land as well in the subtitles)

Nichijou is very much a skit-based anime, small segments that you might see in newspaper comics or short Loony Tunes segments. So there is very little in the way of plot or character development, all about life and situations the characters get into. Nichijou skits can escalate quickly to be dramatic, surreal, or insane, but are always pretty wholesome.
Two more anime that have a similar vibe, with skits and daily school life, but possibly even more insane, would be "Daily Lives of High School Boys" and "Asobi Asobase".
Asobi Asobase if you havent seen the opening and ending yet..... Is something special.
Nichijou is without a doubt the single most UNHINGED and chaotic comedy anime of all time

if you have hakase brain you can understand it perfectly
If you want to get better at pronunciation, you can study how Hiragana sounds from a quick video as it’s not that hard to learn just the general sound of Japanese letters/kana. Japanese letters/kana don’t change how they pronounced unlike English letters which change pronunciation all the time.
As an example, か (ka) in Japanese is pronounced “kah”. け(ke) is pronounced “keh”. こ(ko) is pronounced koh. く(ku) is pronounced “koo”. き(ki) is pronounced like the word “key”. All other kana follow that sort of pattern. た(ta) is “tah”. ら(ra) is “rah”. め(me) is “meh” and each one of these is nearly always pronounced this way no matter where they are in a word.
As for Nichijou itself, the show is a wild ride. The jokes and animation have no reason to go so hard but they do and it’s glorious.
The easiest way i explain japanese pronunciation to people is that japanese has the same vowel and consonant sounds as spanish

Nichijou, the artstyle is very simple, but somehow very extremely clean. Its a work of art and so visually pleasing.
Nichijou is... it sure is something. It's a hilarious comedy of mundane situations going completely unhinged, sometimes just in presentation, sometimes in what actually happens. No real plot to speak of, it's just silly stuff happening. One of the funniest things I've seen.
If you need an example, see the "God id dead", "Pencil stab", "Deer vs Principal", and "Daruma-otoshi" scenes.
“Nichijou” means everyday or ordinary life, so the second ending is showing that!

Nichijou is labed as one of the funniest anime out there, also it was made by one of the best anime studios, KyoAni (kyoto animations), if you watch any of the animes they made you know they make excellent quality.
I literally hurt my throath twice laughing at this anime, you should watch it.

Ni (as in the knights who say Ni!) -chi (as in cappuCHIno) -Joe (As in Joesef) intro song was made by an internet Legend known online as hyadain2525, but it was revealed later he was a massive composer for some top RPG's back in the day and wanted to try his hand at singing his own songs and he produced a bunch of fan songs you can still find on his youtube channel that I highly recommend, but he also tweaks his voice to sound like a feminine vocalist, so when you hear a woman singing here, that is still just him singing.
the second ending has dozens of versions that are all different songs because there's a new song each episode after it's introduced, they're really hard to find on RUclips for some reason.

Nichijou has some of the best animation I've ever seen and it's a comedic slice of life. It does not need to go so hard and i love it for it
Nichijou is a troll anime: A lot of happy moments, beautiful scenery and a relaxing frame in one moment, and then the most insane nonsense in the next scene. It's like Juju Strolls on steroids.

an amazing, wholesome and funny anime
If you watch this anime, I cannot possibly stress this enough: Watch the subbed version!!! The Japanese voice actors' delivery takes the comedy up to eleven. Not even just the way they talk, but the way they laugh and scream and so on. They try to emulate it in the English dub, but it just doesn't hit as hard.
Also, if you're still trying to figure out what Nichijou actually is, I describe it as the height of absurdist comedy.

Nichijou is so good! Definitely in my top 5 comedy anime. It's short too if you want to watch a comedy anime this would be a great start.
Slice of life is a sub-genre of anime that tells a key moment, or a series of moments in the life of the character, it can be comedy or very dramatic, and it can be fantasy like in this case, or very realistic like "a place further than the universe"

This is one of the funniest and most nonsensical anime I've ever watched in my life. Which surprisingly left a simple and beautiful message/lesson to carry with you for a lifetime (which I'm sure few people have paid attention to).
Edit: Tsubasa wo Kudasai (the ending 2) is one of the most beautiful songs in the world, which every human being should listen to and follow what is said in it.

Whenever you see an OU in Japanese, it's pronounced like a long O, as in "long".
Ending 2 is a version of a Japanese folk song called Tsubasa wo Kudasai. Evangelion also has its own version, and a lot of artists as well, such as Yui or Babymetal.
Omg can't believe you found this anime! Nichijou are so classic that most new gen anime fan (much less a new anime fan like you) never heard about! It's quite popular back when it was out most of my friends watch it. It was actually base on 4-coma manga (4-column short comic) and compiled into an episode. They also throw in some heart-warming moment too which are so cute and enjoyable to watch.
But, as good as it was, I'm not sure if you gonna enjoy it as much as we did. Reason is; most of the jokes require you to understand some Japanese word and culture, or else you just sitting there not knowing what happen.
P/s: SINCE YOU REACT TO NICHIJOU, PLEASE REACT TO MAHOROMATIC TOO~ It's another classic anime that I REALLY enjoy and never get to move on from the ending. The OP and ED was really good too. There's season 1, season 2 and OVA. Please give it a try 😘

Nichijou....Saiki Kusuo....Sket Dance....All of them are worth to watch...Wish many youtuber reacts to those series more
this is pretty much if we can make of an example what Gumball is but in anime.
Take every relatable daily strokes and stretch them into a massive chaos of plotless insanity separated into sketches.
Then you have like Lucky Star which is more natural and less chaotic, but still funny from their antics in their slice of life.
This anime is 100% recommended, is a weird "Monty Python" kind of style Anime. A guy who drives a goat like is a bike and he has a Butler? a talking cat? Girl Robot who wish to be a normal girl. Is really fun and if what a Said doesn't inspire you to watch it, believe me, there is nothing else in Disney to watch hehehe.
Ascendence of a Bookworm also has very good openings to react to!

If you liked this, might I recommend a very similar anime (also in the Slice of Life / Comedy genre) called "Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou"/"The Daily Lives of High School Boys". It has endured as one of my favorite comedy anime of all time, and even though many of the gags are tailored to the Japanese high school experience, I guarantee you'll find some gems in there that will remind you of your own high school days and have a "god damn, we were idiots back then" moment.
This anime is peak comedy with godly animation, really recommend this anime

Maybe others already mention, nichijou opening 1 have been parodied using other anime, one of it is attack on Titan.
Luke, Nichijou is weird fun but not dark in the slightest. If you wanna see some anime in the same style you may wanna check out the openings/endings to Tsuredure (Tsurezure) Children, Sabagebu or Seitokei Yakuindomo. They all share that fun style.
Nichijou is an anime for people who enjoy comedy and also like absurd things. From what I remember there were more endings than 2 hmmm. As for comedies, for me personally the top 3 anime comedies are School Rumble (love it), Seitokai no Ichizon and Gintama. To that I would add NouCome and Daily Lives of High School Boys (a similar production to Nichijou). Again, I remind you to catch up on endings from anime whose openings you've already seen like Ranking of Kings, Psycho Pass, Gintama, Golden Kamuy and more. And I still recommend the opening and ending from an anime called Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin.

as for endings there is several versions of ZZZ in different music styles, like bosanova, pop, and acapella, ending you watched as 2nd has multiple random songs like school graduation athem and so on
Nichijou in general is a gag comedy series build from short sketches roughly connected with each other over multiple episodes, and 2 main stories came together in around 13th episode and then you just so happy inside you can cry, unless you don't like the story or the humor then it is just meh
nano is a robot created by 6 years old genius who just needed to live with nany full time due to being a child, but she more human than robot and that is a gag by itself
