Hi Luke Falzon I’m from NewZealand and I never catch fish unless I go out on my poppas boat. But I can’t at the moment because my grandy is in hospital she is very sick.😢❤
Definitely should tie your rope around the trees where that major colour change is and can fan cast shallow diving lures. Best chance for a Barra in these conditions
hey luke mate, look the barra can live in freshwater but the mullet and herring they feed on need salt water, so when all this freshwater is flooding the creeks, the best option is to go out the mouth and taste the water to see if its salty enough for the baitfish to survive. Then find a spot where baitfish could be taking cover because, where theres bait, theres barra. Personally I caught two 80+ cm barra out the mouth of Machans Beach right along the rock wall during this time of the year when the water is all brown and fresh. The key is to follow the bait. Keep getting out there though and good luck. I watch all your videos and im loving seeing these local adventures.
Love the vids mate keep em coming, can't get enough. You will learn the systems as u fish the. Really enjoy watching u starting from scratch, takes me back to the good old days.
Luke don't Go into the creek just fish at the mouth of the creek just 11meter from the mangrove edge 👍✌️all ways use size4 hooks we use size 4hooks in the Kimberly here bro 🤔✌️👍
Ok where do I start, best place I saw you go was right where the water went from chocolate to black, fish that colour change, next when it rains as hard as it has been and blowing the water temp drops putting the barra down and off the bite, wait till it starts to clear up and we have a few hot days to bring the temp back up, you definitely want some live mullet if your going to chase barra with livies
There are some good spots in Cairns you can go to. There’s heaps of drains in the cairns township. Like chinamen and saltwater creek. I would fish these drains at night preferably on a full moon when the tide is going out. Use a zerek weed less prawn and slow roll retrieval. If it’s deeper than expected use a split shot sinker. Key is a constant slow speed but keeping the lure midwater. With Barra it’s all about presentation (with lures). And if you’re fishing weedless make sure you set the hook properly. When the Barra “doinks” the line you’ve got all of 1-2 secs to strike and set hooks. Most of the spots in Cairns at night especially later at night you will hear the Barra boofing in these spots. So go for a look and listen out. Out going tide is key. If that fails you can fish the pier at night in the lights and shadows using a weightless soft plastic for a surface strike on some big Barra. Good luck champ 👍🏾
for me, if u use mullet or live prawn, just use hook around size 1 or 1/0 or 2/0.. good enough to hook it.. hoping you got barra in the next video! i will pray for ur success mate!
@@lukefalzon A lit bit been trying to get back up in the dam on the kayak but got the boat out last week to. havent been fishing as much as i want but hahaha
Hey Luke, the fresh water sits on top of the salt water and livies dont like fresh water. Try to get your live bait water from a meter or so down or closer to the mouth of the river if possible.
I see you have a new cast net, Luke. You almost tore it up with another large Barra. At least you would have been able to take it home and eat. I don't think you are doing much wrong, you were fishing in the hardest of conditions so don't get too discouraged. Living the dream!
I didn’t realise how lucky I was till I started watching this video. You got me into fishing a couple months ago. Went 3 times and caught some brim, sweet lip and a few other fish but I didn’t even know any of the fish I caught ahaha. I was lucky enough to catch a Barra that was barely legal, so if I can do it man you can to. Keep you’re head up lad, only way you can see the lords blessings and guidance ❤
Love ya vids bro. Around cairns I mainly fish off the beach or beach mouths n rockwalls when its flooded. The rivers n creeks flush the bait out n they mainly congregate along the beach's. I've heard lately they've been catching barra off the esplanade area and towards the pier on high tide. It used to be good for prawns around the hospital area and anywhere on the esplanade when it floods n mate you've had more luck landbased with barra you got 2 cast netting n dropped 1 off beach.
